I always try to have a good time......But, I had called this resort after I confirmed my reservation. The staff ensured me that my room comes with a stove and everything I would need to cook! It took over 48hours for them to have all of these items in my room once I arrived. The manager was a real piece of work, not friendly and she did not know how to talk to customers!!!! I would not recommend this resort purely on that fact. I am still looking for the resort that makes me feel like I am family and home!!!!!!!!

Clean, comfortable, pretty, great service
As the name says, it's on the beach, but our room was far enough away that we heard street noise, not waves. Rooms was spacious, and bathroom was nicely done. Breakfast was delicious and always began promptly at 7:30a. All staff were nice and knowledgeable: desk, housekeeping, servers and bartenders. Grounds were beautiful. Sister hotel on the cliffs is also very nice and is only a free van ride away and a nice way to get a change of scenery.

Nightlife tip:
Short walk from hotel
Along the beach are a range of bars and restaurants from nice to hole-in-the-wall. In Negril, there's no need to ever get dressed up or even get out of your flip-flops. Alfred's often has live music outdoors with dancing in the sand. Cover charge can be negotiated if you have a large group. Some places only accept cash, but they take U.S. dollars as well as Jamaican money.

Sadset on the Beach
I have been traveling to Negril for 15t years and generally stay at Sunset on the Beach. However since it is now being leased out to new people, it has become a nightmare. I rented a suite with kitchen and stopped to get groceries before I arrived. Only to find that there was no stove in the kitchen. As I have said, I am a frequent patron of this hotel and know that a kitchenette means a stove. No problem, I changed rooms a couple of days later. I'm happy to make adjustments. Especially with people that care about your having a good experience. However, the new lease/owners where so hostile and disrepectful I ended up changing hotels all together. Instead of them being concerned about the amenities promised and not recieved, they harassed me unrelentingly about having my adult neice in my suite for 2 days. Which in the past if you rented a suite it was not a problem to have a guest. I would never under any circumstances (except the owner taking back possession) stay at Sunset on the Beach again and still the memories of how I was so rudely treated would be in my mind. Unlike the past 15 years of peace and relaxation, the new leaser's have turned hospitality into hostility. I suggest anyone deciding to make this hotel their destination take [...]some vitamin E for Hot flashes and explain to the new little boy from the States that this is not a college dormitory. I think this is his first Residence Assistance opportunity. After changing hotels and talking to several of the locals I have befriended over the years, I learned that there have been many complaints about the rude treatment recieved since these new folks have been permitted to lease what USED to be a true No Problem experience. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON"T STAY AT SUNSET! There are plenty of other wonderful places along Norman Manley Blvd that would be happy to have your business.

Short walk from hotel
Most hotels along Norman Manley are a short walk to entertainment. Just ask the staff where the party is.

A perfectly nice place to stay in Negril
I wanted an inexpensive place to stay a few nights with my friend for our annual winter sun fix trip. I wasn't expecting much. I just wanted a clean place on the beach which is why I booked Sunset on the Beach. Somehow the hotel didn't have a room for us even though we paid in advance. They put us up at the sister property on the cliffs. We were bummed about this because our primary goal was to be on the beach. As soon as we saw the view from the terrace though we happy. It is so relaxing just sitting out there facing the water and hearing the water lap onto the rocks. Now when we go back we'll stay at Sunset on the Cliffs. We loved it. Everyone was very chill, very relaxed yet getting a dirty banana was no problem, getting a nice hot breakfast served on the patio overlooking the water was no problem. They shuttled us to the beach - no problem. My only quibble is there are NO amenities but I know for the next time. Bring shampoo and moisturizer. Eat at Da Bar right across the street. It's super casual, super cheap and super delicious. We had the best jerk chicken of our stay there. You can also walk to the Rockhouse next door for a lovely, more upscale dinner. The Juta shuttle brings you to your hotel from the airport for $18 each way. You can't beat it.

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
Walk into town for supplies & catch a route taxi back. 100J per person from the round about back to Sunset on the Beach. Most beach vendors selling fruit & lobsters start there day here so your purchase is fresh. The produce truck arrives on Tuesdays & Fridays & allows purchasing directly from back of truck. Great breakfast to start your day should you opt for the breakfast plan.

Great arrival, horrid departure!
Everything was great in the beginning. My wife, sister, friend, and I were robbed early in the morning the day of our departure. If this had not happened, then it would have been a fantastic stay! The burglars came in while my wife and sister were sleeping and I was in the shower! Heard noises, and came out to find people running off with most of our things. We were in the honeymoon sweet.

Rick's Cafe is awesome. Cliff jumping and the view was terrific. prices were very touristy, but you don't have to buy to go. Live music was terrific.
