Voted Best Value on the Negril beach by Caribbean Travel and Life magazine. Located about 29 miles southwest of Montego Bay airport, White Sands Negril is ideal for families, singles and couples alike. White Sands is a great choice for the undemanding traveler who prefers the ambience of a bed and breakfast to that of a traditional hotel. We take pride in being described as a resort with a non-hotel atmosphere, whose rooms are simple, clean and affordable. The philosophy is that a vacation is all about spending time with family and friends, and that it is best achieved by eliminating everyday distractions. This is why at White Sands you will not find televisions, telephones and internet connections in the rooms. Rest assured, there is a telephone in the front office, all major US cell phone carriers roam in Jamaica, or you can rent a cell phone while you are there. We offer free wireless access by the front office for those with a laptop, and there is a television at the beach bar. In a way, White Sands challenges their guests to disconnect from their everyday working lives and reconnect with those near and dear to them. In a digital, on-demand world this can be a challenge for some. At White Sands Negril our wish is for you to escape to a pace of life that you control, and not that which controls you.

Make sure to tell the beach salesmen that you HAVE been to Jamaica before in an effort to make them leave you alone. If they know it is your first time, they will target you. If they believe you've been to Negril before, they'll likely not waste their time.

Only used the room for sleeping mainly. There was no phone or television. I was upgraded to an apartment that could sleep ... four. Had a decent dining area, kitchen with supplies for cooking, and a sitting area outside of the main bedroom. Would be great for a group of people that are not in to the luxury aspect of the all inclusive resorts.

Fantastic location
I did enjoy my stay. What could have made it better was having a tv in the room. At the time of booking I didnt realize there ... were no tv and it wouldn't be bad to have wifi in the rooms, or some of the rooms could have these things and make them optional to customers. I do understand some people like rooms with no entertainment, but some rooms could have it and make those rooms optional.

Couldn't ask for more!
White Sands is a wonderful hotel that, in my opinion, can accommodate any type of traveler. My three friends and I, all aged ... between 23-25, had the time of our lives. The hotel owners, staff, bartenders, and waiters were all incredibly courteous and treated us with much respect. Moreover, the hotel security guard did a wonderful job and made it so we could truly relax on the beach. The native salesmen can be a handful from time to time, but Liddon made sure that when we were beach lounging, they would not be an issue. Without hesitation, I would recommend White Sands to families, singles, and couples. The beach is incredible, and centrally located on the seven-mile beach, perhaps in the most ideal location there is.

Excellent location, very laid-back, excellent house keeping, beds were a little hard, the refrigerator was not working ... properly and not addressed, and the people were somewhat bother some even during the evening events with asking for money/drinks at the reggae shows and events, not a problem at the hotel, lobster brought to you freshly cooked on the beach is awesome....

I wish I had gone somewhere else!
I hope this helps: 1. The hotel, you get what you pay for! Which is little. There are is no TV in the room, no phone, beds ... are two twin beds pushed together, so you end up with a broken back. You may say, who needs all of that when you are in Jamaica. Believe me, after several days, when it get dark at 7, you do. Trying to walk the beach was unsuccessful, because in 10 minutes, 10 people beg you to buy any drug imaginable and there are rarely other people waking when it gets dark. If you walk the street you get honked at least 100 times, someone trying to offer you a taxi ride. 2. Not staying at the resort is not the way to go. Prices in Jamaica are outrageous! If you think you will get a cheap hotel and then go all out for meals, think twice. For a bottle of Coke (vending machine size) at dinner we paid $4.25, fruit shake $6. Dinner per person is approximately $20-$30 at least. At that rate, for 5 days you can stay at a 5 star all inclusive resort and enjoy your vacation. 3. Not very sanitary. I did not trust the food, the people, nothing. They seem very nice and want to talk and welcome everyone, but that is as long as you are buying something from them. My husband got sick really bad, fever, diarrhea, etc. Since there was no phone in the room, the medical emergency numbers were posted at the office but that was useless. 4. The beach is breathtaking, but that is about it. Miles of white sand and crystal clear waters. We went snorkeling for 1/2 day and that was wonderful! Overall, the beach could have been much more enjoyable had I not been asked to buy something every 2 minutes. You are reading your book or napping, and someone who has asked you for the 10000 time to buy something again comes up to you interrupting, waking you up or whatever it takes to get your attention. Ignoring does not work. As mentioned, I have been much better places and for what it ended up costing us, we could have stayed at a 5 star resort with all the amenities not worrying about the food we ate that we paid an arm and a leg for. I have been to the Dominical Republic two times, stayed at an all-inclusive resort and hotel and it is a much more enjoyable experience. The people are friendlier, you don't feel like being taken advantage off and you will have a much better experience.

