a Jamaican Jewel
This is the first time that we were pleasantly surprised by a resort. Transfer is included in the package, we only had a 15 minute wait for a van. I expected a much longer wait Upon arrival, the bell captain greeted us, secured our luggage and brought us 2 wonderful cold drinks and a cold washcloth. He sat us in the lobby and said the front desk would come to us! We had a problem that they did not show us as paid in full, I had my online receipt and they promptly took care of it. We arrived at 11:30 AM and was told that check in was at 3. They took us to the restaurant to get lunch and said they were have a room prepared ASAP. We were shocked when about 1/2 hour later our room was ready. The room was newly remodeled and was very nice, very clean as is the whole resort - everyone is always tidying up the place. Very well trained staff and well managed resort. All staff mebers bent over backwards to make sure we were happy. Not once did anyone ASK for a tip! They were extremely gratefull when tipped. I was execting mediocre food from an all inclusive, but it very good. Sure there were things we did not like, but there were some items we loved. The buffets were very good. The Japanese restaurant was a great time. We bought the special candle light dinner for $150 and it was worth it! Private dining at the top of the waterfall! The Italaian restaurant was good. We did not care for the food or service at the one that required a dress code - it was just fair, our room service was actually better. Drinks were very good and plentifull- bars are everywhere both in and out of the pool. The lifeguards would actually wait on you for drinks! there are 2 fast food places by the pool, a BBQ stand which was great and a pizza place that we did not care for. We new that we would not be leaving the resort, but nearby are the falls, the bobsled and zip line parks (about 5-10 minutes away) JTL tours has a desk in the lobby and they will bus you anywhere. We went into ocho rios to shop ($10PP) They warn you about the locals being very aggressive and that is an under statement! We left the craft bazzaar as it was just too much. The van dropped us off at a gift shop that they recommended. We got a discount on evrything, but be warned that they lie about how much liquor you can bring back home. We spent $350 on 12 bottles and were shocked when customs in the USA said we were only allowed 2 bottles per person! After a 2 hour ordeal in customs - we were released. Do not buy from the gift shop in the hotel, the batteries we bought were dead and the shop manager said "tough"! I went to the hotel MGR and he took care of it. Our neighbor had the same problem with a phone card. The resort is adults only and was very quiet and relaxing. The Sandals next door was very loud, fortunately they cut it off at 10PM. They took us out on sailboats 3 times and we also took out a paddle boat - all are included. the beach is fenced in to keep out the locals, we felt very safe and secure. When you leave the resort - we did not feel secure, so we stayed put as planned and were treated like royalty I have never reviewed a resort before but felt these folks deserved it! By the way, they opened in Sept 2010 so disregard any reviews before then as they are talking abou the Sandals resort which built a new complex next door. If your are looking for a place to stay put and relax, this is it. If you are looking to always be away site seeing - Jamaica isn't the right place

Truly a Jewel
Jewel was a great all-inclusive resort. We had a great time, enjoyed the food, and the service was spectacular. Don't book this vacation if you're not willing to take a 1.5 hour free airport transfer. However, our bus ride was quite enjoyable, as the tour group (JTL) that Jewel uses is informational, and provided us with a commentary the entire ride the the resort. We loved it! We gained a bit of Jamaican history and learned about some of the parishes along the way. When we got to the resort, we were greeted with drinks and exceptional service. They had us sit and rest while they checked us in, carried our bags to our room, and advised us of all the activities going on. The resort as a whole always has some sort of activity going on. If that's not your style, that's okay too! Wander down the the beautiful, clean beach front for wonderful views. The best part of this vacation? Either the zip lining experience (WOW!), or the fact that the resort wasn't fully booked. We never had to wait for anything, the beach was never packed, and the food was always hot and delicious. We'd go back for sure! I'll be suggesting this resort to friends.

Try the Jesters pizza place. We had almost every pizza and these brick oven delights were so scrumptious, we had one every day for lunch. Yum!

A grate couples get away
your stay starts at the air port where the tour guide will find you and get you to your right bus. it is a 1.5 hour ride through the beutiy full costal inland. then at the hotel you are greated buy the staff with a drink in hand for you. the bell capton takes your bags from the buss whale you check in . they already seam to know who you are and are ready for you. afeter you are set in your room go down to the tour desk. and go to the mistic mountant zip line tour . it was a lot of fun. we also did the dune buggys i wish i would have done thier trippel package of buggy, river tubing and zip line. i will next time.the shoping tour was fine. but at the craft market the venders can be agressive. just rember to only pay 1/4 of the asking price. this my require you to walk away before they agree to the price.

