The outlet of a major national chain is a beautiful Japanese-style hotel with a brilliant touch. Its excellence in mixing contemporary and traditional taste in design is highly appreciated and brought two related awards (Kyoto Scenic Beauty Award, Building Contractors Society Award Japan) to the hotel. The hotel is suitable for travellers who would like to enjoy traditional Japanese ambience inside and outside their accommodation, yet with modern facilities within reach. (0310YY) The hotel is a brown modern-looking building. It looks small from the outside, but it is actually quite spacious. Due to laws for scenic reserve in the old town, buildings cannot be over a certain height, so the hotel built two floors underground to make for more rooms above the ground level. The hotel, a winner of the Kyoto Scenic Beauty Award, is located in the city centre of Kyoto, just behind Nishi-Honganji temple. It is 5 minutes by car or 10 minutes by bus from Kyoto station. All major tourist attractions of Kyoto are easily accessible by foot or by public transportation. The nearest metro station, Gojo, is less than 10 minutes' walking distance. It is 15 minutes walk to Shijo-Omiya station which trains bound for Arashiyama depart from. A stroll around the hotel can take you back to a bygone era, as there are some traditional style buildings in the area. The shuttle bus service is available between JR Kyoto Station (Hachijo-guchi exit) and the hotel from April 01,10.

The hotel boasts some of the most spacious rooms in the city. The color scheme of creamy white and brown wood tones creates comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Although all facilities are modern, following a recent renovation, colors and pattern of fabric, grid of windows, sliding sunshade door and lighting evoke an ancient Japanese interior. All amenities expected for a 4-star hotel are provided. The bathrooms are clean and kept in good condition.

There are three restaurants available in the hotel. The main dining room is open throughout a day and provides a buffet breakfast, along with French and Japanese meals for lunch and dinner. There is a small bar counter and lounge in the restaurant. The restaurant occupies large space in the shape of "L" or two big rooms bordering at a right angle surrounding the courtyard where dinners are able to find artificial waterfall and bamboo trees. The buffet breakfast includes Japanese local dishes and local specialties as well as typical Western style breakfast such as bread, scrambled egg. The Japanese restaurant is a branch of an established restaurant chain that has almost 80 years of history and is known for local traditional cuisine of Kyoto. Solid

As expected. Pretty standard for Japan.. Rooms small and not very new feeling, but decent, clean, and nice overall atmosphere. Very satisfied.

Few days in Kyoto

Positive: free shuttle from JR station, free Internet, interesting little pond between lobby and restaurant, stuff speaking enough English. Improvement needed: standard double room is extremely small. We stayed at some other just as small places, but they did not feel that way due to better furniture position in the room. Total cost at check out was way off from original price. Make sure taxes and other fees are included upfront. Hotel is pretty far from sites, need to use bus all the time.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

Buy daily bus card at the hotel front desk for ¥500. Each ride is normally ¥220, so making 3 rides will already pay off. Don't have breakfast at the hotel - too expensive. We ate at Starbucks in the morning, coffee with granola and yogurt, scones. Instead have nice dinner somewhere in Gion.
