Perfect Hotel

Amazing hotel with perfect beach. Drinks touch pricey and prices don't include tax. definitely will come again. Rooms spacious but try to get sea view if possible

Great Resort

Great resort with good spacious grounds, great pools and a lovely atmosphere. Staff are great and we note the good service has got even better this year. The hotel is well up Battu Ferringi beach and a fair way to Gearge Town but it not a problem getting down there. Eating places locally are mixed. You are highly unlikely to find the best restaurants the locals would use unless you know the right person. There is a mix of others along the front and a cheap and slightly average food court just along from the hotel which is popular. We love this resort but again this year the bar food service let it down severely. We were both actually sick later on after eating the food and it used to be so good.

Great Hotel. Such a chuld friendly hotel. 3 lifeguardss on duty at poolside all the time. Staff are very friendly, helpful, knowledgable and there are enough of them. Very clean rooms. Wide and tasty selection at all buffet meals. Will be returning here for many years.

Overall everything was good, maybe the only criticism was we could hear the lift clanking from our room no 763. Our friends stayed in room 751 and they could hear the mosque early morning. Breakfast was busy a bit chaotic at times but the food was replenished, no bacon!!! Overall a nice hotel exactly what you would expect from shangri-la. I would stay there again.

If you are buying handbags off the stalls check the lining as often the linings are not the same brand as the bag

Great stay after business in the city

The hotel is everything it was advertised to be. We paid extra for an ocean view room on the 6th floor. The view from the balcony was nice- overlooking the swimming pools and the ocean just beyond the hotel grounds. The breakfast buffet was delicious- every food type one could imagine! We did not figure out the shower in the room- the hand held shower head attachment to the wall required one to practically stand on the tub drain to get under the shower water, and the water pressure was minimal. Also, there were no wash cloths in the bathroom; I should have asked housekeeping, but didn't take the time. Lotion was not part of the standard amenities, so I had to make a special request.

A very tired looking hotel

The first room we were given was room 645 and we were greeted by a large Asian cockroach. The second room we got was 655 and the bathroom floor was always flooded because the shower head sprayed water onto the edge of the tub and water just drip to the floor uncontroled.

Golden Sands Shangri-BLAH!

I refuse to believe that Golden Sands is a "Shangri-La" hotel. From check in to departure our stay was a disaster. Service is awful. The staff are disinterested, switched off and at times were very rude. I'm easy going but Shangri-la really ruined our vacation. When you pay US$250 to US$300 in Malaysia you expect something a little better than a luke-warm stale buffet full of recycled food from the hotel next door. Several staff members advised us not to eat the buffet as the buffet food is recycled and re-heated from the other Shangri-La Hotel next door. There is major construction going on in the pool area and the noise was bad along with the atmosphere created by the barriers and dust. The beach behind the hotel is badly polluted and the pool boys told us that we should not even walk in surf as it is "poison" and full of human waste from other hotels nearby. The sea water was very dirty, green and brown with serious algae bloom and very smelly. The 'beach mafia' pushing horse and atv rides along with paragliding and jet skis are very annoying. They constantly enter the hotel grounds and harass guests while the security staff just stand there and look on doing nothing. I would strongly recommend people not to visit this hotel. It is a terrible waste of money and a serious disappointment. I have written to Shangri-La's corporate managers to enquire about why Golden Sands is in such a mess. This hotel needs new management and they really need to train the staff better. They don't have a clue about hospitality. Even when we were leaving we saw a taxi driver having a major row with a couple of foreigners, cursing at them and making threats while the hotel staff and security just stood there and did nothing and didn't offer to help the hotel guests. It looked really bad and confirmed our decision to leave this hotel.
