I planned a random last minute trip and found myself in Latvia. I did research on a number of hotels before my trip, and all signs pointed towards Grand Palace being the best one. As we drove through Riga, i started having thoughts like "What if
this place is nothing like I expect"... A few moments later, we pulled up to the hotel, and a great big smile came across my face.
From the moment we pulled up, someone came to open the door, and help with our bags. Upon arrival, our room was upgraded, and a free welcome drink was provided. The hotel is very nice and has a certain sense of style and class that most Western/American hotels lack.
The rooms were nice and very clean! I enjoyed the heated bathroom floor and free computer with internet in the room. The housekeeping staff was awesome, plus the chocolate and water turndown service was a nice touch.
The breakfast is very good, and the pet parrot is such a cool addition. I hardly ate though, as I was too busy admiring the dining room, statues, and art. I felt as if i was staying in a hotel that should have cost 5-6 times more per night!
The night before checking out, we asked the front desk if it was possible to have a cab for the airport waiting at 715. They said it wouldn't be a problem, but we had some hesitations. We were cutting it close in the morning, and had little room for error. As we raced downstairs, they wished us good morning, greeted us by name, and told us that the cab was waiting outside. Without hesitation, they took and loaded our bags, and wished us well.
Grand Palace made my trip to Latvia the best trip of my life. I have been all over the world, but never experienced this level of service and treatment as I did here. If you are traveling to Riga, you MUST stay at the Grand Palace. You will not regret it.
One final note. This hotel has the best location ever. There are many great places to eat around the hotel, as well as being within a 5 minute walk of various stores, as well as 7 minutes from the mall. There really is a lot to do in Riga, even in the middle of winter.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Short walk from hotel
There is a BIG shopping mall about 7 minutes walking from the hotel.
