The fantastic Apollo Hotel in Jersey is graded 3 star by the AA and situated in the heart of St Helier. Built around its own quiet garden courtyard with a superb 45' outdoor pool, with a separate pool for the 35' (11m) water chute, as well as having it's own indoor pool and free car parking make this one the best equipped hotels in Jersey. The hotel's 85 bedrooms all include bathrooms and showers, TV's, telephones, tea and coffee trays, hairdryers and trouser press. To make sure your requirements can be met the Apollo has a choice of room type. There are family rooms, pool and garden view rooms and balcony rooms overlooking the garden and pool. The superb 45' (14m) outdoor heated swimming pool and 35' (11m) water chute ensures that holidaymakers at the Apollo have all the facilities for the most enjoyable and memorable holiday. After a mornings Island sightseeing or shopping (less than 5 minutes walk to St. Helier's main shopping street!) you can now relax in the sun trap garden by the pool on one of the loungers. The younger members of the family can experience the thrill of a new water chute, which has its own pool. Alternatively there is a large first floor terrace set away from the pool. The Apollo's comprehensive leisure centre incorporates indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, sun beds and gymnasium. After an invigorating swim or exercise session in the gym, you can enjoy a warm massage in the jacuzzi. The Manager and his staff, most of who have been with the hotel for many years, take pride in their reputation for friendly and personal service. You can be sure of an enthusiastic welcome and the courteous attention of efficient, long-standing staff members.

lovely holiday

The Apollo is like a Tardis, the facade is unassuming but the entrance lobby is open, cool and welcoming. The hotel desk staff were very pleasant, smartly dressed, knowledgeable and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of information leaflets were available on the desk and they printed out a daily schedule of activities throughout the Island. There is no entertainment at the hotel but there is a flat screen TV in the bedroom. Our bags were taken up to our room which was near a lift as requested. The room was spacious and clean with plenty of storage. Whilst the decor was a little dated the blackout curtains were amazing. I have restricted mobility and there is no disabled access in the hotel although there are few stairs to climb inside so I didn't find getting around a problem. We went half board which was terrific value. Breakfast was buffet style with a good selection of cooked breakfast, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, croissants and rolls so something for all the family. Tea, coffee and orange juice were plentiful and the staff very attentive without being overpowering. Three course set dinner was from 7pm-9pm nightly with a good choice of freshly prepared local produce. We had different delicious meals every night of our week there. We happened to be in Jersey when it was very hot and unfortunately there was no air conditioning in the restaurant. The ceiling fans weren't particularly effective but we had plenty of iced water with our meals. The Apollo has a lovely outdoor swimming pool with a chute and plenty of sun loungers available. Towels were available from the indoor pool and jacuzzi area. There is also a small gymnasium in the hotel. The cocktail bar was a bit pricey but there was access to the Boot and Ball pub which was cheaper and they did reasonably priced bar meals but it wasn't the nicest pub. There is also a little bistro within the leisure complex but it didn't open very often while we were there. There is a no smoking policy in the bedrooms and indoor public areas so it was a bit disappointing that smoking was permitted on tables near the pool that were directly underneath the dining room windows. We have holidayed in Jersey 3 times before and this was one of the best hotels we've stayed in. The location is great, 5 minutes walk to the main shopping precinct in St Helier. There are lots of small handy shops for snacks and drinks within walking distance. There are plenty of local buses to get you around the Island but there are plenty of organised bus trips to choose from that will collect you from and drop you back to the hotels at no extra cost. We recommend a round the Island tour and a visit to the Durrell Zoo on the vintage bus complete with astro turf on the floor and camouflage nets with fake flowers and bats hanging from the ceiling to get the kids excited for their visit. There are many beautiful bays to visit on Jersey but the biggest and best ice cream cornets are from La Fregate on the waterfront, delicious!! We love Jersey, especially the ice cream, and would highly recommend the Apollo as a comfortable, great value hotel to stay. We will be back!! Happy holidays. :-)

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Try the central indoor market for delicious freshly made sandwiches, all day breakfast, local produce and flowers. Buy your chilled bottled water in the pound shops, 3 for £1 rather than get fleeced at £1 each at the attractions for the same thing. Perfume and aftershaves are not always cheaper in the specialist discount stores on St Helier high street but there are good savings to be made at the airport as you leave.

Value for money

The hotel is located in a convenient area in St. Helen's. It's no too far from the City centre. We took bus 15 from the airport to the main bus stop (The Republica) and then its a 10 minute walk from there. The people in Jersey are very nice and helpful. The hotel staff were welcoming and helped us in finding our way in buses etc.. The hotel does say that they have free wifi but this is limited to the reception area mainly. Our stay was pleasant and didn't have any issues.

In need of refurbishment

The customer service was good and we found everyone to be friendly, but the hotel really needs modernising. It feels like nothing has been done to it in at least 30 years. The shower was just an attachment to the taps and came out cold, the bathroom tiles were cracked, bathroom door didn't shut properly, the room door lock seemed flimsy, we could hear the room next door snoring and on the last night they were having a blazing row, no WiFi in the rooms. Overall it really was not worth the around £90 a night I'd paid. Wouldn't stay here again.

great staff

The hotel worked very well for us as it was close to the shopping district and provided a good base for our explorations. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was good and the gym/swimming pool were very pleasant. the only complaint is that the bed was very hard, as were the pillows.

Well worth the visit

Only marked this down as we struggled to control the shower temperature. Other than that it was a perfect place to stay and would thoroughly recommend to any one else. We loved it.

A reasonable hotel

Reception staff were polite and friendly. Rooms were clean with a comfortable bed. The decoration is a little dated but don't let this put you off. We used the pool and jacuzzi and both were warm and clean. Leave all your valuables in your room when going to the pool as there are no locks on the locker doors. Breakfast was of an acceptable standard. My only minor complaint here is that the guy greeting and seating guests was more like a prison warder in his tone and manner rather than a worker in hospitality. A good location close to town and about 5 minutes walk from the bus station.

staff friendly and helpful, location very good-just a few minutes walk to main shopping area. Bedroom furniture and bathroom a bit dated, but was spotless, which is the main thing. Breakfast was very good. Lynda - Northern Ireland

There is a Jersey Pass - 2day pass £39. Check prices of places you would like to go to see if it is worthwhile for you. It was for us. I think the 4day pass is £49. Ferry trips £30 return.