This is my third time to the White Sands and I will be back. I love the location, the friendly staff, and the beach! It's ... just perfect if you aren't a picky traveller. You are in one of the most beautiful places in the world- just enjoy it! The rooms are very basic- we were never in our room anyways.

Great bang for your buck
White Sands is a great value with a friendly staff. Its a no frills resort, but the room was clean. No clock, no radio, no ... tv, nothing. Basically, two tiny beds and a bathroom. Which worked for me because I didnt travel all the way to Jamaica to sit in a hotel room and watch tv. White Sands Hotel is steps away from beautiful seven mile beach.

Hidden treasure
This was perfect because it had no phone or television. It was nice to get away from the hectic NYC lifestyle for one week. ... The room was spacious and calming. Although the air conditioner didn't work, there was a nice balcony to cool off. It's right on the beach and there are attractions just a cab ride away.

Staff was very friendly and attentive, room did not many frills
White Sands is in an excellent location It's literally less than 1 min from the beach!!! We (my boyfriend and I) stayed on ... the side of the street with the beach our room had an okay garden view. The staff is very friendly and helpful! The beach was BEAUTIFUL, the water was clear the beach was clean and I wasnt hasseled by the locals selling things like some of the other reviewers mentioned. The hotel has a bar and kitchen, we ate there for breakfast and had drinks throughout the day and they had great drink specials. There were all sorts of water activities offered along the beach that you can bargin for the price. There are many activities to do (ie tours, water sports, nite life) just ask the locals. You can also negotiate any and everything without cheating the seller. We went to The Jungle on Sat to party. I got crowed around 11:30/12:00. They had a great mix of contemp Hip Hop and Reggae and the basement was rockin with comtemp Reggae There drinks are good too. Compared to Montego Bay, Negril is laid back truely a great palce to vacation. We really enjoyed ourselves and will definetly return!!!

Worst hotel experience of my life
The White Sands hotel is not recommended. The hotel is from start to finish not a good place to stay. They will charge you a ... view premium to be on the ocean side of the street. Our view consisted of looking at a vacant lot that had trash thrown in it. The A/C didn't work well at all (it was a window unit). The hotel would be suitable for spring break if you were just packing 4 people into a room and dont care what your room looks like at all. I would recommend spending the extra money and staying at a hotel that is nice so that you can enjoy the beautiful island.

Good place to stay for the money!!!
Yes, you can stay at the bigger resorts and get more amenities but White Sands was a good. The beach is right across the ... road, the drink specials are reasonable (usually 2 for 6 and very good) and you can travel up and down the beach for other activities. We did not miss out on any activities and we only paid half the price of some of the bigger resorts. The only downside is that the bar closes at 10 and the little cafe closes at three. Security was wonderful (be sure to tip). There is a great little cafe (Selena's) down the road. And there is a guy who sells lobsters (delicious) and jerk chicken (yum!) right on the beach! We ate more for less by eating from the beach vendors. I would stay there again.

Great location
The white sands hotel was great value for my girlfriend and I. Its old, but very comfortable with nice gardens and a great ... location - right in middle of negrils seven mile beach. We had the beach side room with high ceilings, bar fridge aircon and fan. It was very close to shops, restaurants and nightlife. Places where the locals eat which were cheap and close: 'Tony Montanas' (the jamaican owner looks like him! good breakfast) 'Best in the west' (great Jerk Chicken) 'Juicy Patties' (Beef, chicken, cheese or vegies inside a pastry) 'The sweet spot' (home cooked traditional jamaican meals)

We always started at the hotels beach bar as it has 2 for 1 drink deals everyday. short walk to alfreds bar (lots of tourists and locals with live music) or taxi drives to Wet n Wild, happy monday (both dancehall reggae music parties in a vacant lot of land), ricks cafe (cliff jumping and live music), scub a dub (tame strip club) were all fun.
