Excellent location, fantastic city view
AL Oct 30, 2009
We got a room on the 23rd floor, the view was fantastic. Imagine you stand in front of the window overlooking Tokyo city ... lights, super. The room was small. We had a double bed with one side close to the wall, the one slept on this side had to crawl into it. Location is great. Restaurants, shopping centre, supermarket, subway station are all closed by. Hotel staff are very polite and helpful.

Not all is free, but what is, is great
Yams Aug 31, 2009
Service at the hotel was great. The shower was large and accommodating with good water pressure and individual flow controls ... for the shower head and the bath. Bed was very comfortable and a good quality TV was provided. Internet was complimentary, and a long ethernet cable was provided as there was no wifi. Upper floors provided an excellent view of the city. However, pool/fitness center use cost around $25 per day, there were extra charges for local calls from the hotel room with no indication of the charge, and the floors appeared to never be vacuumed and quickly accumulated dust and lint. Light yukatas were provided as sleepwear, although they are meant for smaller body types and did not fit me. I did not look into getting a larger size, but it may be a possible option. The location was directly next to the main Ikebukuro station and there was a great deal of shopping in the neighboring area. In hotel restaurants were greatly overpriced and did not provide particularly exceptional food.

Be sure to check how late the subways run as they are not 24 hours and typically stop running around 1 in the morning.

Great location and service
Mama Llama Aug 21, 2009
Location is perfect for both Metro (subway) and the JR train that services the metropolitan area and more long range ... journeys. Staff was very accomodating. NOTE: This is not a non-smoking hotel, although some parts are. Queen Superior rooms were small, but next category higher with King bed was spacious and well appointed.

Hotel Metropolitan is a great choice for budget minded travelers. Located in Ikebukuro, it is very close to the Ikebukuro ... subway station and lots of dining and shopping options. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Ovest on the 25th floor is worth visiting for a drink and a sprawling Tokyo view. The guest room was very small and frills free, but it was clean and up to date.

Excellent Location!!
Carolyn May 3, 2009
I can't emphasize strongly enough how great the location of this hotel is!! It is just a couple of minutes to Ikebukuro ... station - a major hub for trains and subways. Right outside the hotel are numerous restaurants and two convenience stores. At Ikebukuro station there 2 huge Department stores, and within walking distance is the Sunshine City shopping area. This was my second trip to Japan. The first time I stayed in Tokyo just 2 days - this time was for 2 weeks so we could spend more time exploring the different areas of Tokyo: Akihabara, Asakusa, Harajuku, Ueno - etc. My first trip I stayed at the Tokyo Hilton in Shinjuku - and I thought that location was great - but this one was far superior, especially if you are planning on using the hotel as a base for doing some exploring of the city. Rooms with one double bed are compact, but comfortable. My daughter and I stayed in a room with two double beds, and it was what I consider to be a good size. We were on the 23rd floor, and on two clear days had the most amazing view of Mount Fuji!! Staff at the hotel were great - and helped us book day trips, and gave us directions etc. Reviews of the hotel that I read prior to going weren't glowing enough, as far as I'm concerned. I would love to return to the Metropolitan, and highly recommend it.

Check out the basement floors of the Department Stores for every kind of food imaginable. You can get baked goods, prepared foods, fruits and vegetables - if you can eat it, it can be found there. We usually ate out for one meal, and for other meals picked stuff either at the Department Stores or convenience stores. The selection and quality is unbelievable.
