My life learning experience in Jamaica

1st time to Jamaica and an all inclusive resort. We were expecting a fantastic time. Well, that didn't happen. The people we were with had bad experiences with some tours they took , so we didn't do them. The staff was pushy and expected tips constantly. I like to tip not being asked to tip. I was told I could make a phone call from my room from the lobby staff. My credit card was scammed over the phone and the call never went through. I asked the lobby staff how I could fix the problem. I don't feel I was fairly treated since they told me the most safe way was to call from my room. Then my card was charged $197.30 USD for nothing cause the call never went through. Wedding plans were lost by them and had to be redone. instead of a wonderful sea food dinner it was chicken. Yippee!!! Well I could go on but I wont. I did have friends and family that has gone to another popular resort and they were treated like royalty and not asked for tips constantly and the food was excellent. Oh well we live and we learn.(Bahia principe)

Just OK

Hotel was just ok, food mediocre, shows were just as another person described like a talent show. If you purchase wifi it will not work in your room most of the time. Traveled 4/11-4/16 hotel was completely booked other reviews said it was very hard to get a beach or pool chair not true there was always room.

Couples trip

We had a great time on our recent visit to the grand bahia. I would advise everyone to upgrade to the don pablo package! They treated us like royalty every where we went. The staff are extremely nice and friendly. Word of advise if you plan to tip bring lots of singles!! The japanese restaurant was our favorite! The jerk chicken is to die for! There are plenty options at the buffets, we never went hungry and we both don't eat red meat, so the options were plentiful. I can go on and on about this hotel we had a spectacular time. Every1 shld spend a day by the towel hut FUN FUN FUN! My only short list of complaints would be the jacuzzi tub didn't work, the last full day the water was shut off for less than a hour, they didn't have a full premium bar, and BEWARE of gift shop prices OUTRAGEOUS 125.00 for the bottle of white hennesy which was 50 bucks at the airport! Also couples beware some of the staff can be a little flirtatious and bold! Oh and the biggest annoyance was the staff walking around speaking of a vip breakfast BEWARE BEWARE!!!

Relaxing Getaway to Jamaica

This was my husband and I's third time to Jamaica and first time at this resort. We got a great value on this trip through (even our travel agent couldn't beat it!). The resort is very large >900 rooms. We stayed in the Don Pablo collection, which got great reviews and was was just a few dollars more a day and definitely worth it. They had a nice private lounge with free wifi, bar, snacks, and private check in and check out, private section at the pool with nicer chairs and good bar service, and also the option to eat unlimited dinners at the ala carte restaurants instead of the buffet. There was also a small private section on the beach for Don Pablo guests, although this had pretty much no shade so we didn't go here much. The beach was OK, but was at the very far end of the resort from our room and was also pretty crowded, so we opted to go to the pool and relax in a Cabana most days. The pool was very nice and the best thing about this resort in our opinion! Our room was nice #24 block, just opened in November 2012# for the value price we got and had a whirlpool tub. We were lucky enough to have a corner room and so we got a large L-shaped balcony which had a pretty good ocean view. Overall the housekeeping and minibar service was pretty reliable, except for the first day, where it seemed like tub was not cleaned very well. The restaurants and buffet were average. the Italian restaurant was our favorite, followed by the Spanish #Picasso# and the entree served tableside at the Don Pablo restaurant. One thing we did not particularly care for was that we had calls every day #sometimes more than one a day) from the butler service to ask if we needed anything. We had told them that if we needed anything we would let them know since we are pretty self sufficient, but they would still call every day anyway. While the intention was nice, this was a little distracting to us. Once we requested extra diet coke, which they brought right away, and another time we did request a service to prepare a bubble bath one evening, but they did not do so. So, it seems like the butler service can be hit or miss. Also, at most dinners, only beer or wine was available, which was a little disappointing. Overall, the service at this resort was average; cordial, but did not really go above and beyond in any way. To sum it up, we feel like we got pretty much what we were expecting for the price we paid; a pretty average nice relaxing vacation. We would consider to stay at another Gran Bahia resort in the Don Pablo collection if we are able to find a similar or better value. PROS: Pool, Don Pablo Lounge, Value CONS: Size of resort, restaurants

Fun place, good stay

The staff was very friendly and most were helpful. We had problems with the water activities, communication about snorkeling times and procedures for signing up were not relayed to us. Some of the water sports staff were unwilling to let guests take advantage of their all-inclusive activities. Food at the resort was good. The a la carte restaurants were not great, and although servers were very friendly and helpful, food service was incredibly slow.

Sign up early for snorkeling, trips leave at 9:30 and 1:30 and space is limited. After that, there isn't a great availability of snorkeling gear

Wouldn't know...they were overbooked.

After an hour ride to this hotel we were very awkwardly informed that the hotel was overbooked. We we called into a back room and it was uncomfortable. I found this incredibly strange since I had called a week prior to confirm. I just couldn't understand why the hotel manager couldn't have called me the day before so I would have to waste valuable vacation time traveling from hotel to hotel. I was required to leave info about the room and amenities, but I really wouldn't know because we never made it past the lobby.

Excellent vacation.

We were with a group of 6 and we had a great time. We were there the same time last year and loved it so much that we came back. The experience was just as great as the first time. One of the restaurants, the Italian one was not good at all, but the others were great especially Don Pablo. The weather was great, the water was perfect. We didn't use the pool because we have a pool at home. The buffet was great, one night they had grilled lobster tails which were fantastic. The room had a water view which was nice too.
