The rooms are simple but clean
The rooms are simple but clean and well maintained although the hotel is not new. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet is adequate but not spectacular but overall, pricing of rooms with bf is very competitive. Location is remote if you want to try other restaurants but you can rent scooters for 40 M$ at the travel agency by the dock. Drawback is that you have to pay for Internet access at 16 M$ per hour or 32 per day.

No direct access to beach
I booked 2 rooms with this hotel for 5 people. First thing to note is that this hotel does NOT have direct beach access, although you can walk to Pantai Tengah and maybe if you are up for it, Pantai Cenang. We hired a car(at the hotel) and that made the difference as we had the freedom to explore the beaches around the island. The worst part I think was our arrival, granted there was only one person at the reception desk and I understand it can be stressful, but there was no greeting, no smile, not even a question, just a stare. After I had stated I had some room bookings the person still didn't respond, I had to ask what information was needed. After handing over the letter and passport, the receptionist stated I had booked one room...okay...not a smooth beginning.. finally after sorting all out the receptionist seemed to relax and smiles were more forthcoming albeit I initiated it. I may be harping on about it but I work in a customer service area and it annoys me greatly when service industry contact points lack basic training. Plus points about the hotel, amazing views of the Andaman Sea if you have a seaview room. We had the non-smoking floor on the 3rd (with no balconies)the rest seemed to be smoking floors(some with balconies), however there was another complex attached that could be different, so I'd check with the hotel. Next plus point the breakfast buffet had really good choice, from chicken rendang to olive ciabatta bread and emmental cheese, a fair range of western and asian cuisine. The rooms are a bit dated but seemed clean enough and the staff were friendly, the same receptionist who greeted was very helpful with getting us security boxes (no safes in the room) so maybe had on off day the day before. Don't we all!

All-Inclusive Package was good,
All-Inclusive Package was good, however staff didnt seem to understand or know it existed. Front office staff were quite unapproachable, and gave an incorrect room type to begin with. Otherwise, facilities were good, and awesome view from seaview rooms.

Better than expected resort hotel.
Better than expected resort hotel. We love love love the place so much that we plan to come back. I like the broadwalk by the sea. Enjoy feeding the fishes in the evening. Our rooms are facing the marina with magnificent view. Charming hotel with very polite hotel staff. Settee a bit worn out but wardrobes are good and clean. Toilet -clean. I guess, our rooms have been recently white-washed. Spotted small ants crawling but that's small matter. Food at Seagull, good. Didnt try other restaurants. Out to Pantai Cenang for makan if not eating in at Seagull. Thumbs Up.

We really enjoyed our stay and
We really enjoyed our stay and loved the spectacular sea view from our room. Since there are no restaurants and shops within walking distance apart from those within the hotel it is good to hire a car which is very inexpensive. We had wondered about staying in the town (Kuah) but are glad that we opted for Awana Porto Malai.

This hotel is a little bit old.
This hotel is a little bit old. The reason why we join that in the Chirstmas eve is that there is no compulsory gala dinner. I think there were too many people for the breakfast buffet and the buffet food is not enough.
