Comfortable Kyoto hotel
The breakfast buffet was fantastic, the selections varied. There were western and Japanese offerings. Salad greens with optional add-ins, breads, scrambled eggs, hash browns, plain yogurt, fresh fruit, corn flakes, brown rice flakes (yum!), udon, rice porridge, miso soup, cold tofu, salmon or mackerel, tofu dumplings, natto, rice, juices, coffee, tea, milk, and numerous other items were available. Guests may help themselves to as much as they cared to eat. No carry-outs, though. The hotel will send your bags on to your next destination for a charge of about $20. Take your bags to the front desk the day before (check on time) and your bags will be at your next stop by noon the next day. Free LAN connection in rooms. 2 PC's for guests to use in the lobby. (Don't know about wi-fi.) Room was a bit cramped for 2 people, but workable. We had a double with 2 beds, which were bigger than a US twin-size bed and smaller than a US full-size bed. Subway station a few blocks away on Shijo-dori.

Short walk from hotel
Eating in Japanese restaurants can be expensive and for westerners, daunting. For an economical and easy option, try the Fresco grocery store, located a short block away from the hotel, on Shijo-dori. It has with a nice selection of sushi, tempura, vegetable sides, and bento boxes, and grocery items, fresh fruit and vegetables, sweets, beverages.
