Location
Nijo Castle, which is steps away from the Kokusai, was built in 1603 as the headquarters for Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa. For the duration of his reign, the castle was the site of many important historical events. The vast grounds of the castle have been designated as a national landmark, where visitors and learn and explore the history of ancient Japan. Today, the castle is used for cultural events and it is home to vast gardens of cherry trees and other fauna native to the area.
