Great views, but a bit dated.
The views are great from the Garden Tower and the garden itself is great. But the amenities feel quite 70s and it is a stuffy place. All in all nice, but dated.

A Peaceful Retreat in Bustling Tokyo
After a full day of meetings, shopping and sight seeing and the ceaseless hustle and bustle of a major metropolitan area like Tokyo, the Hotel New Otani is a soothing, relaxing and stress-reducing island of calm. The staff are welcoming and eager to assist and make every guest feel like a highly honored visitor. The rooms are spacious by Japanese standards, quiet and comfortable and the responsiveness of the housekeeping and room service staff is without compare. Ideally located on the Marunouchi and Ginza subway lines, access to the entire metro area and all major long distance destinations via Tokyo's extensive, clean and efficient transportation network, makes the Hotel New Otani a wonderful place to call home when you're in Tokyo!

In the Heart of Tokyo
I have now been a regular customer of the New Otani in Tokyo, staying there at least twice a year. I choose it primarily for it's location, but also for the value. I've never had a problem at this hotel. The staff are extremely courteous and helpful, the rooms clean and practical, and the amenities first-class. In fact there are only two very small negatives I can think of - the work-out room is not very good and the hotel is very sprawling - almost like a small village. But those are very minor issues. On the positive side the very old Japanese garden on the grounds is not to be missed. In addition, the hotel has a wide variety of restaurants for every taste and price range. I stay at many hotels all over the world yet the New Otani is one of the few that feels like home.

Nightlife tip:
Short walk from hotel
The main Akasaka area is just a 5-7 minute walk from the hotel and features a wide variety of restaurants, nightlife, and shopping. Shibuya is just a few stops away on the subway. 3 different subway lines are within 5 minutes walk from the hotel. So, easy to get anywhere in Tokyo on their highly efficient metro system.

The only negative we found was that all the restaurants were so expensive. We never actually managed to eat in the hotel at all, and we would have liked to. Even one or tw medium priced restaurants would have been good, especially for breakfast.

Good Value in Tokyo
I stay here mainly for the grounds which feature a magnificent Japanese garden complete with ponds and a tea house. In the morning you can sit up in cafe that sits on the walkway between the two towers of the hotel and gaze out at the gardens below. What a way to start the day! The additional bonus is the great value offered by the hotel. Hotels in Tokyo can be very pricey and this one is good value for the money. The service is competent and professional. Each time I come here I look forward to seeing the giant floral arrangement that is at the main entrance - it is usually magnificent. Not sure how often this is changed but it's always a highlight in addition to the gardens. For this reason I rank the hotel very high on amenities. Hope this doesn't mislead some to think they have things like a great gym or 500 TV channels - they don't. Basically the premises has many restaurant choices, an art gallery and many small shops. The hotel is contiguous to subways and a big park. While it is a big hotel, overall, you can't really go wrong here. A good choice for both business and tourism.

Tokyo
For the price it was ok, but they charged for internet, the beds were hard and there didn't seem to be a public bath. For a 5 star hotel I really expected more. I'd much rather stay at a Dormi Inn than this place.