Great adult getaway
Even though we arrived a day late and without our luggage, everyone at the resort tried to make us feel better, and to look at the bright side. We were to get married there and our luggage didn't arrive until 4 days later, the day of the wedding, but we still had a great time at the resort, eating, drinking and over-all good times. A man to contact in Ocho Rios, [...], would pick you up at your hotel and take you anywhere, for anything and everything...clothes, entertainment, tours...highly recommend him. Thanks again [...] for everything( and [...]).Concierges, [...], kept at it until we got our luggage, thank you. Everyday the help would ask how we were doing and if our luggage came yet..."no worries, it will arrive." We are planning on returning for anniversaries...but not with the same airline(US AIRWAYS).

Amazing Experience
All of the reviews we read before we booked were accurate. Jewel is an amazing resort for those of us who like to save a little money and still enjoy fine things. The food is great and the staff is excellent. The beach is very clean and quiet. Pool bars and entertainment is just enough. We loved it and had a blast!

Amazing couples getaway!
the resort is amazing, the staff is super friendly. This resort is veryyy suitable for young or older couples looking forward to a quiet time and relaxing. We stayed at a premier guest room which was more than enough. We stayed for 10 nights and 11 days and wished to stay longer. They have entertainment shows every night, they have games and around 6 bars ...the restaurants are extraordinary...including breakfast! I have no complaints whatsoever,i would definitely recommend this resort for honeymooners.as for us,we would definitely go back!

Had a great trip
Went for an extended weekend. Hotel was very easy to get around, food was pretty good overall, and the hotel staff was great! Also very close to Dunns falls which was a good trip. Also right down the street from Jamaican restaurant Scotchies that was very good. Will def be back to Jamaica and if we decide Ocho Rios again we will stay no where else but the Jewel.

Lasting memories at the Jewel
This was our first trip to Jamaica. We celebrated our 25th anniversary at the Jewel!! We were a little disappointed to hear the bus trip from the airport was going to be 11/2 to 2 hours but, it wasn't that bad at all!! We had a great driver who was very entertaining. We even stopped at a small roadside bar where some got food and drinks to go. The rum punch, what a kick!! When we arrived at the resort, we were treated so well. We were greeted with the gem of the day and cold towels. We were told to have a seat and relax that we were on vacation and didn't have to worry about a thing! Yeah Mon!! Our room was great, Sapphire ocean view! Beautiful mahogany furniture, the four poster bed was so comfortable!! The balcony was wonderful with such a great view of the ocean and partial view of the resort as well. The grounds are beautiful!! We had turn down service every night which was such a surprise. We came home one afternoon to two heart shaped chocolate cakes with a beautifully decorated Happy Anniversary on the plate! We were also invited and attended a cocktail party for those celebrating honeymoons and anniversaries. It was great. I must say the foot and leg massage was wonderful!! We also had a couples massage!! It was amazing!!! Thanks to Jessika!! The staff goes above and beyond at the Jewel!! They are so friendly and helpful! I wish I could remember each of their names. I do remember a few for sure. First and foremost Jason, So good at what he does!! Gets everyone involved in all the activities going on. We met Jason on our first full day at the resort during orientation and he never forgot our names the entire time we stayed!! So Funny too!! Also want to mention two great bartenders, Garnet and Demetri!! Great personalities and such great service!! If you want a different or high end brand of liquor, all you have to do is ask!! The food was very good! The beach is a bit small but was never crowded! It was just beautiful as well as the ocean!! Loved it so much!! The pool is great too...especially the pool bar. So much fun was had there!! The entertainment was just great!! We loved it all!! We went on a few excursions, one was snorkeling, the Dunn's River Falls and a booze cruise on the way back, we had a great time!! Even the bus ride was fun, great driver and music!! The other was horseback riding at Chukka. We had a great time riding, but swimming on horseback in the ocean was the BEST!!!! I can't imagine a better place to have celebrated our 25th and can't wait to come back!! I miss it already!!!
