the palms resort

this was our first time to jamaica . the room we booked from the palms for a week was not anything we saw pictures of . they showed us pictures of the newly renovated room but we received a room that was very dirty and uncomfortable. other than the aggressive venders on the beach . the people there showed alot of love and the beach was absolutely beautiful. the weather was great the food there was good and the freshest of fruits and vegetables. all and all it was a interesting experience i recommend not changing in your money at a airport , do it a bank instead. also if you go into the town of negril watch all the men trying to exchange money to you they will try to pull a fast one on you.

The perfect spot in Jamaica...

This hotel was awesome. This is not a Marriott nor a Westin this is just simply a small hotel on a great location with an incredible beach. You can jog, do any waters sports, dine walk the beach for hours, best sunsets i have ever seen, a great bar by the beach. One thing was that the pool look old and in bad need repairs and improvement that is why I did not gave them a 5. Honestly it would not matter anyways because the beach is so beautiful that you would not be at the pool anyways. Food is great a little pricey but worth it we went to two different restaurants walking by the beach and they are cheaper but not as good as the hotel. Service is slow but trust is it is slow everywhere apparently. However the staff is well trained and they really go out of their way to make you smile and feel at home. For the money this hotel is just the perfect spot in Negril. We felt safe the entire time.

Great location! Ok Resort!

The Palms Resort is located in a prime location - in the middle of the famous seven mile beach. There is a lot to see and do or just relax. This was my second trip to Negril and wanted to stay at a smaller and non-inclusive resort to really experience the local Jamaican flavors. I stayed at Beaches Negril previously and felt that I didn’t get the local Jamaican experience. Overall the resort was good. Rooms definitely need updating. The staff made up for the less than desirable rooms. They were friendly and accommodating. I got a fantastic massage from Evelyn for half the price of what I paid at the previous resort I stayed at. I had left my diamond necklace at the spa and she delivered it to my room immediately. Food and drinks were fantastic!!! Excellent local flavors and fresh seafood and fish! I would return to this resort again. I hope the new owners will read my review and update the rooms…even just a touch of paint or new tiles would make a big difference.

nice accomodations

We had a deluxe room , which I would recommend vs the standard room . They were clean , and nicely appointed with tile and wood . The pool and beach area was above average compared to other choices on the beach , but the beer and refreshments were double the price of most places on the beach . The staff was pleasant and accomodating .

what appealed to us most was the beach side lounge area , but the food and drink was overpriced . There are cheaper choices to drink and dine in walking distance .

So So

We chose this hotel wanting to stay away from big all-inclusive resorts, and looking more for an authentic small setting. The good: small setting hotel, not crowded even when fully booked, friendly staff, food at restaurant was good and on par with most other restaurants on the beach. The bad: Do not book the "basic" room, it is not worth it, either book the deluxe room or look for another hotel. We did not even have a cabinet to store our clothes (we left them in our luggage the whole week), there was no phone, no hairdryer, no iron, the bed was not comfortable, the bathroom did not have hot or warm water, with an extremely low water pressure (stopped several times between 6 and 8 PM (when most guests are taking showers), and most importantly, there was no glass on the windows, only shutters that would not close all the way, making sleep extremely difficult with the constant noise coming from insects, crickets, hotel guests, traffic early in the morning...We woke up most days no later than 7 AM due to sunlight (curtains were almost see-through). Bottom line: I wouldn't go as far as not recommending this hotel, but if I would go back to Negril, certainly, this hotel would not be on my top list.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

For dining, many good restaurants on the beach within walking distance. The hotel restaurant is good and I would recommend trying it at least once, we ate many times at Shereta's and Conchill (both immediately to the north (right) of the hotel. Te breakfast omelet at Shereta's was delicious and the Rasta Pasta as well as the Jerk Chicken at Chonchill was extremely good as well.

The Palms Reso, Negril, Jamaica

We wanted to RELAX! We wanted a place RIGHT ON THE BEACH, QUIET! The Palms absolutely filled the bill. If you are a high-energy, high-rise resort type of person, this is NOT the place for you. Very pretty, small enough to be intimate, but large enough to have a professional staff. Great staff, very attentive, but NOT OBTRUSIVE-- and the MAN is Ramsey--his shirt may say "SECURITY", and he most definitly supplies that, he much more than that--one of his special talents is telling you what is SAFE to do in Jamaica and what is NOT--if you go, look for him, listen to the man! The bar=amazing: they make a mind-boggling array of mojitos's! Great food also. Downsides: frankly, I cannot think of any. We were only able to stay 3 nights, but we had a BLAST.

Great spot on 7 mile beach!

The beach area is absolutely lovely, there is a great little deck restaurant and bar with a clean and pretty pool. The ocean is bright blue and amazing. Our room was clean, but quite simple-- if you want modesty, you got it (no phone, one light). Didn't matter to us, we didn't spend anytime in there anyway :) Staff was very friendly and grounds are very well kept.

simple and relaxing

the rooms are simple and very comfortable. they change all towels and mop the room everyday. you do have to pay $5 a day to use the safe in the room. i found the restaurant to be expensive, $20 for pasta! and the bar drinks are not strong and are $6-$10 each! you do not get quality for the amount of money you spend! we started making our own drinks with bottles of rum and juice purchased from the beach store next to the bar. for cheep food vistit: ossie's across from hotel, casmo's, and the pattie shop with $2 red strips down the beech. casmos bar/restaurant was my favorite! for the cheepest mixed drinks and dinner( try festival, a type of bread). the shops next door have amazing prices but dont forget to barder prices! TIP: casmo's has a FREE shuttle, so you dont have to walk the beech at night!! the people at the front desk at the Palm's got us a shuttle and made us pay for a ride instead of telling us!! a bit dissapointing.. we always asked for assistance in getting a taxi from the front desk, just to be safe being two females.. we ended up paying $30 to go to ricks cafe and shopping for the evening. then they charged us $60 the next day to take us roundtrip 10 miles down the road!! again, dont be affaid to tell them you wont pay that and nagotiate another price. make sure you ask your driver to suggest someplace that they like to eat at, then ake if they will be willing to let you get food to go.. my oppinion is that Negril is a lot of commuting to and from the airport (about 1 1/2 to 2 hours one way). it is not the best place for two females, i felt that when walking we were an easier target esp. in the dark. jamaica is not a cheep vacation! take less clothes and more money!! make sure you buy coffee, rum, and rum cakes..but, was an amazing experience! :)

Reasonably good exrerience

The rooms were small and bareboned. There was a tiny closet with 4 hangers, not a picture an the wall & no shelves or drawers. Sometimes there was no hot water or no water at all. You could hear road noise. The staff, the beach, the pool, and the bar were all excellent. If I have the oppurtunity to return to Negril I believe I will seek out other accomadations.
