An elegant and affordable hotel
I was in Tokyo for my first time to do three days of sightseeing. This hotel met my needs. My room was a little small, but that is to be expected in the world's largest city in which space is at a premium. My room was nicely appointed. The room design and furnishings are aesthetically appealing, as is the stone and plant garden at the base of the atrium. The room fee includes a breakfast buffet that includes eggs, small meat servings, bread, rolls, soup, juice, and a few other things. The tv only had 12 channels, but I din't know how typical that is for Tokyo Hotels. The staff are friendly and helpful. They can assist you with your recreational activities, especially if they are in the immediate vicinity. The hotel has several racks of helpful tourist information. The general location within Tokyo is great, with all of Ueno Park's attractions about a mile away. Many people will approach this hotel from the Ueno Station, and it is about a 20-minute walk. It is not easy your first time out of the station to get oriented, although there is a helpful tourist information desk in the station. A taxi would probably have no trouble finding the hotel, and if you have the hotel name name in Japanese to show the driver, that is all the better. The Shinokachimachi metro station is just two blocks from the hotel, but you would have to change trains to get on this line and that could be a little daunting for a first time visitor. The immediate area around the hotel has several restaurants and convenience stores and is a pleasant neighborhood to walk around in. There is also a bicycle rental operation near the hotel (see the hotel's neighborhood map). You can rent a bicycle all day for less than $3--this is a real bargain in an expensive city. The bikes are easy to ride, have built in locks, and baskets. This hotel represents good value for the money, and I would definitely stay there again.

Location is great for staging point
Location is central enough and close to train lines to allow easy access to most of the places you will want to go while in Tokyo. The room is big enough for one person especially when only using it for sleep and preparing for the day. Beds are firm and clean, and room is new, well maintained, and comfortable. Staff are helpful and friendly.

Family with teens
2 adults and 2 teen, on vacation, in two economy twin rooms. Rooms were small as expected but very comfortable (comfortable beds, good shower, quiet). Breakfast was fine - added value and convenience. Location - few minutes to subway. Many restaurants close by, but real central area (like around Ueno station) is further off.

A little less than average, and far from public transportation
I booked this hotel as a last minute effort to find a place so I was mostly concerned with the price range. The room is average size for Japanese hotels (much smaller than western hotel rooms of the same price) The showers are decent size but the sink and the counter is tiny. They have very basic towel service (one body towel and one face towel). I don' t think they wash their bed linens every stay either. The staff speaks very very basic english in the evening. There is breakfast included in your stay, but it's just a simple assortment some basic breads, some little sausages, salad (don't ask me why), hard boiled eggs (no other way), white rice, coffee, milk, orange juice and tea. It's a far walk from the JR railway station (maybe 10-15min) and a short walk from a metro line. I only stayed here because of my urgent need, I wouldn't go back.

We found this hotel to meet or
We found this hotel to meet or exceed our expectations. It is located near the JR Yamanote line, and within walking distance from the Ueno station. All in all was very pleased with the price and the level of services which included a breakfast buffet. We would highly recommend this hotel to our family and friends. If you don't mind a very firm bed, this is a great hotel.

For the best priced hotel in tokyo,
For the best priced hotel in tokyo, I will be back! The rooms and free breakfast arent much but for the price there isnt any better. The hotel reception went out of their way to help me, they even helped me translate a letter into japanese. Ueno can seem quite far away from tokyo central but it only takes 15 minutes on the subway to most places.
