average hotel for $$$

The hotel is in an excellent location, can't get a better than this one. However you are paying the price. For $250 a night (incl. breakfast) I expected a little bit more, especially from a 5 Star rated hotel. I was shocked to find out after an 8 hour hike in Petra that there is no massage facility in the hotel. The pool and gym are average size, again not what I expect to see from a 5 Star hotel. Previous reviews mentioned the rooms wouldn't cool down fast enough or cool down at all, I had the same issue. We were in a junior suite, there was enough space for two of us, and the rooms were clean. I was disappointed in the breakfast and dinner options. I felt that it was pricy for the quality and variety of food. The roof deck bar has a nice atmosphere and it's nice to have a cocktail, however I would have liked to have dinner but again the choices were very slim and price wise you're better off eating the dinner buffet, or eating elsewhere. We rented a car so valet parking was free which is nice. And finding the hotel was very easy, we followed signs to Petra, which lead us to the main gate of the hotel. Staff was very friendly no complaints at all. They really were attentive! All of them smiled, and very helpful if you had a question. All in all I would recommend this hotel purely for location and convenience, however I would tell people not to expect 5 star accommodation or amenities.

Great location

The hotel is not worth the price, but its great for the area. It was nice to have a large room and the restaurant choices in the hotel, and the location to Petra is excellent for getting to and from the site. We had a mountain view room with balcony, but didn't use the balcony at all except to gauge the temperature outside. The bathroom is just average, with only a half shower pain that is quite annoying. The free mini bar and water is a nice touch. The room service and restaurant surcharges are extortionate - 2 drinks in the hotel bar cost 20 JD, whereas they were just 14 JD on the menu.

grab a drink at the Cave Bar down the road rather than the smokey hotel bar.

Not what we expected

We booked this hotel as a splurge during our trip mainly because of its great location to Petra. That is definitely true, but we were disappointed with other aspects of the hotel. The air conditioning was not working during our stay so it was not a comfortable experience. We woke up drenched with sweat. We complained twice and nothing was ever done about it. I understand that these things happen, but with the amount we paid for the room I would have expected a better response from staff to at least try to do something. There was smoking allowed in the lobby which I hated. It reminded me of being in the 70s or something. The other problem was being able to find something to eat. They had lovely buffets with breakfast lunch and dinnner but because of the heat, my husband and I were not really interested in the buffet. We just wanted something light to eat and it was like we were the poor relatives coming to town. We would have loved to sit in the rooftop bar, have a drink and order an appetizer, but no that was only for buffet people. We then went downstairs and had to sit in the lobby where people could smoke. The service was not good and I did complain after I was told that my order wouldnt be out for 30 minutes. The response from senior members of staff was good but I wish I could have seen it in other aspects. The attitude of the front desk worker was also not good. When we expressed our dissappointment with our stay - he said - What do you want?? We didnt really know what to say and then he took our email address down and said his manager was going to contact us which of course never happened. We thought we were going to stay in a really nice hotel for one of the nights of our honeymoon and unfortunately were hugely dissappointed.

Spectacular location and service!

The Moevenpick Resort Petra was the highlight of out family trek to Petra. The location, at the entrance to Petra was a relief at the end of a long, hot day exploring Petra. The welcoming hibiscus tea was delightful and the service and staff was superb. This was absolutely the best choice for a visit to Petra and we didn't want to leave! The hotel was exquisite and the food bountiful and delicious. Complimentary mini bar in the rooms was a plus and the pool was needed after a long day of hiking.

Dining room is worth staying in for and ask the reception staff to show you how to make hibiscus tea; they will even go to town and get you the dried flowers to bring home. If you want to be at entrance to Petra site stay at Moevenpick Petra Resort; not Moevenpick Nabatean Castle; which is 10 minutes away.

Excellent, but toasty.

There's no better location than the Movenpick from which to embark on a hike through Petra. The staff were exceedingly nice and helpful with information, assistance, directions, and reservations. The breakfast and restaurant options were good, but the air conditioning was weak; nights might have been more comfortable with the windows open if the sliding glass door had a screen.

Great Hotel in a Great Location

You'll be so happy when you depart magnificent Petra that you chose the fab hotel at the entrance and not one fifteen minutes away. We walked directly to our rooms, drank the free sodas in the mini-bar, and ran to the very nice pool. The water in the pool was remarkably cold and refreshing. The breakfast bar is superb. [...] Friendly, helpful staff. Clean and modern hotel. And GREAT location.

Beautiful decor, convenient location

Gorgeous interiors, a stone's throw away from Petra's main site. Food, while plentiful, was pretty average. Got an amazing deal on rooms on [...], 1/3 the normal price!

Exceptional value

This hotel is ideally located near the entrance to The Siq. The people of Jordan are very courteous, and the hotel Moevenpick certainly cranked it up a knotch in service, fine dining, and ambiance. This was probably the best hotel value for money I have ever spent.

Beautiful Experience

The hotel looks fantastic on the inside- a sultan's fantasty- and has a great plus because it is just a short walk to the visitor center of Petra. After all the walking done in Petra it's great to be able to quickly get back to the hotel. The breakfast buffet is enormous and excellent. The staff is freindly and helpful.
