Best location for exploring the city

We have travelled many times to Tokyo and have hit all the major spots by shuttling around on the train and metro. On this trip we found ourselves in a neighborhood very conducive to walking to Roppongi, Aoyama, Shinjuku and the Imperial Palace grounds but also convenient to 5 different subway lines when we needed to get somewhere quickly. The garden setting of the hotel makes it a pleasant oasis in the hustle bustle of the city. The one amenity I really miss though is an onsen bath like many simple non-5 star hotels have in Japan.

For runners - go out the garden tower entrance to the loop around the Imperial Palace or out of the main building entrance to access the path around the Akasaka Estate and through the Olympic stadium area.

Outstanding!

This was an outstanding experience! We had breakfast on the 40th floor of the Garden Tower, enjoyed the 450-year old Zen gardens and shopped at the exclusive boutiques. Great hotel!

Great views, but a bit dated.

The views are great from the Garden Tower and the garden itself is great. But the amenities feel quite 70s and it is a stuffy place. All in all nice, but dated.

A Peaceful Retreat in Bustling Tokyo

After a full day of meetings, shopping and sight seeing and the ceaseless hustle and bustle of a major metropolitan area like Tokyo, the Hotel New Otani is a soothing, relaxing and stress-reducing island of calm. The staff are welcoming and eager to assist and make every guest feel like a highly honored visitor. The rooms are spacious by Japanese standards, quiet and comfortable and the responsiveness of the housekeeping and room service staff is without compare. Ideally located on the Marunouchi and Ginza subway lines, access to the entire metro area and all major long distance destinations via Tokyo's extensive, clean and efficient transportation network, makes the Hotel New Otani a wonderful place to call home when you're in Tokyo!

In the Heart of Tokyo

I have now been a regular customer of the New Otani in Tokyo, staying there at least twice a year. I choose it primarily for it's location, but also for the value. I've never had a problem at this hotel. The staff are extremely courteous and helpful, the rooms clean and practical, and the amenities first-class. In fact there are only two very small negatives I can think of - the work-out room is not very good and the hotel is very sprawling - almost like a small village. But those are very minor issues. On the positive side the very old Japanese garden on the grounds is not to be missed. In addition, the hotel has a wide variety of restaurants for every taste and price range. I stay at many hotels all over the world yet the New Otani is one of the few that feels like home.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

The main Akasaka area is just a 5-7 minute walk from the hotel and features a wide variety of restaurants, nightlife, and shopping. Shibuya is just a few stops away on the subway. 3 different subway lines are within 5 minutes walk from the hotel. So, easy to get anywhere in Tokyo on their highly efficient metro system.

Pricing

The only negative we found was that all the restaurants were so expensive. We never actually managed to eat in the hotel at all, and we would have liked to. Even one or tw medium priced restaurants would have been good, especially for breakfast.
