Yokohama What a Visit

I had an enjoyable business trip, the room was a little cozy, but if you like camping you'll like the room. Room was there for sleep anyway. There are a lot of things to do in town and the hotel is in a perfect place. I had an extended stay which got me the hotel every third night free. hotel worked great together to get me the best possible deal. Read below and get the train card at the train station.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Japan is expensive, but there are ways to save, like taking the train everywhere. Get a Suica Train Card for 500 yen, then put 2500 yen on it, this will take you to Tokyo for about 450 yen one way and then you can walk or take the train to other areas. Also this card is good for buying food and drinks anywhere they take the Suica Card. The hotel has two pillows one is regular and the one on your bed feels like cut plastic straws are in it. Strange at first but I did get a good night sleep with it, just different.

Excellent Hotel For Business Trip To Yokohama

This is an excellent hotel for a business trip to Yokohama. It is very near the trains. It is connected to a variety of restaurants, one of which is a Japanese restaurant at which I had the best sashimi ever! The staff are nice, rooms clean, hotel is clean. There is a convenience mart on the main floor that came in very handy. There was a small common area where there was smoking that pervaded a little area of the air on the main floor, but none other than that. I had also previously used this hotel to host a conference and that worked out just fine too. This hotel is very close to nice attractions. I would definitely stay here again.

Excellent variety of restaurants: several superb Japanese, viet namese, italian/pizza/pasta, bayside with dramatice views of the river and bay, TGI Friday's, Chinese, and more. A short walk across a bridge over a river is World Porters mall with plenty of great shopping and bakery and restaurants...also Bahn Golf which is awesome mini golf on the roof of World Porters.

I would have liked to be able

I would have liked to be able to pay a fee for early check in. Check in time was 2:00PM, Iwanted to pay a fee to check in at 12:00noon. I was ableto pay a feeto check out late at 2:00PM. It would have been niceto have room service.

Really small room. Good location/train

The hotel room was crazy small. I stayed at two other hotels in Japan and they were both much bigger. The staff was nice and spoke English fairly well. They don't give you do not disturb door hangers. The location is really close to many restaurants and the Sakuragicho train station. Bring a ethernet cable and don't expect the free internet access to be that reliable.

Try the basil dressing at the Subway sandwiches. They don't have that in the states and it is good.

Japanese Business Style Hotel

First -- Even the double-rooms are SMALL compared to Western hotels... (Don't think 2 people in a double room for 2 people).Second - While this is a "Business Hotel" - Breakfast may be over-run by school groups (2-3 days of ~10 that I stayed total).Third (WARNING) - If you plan to stay early-Spring or late-Fall at the Yokohama Sakuragicho Washington Hotel -- be forewarned, when the hotel decides it is warm enough - it turns off the heat for the year, and if it is cold after that just ask for a stack of blankets. Likewise if there is a warm day before the hotel switches from Heat-to-AC - sorry, there isn't an option (including opening a window) to cool the room down.Fourth - (CAUTION) - The front desk does not exchange Traveler's Checks. They don't have any currency exchange - but there is a US$-Dollar -to- JPY-Yen exchange machine in the lobby - but expect to pay between 10-15% surcharge (about YEN-10 per dollar) using the machine. Better bet is 2nd floor of Yokohama Bay Sheraton (outside restaurant) where there is a Citibank US$-Dollar Debit machine 0.5% exchange fee.[...] (Breakfast was additional YEN-1,500 (about $17.75)Yokohama Sakuragicho Washington Hotel's location is only 2 minutes from JR Sakuragicho Station (Bay side - look for "Clock Ferris Wheel") - turn right, go up escalator to 2nd floor entrance (past Starbucks) and take elevator to 5th floor Lobby. The reason for rating Staff low - was lack of English understanding - They spoke English, but couldn't always answer the questions I asked...

Dining tip: In Hotel

There are several restaurants in the 3rd & 4th floor of the hotel building, and a Starbucks coffee shop on 2nd floor. The best was probably TGI Friday's. There is also a pasta restaurant with very good small pizza - but their special pasta of the month wasn't that great. They both have good deserts. I only ate breakfast in Hotel's 5th floor restaurant (YEN-1,500), and at Jonathan's (about YEN-500) - a ~3-5 minute walk from hotel (away from Bay side).

Perfect location just next to

Perfect location just next to Sakuragicho JR station so easy access from Narita Airport using JR Narita Express. Rooms are small but have all facilities you need and ask for a harbour view to see the Landmark Tower and Big Wheel which have a dazzling light show at night. Highly recommended for a one/two night stay.

We have lived & traveled in Japan

We have lived & traveled in Japan for 3 years. During this time we have become accustomed to the great service that is typical at hotels throughout the country. Unfortunately, this was not the case at the Washington Hotel. We found the staff and manager to be overly rigid and unwilling to provide the standard level of Japanese service. Although conveniently located, the small room, poor service and lack of standard amenities do not justify the price.
