This was a very extravagant looking hotel. I was very awe struck upon entering this place. The view from our room was great. ... Besides that, everything was down hill. The sheets had stains all over them and I was thinking this is what you get from a 5 star hotel? Also, you pay so much to spend the night there, you'd expect to get internet service for free, but not the case here. we had to pay 13 bucks or so for internet per night.

Japanese Superfun Hotel Stay

Brian-Paco May 26, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay at Hotel New Otani. The garden is a wonderful sight. Our hotel view displayed the city ... skyline beautifully. The mornings were relaxing as we planned our days to tackle the Tokyo town. Although the restaurants in New Otani are expensive, the quality is there. We went back to the breakfast buffet several times as the view of the garden was wonderful to wake up to in the Japan mornings. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is good. Once you conquer the Tokyo subway (and Toei lines) then you can easily find a safe passage back to the hotel.

Great place to get away

Japanfly May 26, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

Great place to get away, for an older person..... The Hotel "New Otani" is one of Tokyo's premier business hotels, that ... means the service is excellent, it is immaculately cleaned, with probably some of the best facilities in Tokyo, but it is geared towards the business class person. Being in my 20's I wanted something a bit more upbeat. The location is great, it is right next to Akasaka station which can connect you to anywhere in Tokyo. Just get a Passmo card with about 3000yen on it and your good to go. I traveled all over Tokyo using the card for 5 days Shibuya, Shinjuku.... ect. The rooms were great, the size of the room was comparable with a suite at a holiday inn. I recommend you walk in the Hotel garden while there, the coy fish are huge. Tokyo Tower is about a 3000yen taxi ride from the hotel. Heneda airport is about a 7000yen taxi ride away. The Hotel has a Shuttle service to Narita. The hotel Otani was an excellent place, with good location and excellent facilities.

Great business / executive hotel. Frequented by heads of state, senior executives. Good selection of restaurants, fantastic ... teppanyaki steakhouse in the gardens; however in the basement there is a great yakitori restaurant at an attractive price. Recreation/Attractions tip, In Hotel

Check out the garden and the cherry trees, either in spring or during the summer. Nice for a relaxing walk after a long day.

Money savers tip, Short Walk

JR line 7 minute walk away and if you have the JR Pass primarily for Shinkansen travel throughout the country you can utilize the JR Line throughout Metro Tokyo as well.

--Don, NYC Oct 15, 2009

Time savers tip, In Hotel

Airport bus which we didn't use but probably will next time.

--grizzled SF piano man, San Francisco, CA Sep 29, 2009

Money savers tip

don't buy cigarettes in the states for your stay. they are very inexpensive there.

--The English Teacher's Mom, Green Cove Springs, Florida Aug 18, 2009

Dining tip, In Hotel

Bring plenty of money.

--JP, Mill Valley, CA Aug 7, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

Star bucks a few blocks away which was priced more reasonable that breakfast in the hotel

--traveler, Sierra Vista AZ Aug 3, 2009

Dining tip, In Hotel

Very expensive, however a short walk will get you to a variety of options.

--Surf Daddy, Orcas Island, WA. Jul 28, 2009

Dining tip, In Hotel

Eating within the restaurante is pretty pricey and I don't think the food is that good at all. I'd rather eat elsewhere.

--CT, Boston, MA Jul 27, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

Just across the back side of the Hotel, you will find lots of good dining selections

--Sonny, McAllen, TX Jul 1, 2009

Time savers tip

Use the train system! It's so easy, fast and inexpensive.

--The Crane, Chihuahua, Mexico May 31, 2009

Money savers tip, Short Walk

There is a small market near the hotel just past the subway entrances.

--Brian-Paco, Marshall, MN May 26, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Walk

Ask staff to give you directions to th subway, it's really close by. We travelled with our infant son all over Tokyo no problem. The Tokyo subway map the concierge gave us was our Tokyo guide.

--Sandra, San Antonio, TX May 26, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

Walk over the bridge past the subway entrance and yo will find several streets full of resturants and drinking establishments.

--Research Team, Honolulu May 26, 2009

Shopping tip, Short Walk

The only reason I am giving this hotel a 4 on location is because you have to travel about 30min to get to the party district.

--Japanfly, Okinawa, JP May 26, 2009

--Samurai traveller, san mateo, ca May 15, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

walk into town.. go under the expressway and you'll have 100's of food places.

--HoustonGuy, Houston,TX May 11, 2009

Dining tip, Short Walk

Rather than rely on the hotel restaurant facilities, walk a short clip towards and slightly beyond the Asasaka-Mitsuke subway for much more affordable dining options. In terms of dining options (aside from the "Cafe Lounge") the restaurants are "tourist traps"... too expensive for not enough value.

--JCH, South China (but USA citizen) May 8, 2009

Dining tip, In Hotel

Try the restaurant located in these centuries old gardens and enjoy viewing the lovely waterfall, koi ponds, and gardens with evening lighting.

--Nini, southern California Apr 22, 2009

Dining tip, In Hotel

There are several nice dining options in the hotel. Don't forget to check the basement selections. They are not cheap, however, but certainly first class. If you speak Japanese, that is a definite plus.
