Great location, but disappointed

The Daiichi Hotel is wonderfully located dead in the heart of Tokyo, and almost next to Shimbashi Station. However, when I arrived to check in, despite the fact that I had confirmed a Non-Smoking Room, they tried to put me in a Smoking Room without telling me. After looking at three rooms, I finally accepted to stay in a "Smoking Room" that still had a firm hint of smoke in it. They told me all of the Non-Smoking rooms were already committed, and their internet confirmation was "only a commitment that they would try", but not a guarantee. When I sent to breakfast the next morning, I was surprised to get a bill for US$40 for fruit bowl, yogurt and coffee. The quality is good, but these prices that I would expect that the Imperial or Peninsula. Having previously lived in Tokyo, I expect to pay high prices, but this was crazy. The real saving grace was the location and the staff was excellent.

Entertainment tip: Short drive from hotel

Best Karaoke in Tokyo is at Fiesta Karaoke in Roppongi. Over 11,000 English songs, very foreigner friendly, busy every night. JPY 3500 per person, which also gives you 3 drinks and all of the singing you can imagine. Ask for Shin.
