Dining

Grill & Bar Lieu
The Grill & Bar Lieu takes its name from the French word for "place", which - in a linguistic coincidence that resonates with the sound of the stream in the hotel's inner courtyard - is phonetically identical to the Japanese word for "flow". With an impressive wine cellar and a wide selection light, healthful, Provenal-style dishes made from seasonal vegetables, prime-cut meats and poultry, and fresh-caught seafood, it offers a dining experience that is sure to delight.
Japanese Restaurant Yukuri
Located across the garden courtyard from the hotel's main building, Yukuri takes its name from an ancient Japanese word that means "to achieve rapport." Here you can experience authentic kaiseki cuisine in a setting that is at once modern and traditionally Japanese. Whether you enjoy your meal with a sweeping view of the garden courtyard, or in the intimacy of Yukuri's private dining room, it will be a culinary experience you are sure to treasure.

Great value, good location

This is a nice standard hotel for < £100/night right in the heat of Tokyo. It's a mere 3 minute walk from a train station and about 5 minutes from a metro station. Rooms are fairly small (to be expected at this price range in the centre of Tokyo!) but very clean and quiet. Staff were very helpful and spoke good English. They assisted in making restaurant reservations and booking taxis. Would definitely recommend it.

If you have a JRPass then the nearest station to the hotel is covered by it. In fact, we travelled around Tokyo for 3 days on our JR Pass using only the train service, and just once had to buy a single metro ticket. The train service is very efficient and can get you to most of the main attractions in Tokyo.

Great location, clean, friendly

Hotel Niwa's rooms are comfortable and clean. While the Standard rooms are smaller than most Western sized rooms, my husband and I were not uncomfortable. We also rented a Superior room for the last leg of our trip (because no Standard rooms were available), which was more expensive and larger, but not really necessary. The breakfast buffet included an enormous selection of both Japanese and Western fare, though somewhat pricey at 2300 yen/person. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, and most spoke English well. The location was convenient to get to the subway (Mita line). Would definitely recommend it to friends and stay there again.

If you're traveling from somewhere that's not a "cash society," keep in mind that Japan is and remember to bring lots of cash (either in yen or your own currency to exchange there). We spent a large portion of our first day in Tokyo trying to find an ATM that would accept our U.S. debit cards to take out cash after realizing that my husband's credit card did not work.

Choose this BARGAIN in Tokyo

This 3* beautifully designed hotel knocks the spots off many 4* ones I have stayed in. In a quiet neighbourhood, less that an mile from the East Gradens of the Imperial Palace. Staff unfailingly polite and as helpful as they can be. Decent sized room (18sq m) with the MOST comfortable but smallish double bed. Sweet little smoking garden on the 3rd floor and a big spacious airy lobby. Free massage chairs too on 3rd floor which are perfect after a day's hard sightseeing. Free and efficient wifi on every floor and a hard wired ethernet in your room as well. Freshly laundered pyjamas every day and a huge range of toiletries and sundries. Breakfast is good but expensive though, so eat out!

Highly Recommended

I spent 5 nights at Niwa and was very pleased with the hotel. Very friendly staff and they all speak English quite well. The room was small but very comfortable and clean. My only disappointment was the Japanese restaurant. I had dinner there one night and found the price too high for the quantity and quality of food. If you are visiting one of the universities in the area, it is a very convenient location. My room was very quiet. It is nice to have free WiFi.

Lovely and comfortable

Niwa Hotel was in the middle of the city, so it made traveling a breeze. It was a little difficult to find from the map provided, but it was lovely once we found it. The bed was super comfortable and the large tub was quite relaxing. The staff was polite and knowledgeable.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

The easiest way to get to the hotel is to go out of Suidobashi Station and turn right. You will be walking in the opposite direction of the Dome City. Keep walking until you see the 24hour Yoshinoya on the corner, about 2 1/2 blocks from the station. Turn left, crossing the street, and go straight until you see Hotel Niwa on your left.

Fulfill my Tokyo vacation by staying here

Prior to my arrival I was written to the hotel asking for non-smoking floor and high floor. I was arrived on Wednesday 5 Dec 12 afternoon and found the check-in process was very efficient, they have provided what I have requested. Staffs are speaking good English.. Room was very comfortable and very decorated with care in every single detail. You will have a pyjamas that the hotel changes daily for you. Next to the hotel is the convenience store where you can get some good snacks, soft drinks, and ice creams whenever you want. After a short walk (turn your back on the hotel, walk left 50m, and turn left again then walk another 100m, then cross the road) you will reach JR Suidobashi station where you can easily reach Shinjuku, Akiba (Akihabara), or Tokyo station within 15 minutes including any transit if required. Just across the station located McDonald's (24/7) and Staarbucks (open until 10.30pm), Tokyo Dome, and Suidobashi subway station. This is an ideal place to stay for. I have been staying for five nights, and surely I will return to this hotel for my next visit.

Go to the hotel's gym room and utilize the massage chairs after your long walk during the day. It was very very relaxing. The gym room was closed at 10pm but actually you can stay a little longer.

Hotel Niwa, Tokyo. October, 2012

Great location. My standard room was fine. Not much of a gym facility, probably not worth the space used for it. Daily maid cleaning was good. I was there for 10 nights on business. Easy location for business associates to meet. Restaurant was good - upscale Japanese. The hotel is generally quiet and subdued. Some frontdesk staff are a little too reserved and unresponsive - sometimes a little too much cold Japanese stare and not enough smile. Will return.

This hotel is in the bookselling district of Tokyo. Miles and miles of booksellers (used and new, the vast majority in Japanese) in the immediate vicinity.

Tokyo Stay

Good hotel, clean, nice staff and reliable. Would be nice to have breakfast in the hotel however it is super expensive. Close to train station, safe area, 7 eleven near b for money exchange and choco-ru for morning breakfast. No complaints, good experience. Rooms are pretty small but I guess that is standard in japan. Dont bring huge luggages because there isnt a place to put them.

Fantastic Place

The Hotel is located just 5 minutes walk from Suidobashi JR Station, East Exit. I went with my girlfriend and we enjoyed our stay at the Hotel. Peaceful and silent, warm staff, always ready to help. Just by the hotel you have a small market. Cleanliness all around, beautiful rooms, but a little bit "compact" for the european standards, anyway, no matter about that at the standard room. Complimentary water at the refrigerator and plenty of ammenities at the bathroom. THe Hotel also hosts a relax room and gym. Everything ran perfect with the staff. The Hotel entrance is realxing, with a small urban garden and a Zen style waterrun. The Hall always smell like an Spa, really charming. The location of the hotel is really nice, at Chiyoda City, where you can find plenty of coffee shops and local izakayas and noodle restaurants. As i wrote before, close to the JR station called Suidobashi, only 2 stops from Akihabara, where you can take the Yamanote line, or other metro lines as the Ginza one..... I won´t doubt to go back again when i return to Tokyo. Niwa is perfect for a couple doing some tourism at the city. Hihgly recommended.

Just 2 minutes from the Hotel, at the big avenue leading to the JR Station, you can find some small restaurants where you can have a nice lunch time.
