Located in the center of Kyoto, the Ryokan Hirashin offers guests a chance to explore traditional Japanese accommodations with modern touches. Done in traditional "ryokan" style, the property features tatami-floored rooms, traditional Japanese robes and a feeling of tranquility and scale often lost in larger properties. Still, Ryokan Hirashin features important modern aspects, including free Internet access in the lobby, public baths and a banquet hall. The location is also ideal for exploring the numerous shops, restaurants and museums in the area.Highlights
- Traditional Japanese accommodations
- In-room dinner service (fees apply)
- Public bath
- Banquet hall for large meetings

All rooms have televisions, refrigerators and air conditioning. Bathrooms are en suite and feature shower/tub combinations. Slippers and yukatas (bathrobes) are provided, and some yukatas may be purchased in order to stroll around the city in a truly traditional manner.Features

Very friendly service. The ryokan
Very friendly service. The ryokan looks a bit tired though and could do with some TLC. No internet connection in the rooms but there are several PCs in the lobby that can be used by guests free of charge.

A nice place to stay for that
A nice place to stay for that extra Japanese feel. But if futon mattresses on tatami floor mats are not your thing, then best not to go. The service was great, they really want to make you feel welcome. Located down a small street off the main road so you can escape the hustle and bustle, but 5 mins walk gets you right into the thick of the action.

It is located a short walk to
It is located a short walk to the interesting Nishiki Market. Two convenient shops are also around the corners. Bus stops are found at nearby Sijo, which is the main street of kyoto. A day bus ticket is recommended for unlimited rides, taking you to most of the tourist sites within the city. We recommend this Ryokan. But one must be reminded that this is not a traditional Ryokan, rather it is a city ryokan. Still worth experiencing.

The location is excellent. However the rooms are not clean at all, lots of spots (big ones) in the carpet and walls. Bad smell in the room. The staff is friendly but useless due to almost zero english (my favourite one was when the receptionist spent 5 minutes looking for the word"tourist" in the dictionary when I asked for the tourist information office).Absolutely not worth the price.

If you want the experience of
If you want the experience of a Ryokan at a budget price, this is a great place to stay. Just a few streets away from the main road, a close walk to the Nishiki Markets and a short bus ride to Gion. Only 2 stops on the subway from Kyoto station. Probably need 2 or more Futons to be comfortable if your a westener, but they are readily available in the room if you require them. Overall, a great Japanese experience.
