Not a great experience.

Upon arrival there was no welcome from the front desk staff. One particular employee had us waiting while he did what seem like budgeting. Kevin was the only one at the front desk on our arrival that treated us with respect. The maintenance staff was wonderful and helpful. The same food every day and what made it worse was the dispicable morning staff in the dining area. Our overall experience was not great. I could say alot more but i dont see this hotel making any changes to their substandard service.

Great value for the money!

I've read many negative reviews and was pleased to find them not accurate in my estimation. Although it's no Mariott as one put it, that should've been evident just by the booking price. Room for many improvements. Like, more beach chairs, and perhaps one doesn't need to reserve them at or before dawn, after all VACATION! No air condition in the three overworked elevators of the soutn tower. Not ecatly the vision of a crystal clear Jamacan beach, but a Great value for the money!

OK, but not great

The overall trip was OK, but did not quite live up to the hype. The room was clean, but small and not what was shown in the pictures on the web page. The food was pretty good. There is a huge buffet area that we used for breakfast and lunch, but for dinner we signed up for one of the 4 restaurants each night. That added a little diversity to the feel. The beach was OK, but they ran out of the free snorkel gear every day, so you have to get there early. There were multiple bars available, and as long as you like Red Stripe on tap, you are good to go. We did a couple excursions to Dunn's Falls and to Zip lines, and I would recommend both. Biggest question is - could you get and equal or better value somewhere in Montego Bay, and eliminate the 3 hr bus ride each way to Ocho Rios? I still say the beaches on the Gulf side of Florida are some of the best in the world!

Never again

I will not be returning to this hotel or Jamaica any time soon. The service was horrible and the people were not just unfriendly, but rude. I in no way expected a 5 star hotel, but at the least a clean hotel with pleasant staff, you'll find neither here! We arrived at the hotel before check in and were told our room would not be ready until 3. A little after 3 we returned to the front desk where others that were just coming were receiving their room keys. I was told we still didn't have a room & when I asked when it would be available, the desk person rudely told me she didn't know. We waited another hour and a half before we got a room, after finally speaking with a manager. Then when we got our room and we waited another 2 hrs for our luggage until I went down to the front desk & saw our luggage sitting unattended in a corner where I grabbed it myself. This was just the beginning of a week of ridiculously horrible service! The food was limited, which didn't matter because most of it was unedible. When we attended their "upscale" restaurant for dinner the other diners were cockroaches crawling up the walls and under our feet!!! Just disgusting!! The outdoor dining area also included several stray cats begging for food?? We did not come across one resort personel that was nice or helpful. After talking to other guests that have stayed at this resort in the past, we quickly found out that the resort has gone way downhill from previous years. Many of them will also not be returning guests! You can't walk anywhere without locals trying to sell you their things be it legal or not!! And if you tell them no, they stand their and mock you!! The only nice thing we experienced was the weather & the pools, which were actually kept clean. We did have to bring our own plastic cups to drink out of as the glasses they served in were disgusting at the pool bar! They dipped, not scrubbed, the glasses in 2 tubs of dirty water, then set them back to be used. You can also forget hearing any reggae music or seeing decent entertainment while your there. The only decent thing about this hotel was the location, there are a lot of excursions offered in the area. We will not be returning to this resort or any other resort managed by this company! It was quite expensive and we clearly did not get what we paid for!!

Weekend getaway.

It was my first time a the Sun Set Jamaica Grand, and was a bit dissapointed. The food was lousy, entertainment could have been better knowing that Jamaica supposed to be celebrating it's 50th anniversary.

Location ONLY

I stayed at this hotel from 2/27 - 3/1/12, the room were not in good shape at all. I am not a complainer, but if you book this hotel, don't expect a good room, not at all. NO soap, NO floor towel mat, NO clock, wow, the ocean view I paid for was a joke, what a waste of money and the food was not good at all. I stayed here 3 years ago and this hotel has gone down, there were so many people complaining, it was unbelievable, the drinks are so watered down, I didn't even get a buzz, no premium liquor, not even Malibu rum, and tha's not premium at all. I don't understand who the people are that loved this hotel, but if you book it after you've read this review, don't blame anyone but yourself, save your money and go to one of the Rui, mainly n Montego Bay where the food was good, the rooms were much nicer and the service was top notich, I would never recommed this hotel again, location is the only thing this hotel has going for it. Sorry, but this is sooo true, Now I see why the price was not too expensive as you get what you pay for,
