This hotel was expensive by our standards but the facilities were very good. Location is 20 minutes by bus from the central station area but it is on the bay and overlooks Sakurajima the volcano and is next to the island ferry terminal.

Short drive from hotel
Make sure you get your data roaming working before you arrive so you can use a GPS app with Google Maps. I had lots of trouble getting around until I got the GPS working. Then it was a breeze - no lauguage barrier issues blocked my progress.

The room was the largest one we stayed at in 3 weeks in japan. It had a view of Sakurajima island and the waterfront. we watched volcano spewing smoke every morning. Hotel could have been more central to the shopping and attractions but the view we had compensated for that shortfall.

Short drive from hotel
Take the No. 16 bus which you catch just north of the hotel. Take this to the Izuro dori stop. From here it is an easy walk to the Sakurajima ferry as well as the Nakamuchi shopping district. The aquarium and the dolphin Port shopping area is also close by.
