sea splash, low flash

nothing spectacular at all but not bad either. nice location but no cover from the sun on the beach such as umbrellas, etc. not the place to go if your trying to impress someone but if you want to see Jamaica and the beach at a lower cost, you can do it here. I spent 2 days at sandals and 2 days at sea splash. sandals is a lot nicer but no culture really. at sea splash, a lot more locals (which can be bothersome at times as they will solicit you) and close to margaritaville.

Good Stuff!!

Loved SeaSplash...awesome beach...wonderful staff...great location. We enjoyed Norma's Restaurant and the bar at the hotel...several great restaurants within walking distance. Great reggae music at Alfred's and Roots Bamboo..fantastic jazz on Sunday nights at The Palms with the most amazing band and female singer...not to be missed! My only complaint for Sea Splash...could have used a blanket or bedspread on the bed...it was a bit cold at night with the a/c but could not sleep without it. Also, would have enjoyed some reggae or Jamaican style music at the bar/beach rather than the constant blaring of the TV. My sister and I booked this trip for total relaxation and this was just perfect!

Right next door to Sea Splash at "Cheap Thrills" ...THE BEST Jamaican lunch ever (fish or chicken) for $5 US and awesome patties...also, the best spot for souvenirs...no hassle from the vendors...[...] and [...] are awesome!

Cool, last minute trip on a tight budget

Sea splash was perfect for our last minute trip to Jamaica on a budget. It's cute, quiet, and conveniently located on the beach. The junior suite was pleasant and clean. However, a little paint and a few minor updates would have been favorable. The staff was nice and accommodating. It is not a luxury hotel but it was a good place to just relax and get away.

If you are looking for a light lunch or a quick snack, try the patty shop next door to the hotel on the beach. The patties are good and only $2-3.

Fantastic week at SeaSplash

We absolutely loved SeaSplash. Our family spent the week after Xmas (Dec 26-Jan2nd) at this lovely, small resort. 3 teenagers (19, 17, 14 - girl, boy, girl)enjoyed every minute. We have traveled quite a bit with our kids - Mexico, Bahamas, Cayman's, St Thomas, Italy, Greece, Florida. We do not look for the ritzy all-inclusives where you can be with the masses of Americans & every moment pampered or Cruise people getting off on shore for the day. We look for a safe, clean, nice, friendly, small resort where we can have a kitchen and a feel of the culture - and of course, the sunset!! SeaSplash was all of that. Here is our thoughts: 1) ROOMS - We booked two 1-bedroom suites (which have full kitchens) and both were on the upper floor with the higher ceilings & loft. The kids suite (room 16) had a king bed, pullout sofa and loft with two double beds, so the 5 of us could actually have all fit in that one room. However, we can't make do with two adults & 3 teenagers and one bath, so we booked two suites. Our suite (room 18) had the king bed and pullout sofa as well, but our loft only had one double bed. The rooms were fine. Always clean but not plush. We saw one ant - no other bugs. We don't care if our room is plush as we spend our days on the beach or doing things like a snokerling trip, watersports, or day trip. The rooms were not as worn as I expected from some of the reviews. The curtains could be updated, but the rest was fine - no stains or holes. SeaSplash was similar to what we found on other islands and in Europe, particularly Greece. They don't run out and replace everything constantly as we do in America. The room was clean, no smells and always a nice hot shower. 2) STAFF - The staff was wonderful. Always attentive and friendly. We treated them with the respect they deserve, pleases, thankyous, and polite waiting when needed. Trudy, the manager, took care of anything we needed and said hello to us by name and asked us if we had any needs everytime we saw her. Originally, we were to go to Jamaica last March to celebrate our 25th anniversary, cancelled when my husband was unexpectedly diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. Now post surgery and a full recovery from cancer, we booked our "makeup" trip with the kids for right after Xmas when our college child was home. Our first room (room 1 I think)was on the lower level near the restaurant and pool. There was little way to feel privacy as the walkways were on either side of the room's windows and the curtains don't seem to completely shut. It also felt much darker than our kids suite upstairs. Not exactly the feel we needed for our anniversary/cancer-free celebration trip. We asked Trudy that evening and she immediately said she would take care of it -our things were moved to Suite 18 upstairs the next afternoon. 3) RESTAURANT - we only ate at Norma's the first evening. The food was good and always had people there, but we went on to experience other restaurants on the beach and in town. We got a pot of coffee on the beach every morning - Yum!! Great coffee, wonderful local sugar too. Might be a wait for the check so plan accordingly. The staff would politely catch us that evening to clear our tab if we had gone on for the day. The Bar is right there on the beach and are very nice to work with. They play music all day so you can have your chaise lounge and enjoy the beautiful scenery everywhere you look. The hot tub was hot while we were there. It sits between the beachbar and restaurant for a relaxing view of the ocean/sunset. We ate at Sweet Spice downtown (local favorite), Kuyaba's (great atmosphere and food!!), Krystals at Palm Resort, Sunrise Club (wonderful italian and international customers) and of course, went to Rick's cafe for the divers and sunset. 4) LOCATION & BEACH - There are shops and small food places and restaurants all around SeaSplash. It is in a safe feeling area and you can take a long walk in either direction. Yes, there ar...

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

Consider doing the Mayfield Falls trip. We hired a very safe driver!!, charming, outgoing & fun local driver named "Shorty" (George "Shorty" Graham operates Shorty's Tours (876)372-3360. He conducts tours of all parts of Jamaica and airport transfers). Shorty drove us the 40 miles into the hills of Jamaica - through small local towns, sugar cane plantations and lush tropical land - to get to Mayfield Falls. He even stopped to show us how to get sugar cane from the field and eat it and told us alot about the Jamaican life and culture since he grew up in a poorer farm town. At Mayfield Falls, you then hike in the river/falls rather than just a "sightseeing" opportunity. Our 19, 17 and 14 year olds loved it (2 girls, one boy)!!! You have a local guide at the falls walk you through and show you where to sit to have the falls wash over you or get behind the water. They also show you all kinds of natural plants, animals, etc in the rainforest. It was a perfect way to see real Jamaica away from the "tourist" beach and our kids won't forget it. I would highly recommend both Mayfield Falls and Shorty as a driver.

A great get-away

Sea Splash Resort was my idea of a perfect hotel in Jamaica--small, personal, tropical landscaping, friendly staff and a beautiful beach. The piping frogs at night are magical, and you will also see hummingbirds and bread fruit trees! The room (junior suite) was not really a suite but a room and a bathroom, but adequate for two. We had a garden view which was lovely, but I would request a balcony or patio next time. I learned that each of the motels has a group of drivers who will take you wherever you want to go, and will also pick you up when you are ready to return. In the future, I would call the hotel and arrange for one of their drivers to pick me up at the airport in lieu of the shuttle because of the extra time we spent waiting at the airport for the bus to fill, then leaving early on our departure day so we could stop and pick up others on our way to the airport. The drive from the airport was a good chance to see small towns, some agriculture, lots of ocean, cliffs, sandy beaches.... Did I mention the coffee? Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, freshly ground with cream (rum cream if you wish) what a wonderful way to start the day. Restaurants we enjoyed: GAO Cafe for breakfast, Three Dives for curried goat, Sweet Spice in Negril for fried chicken with BBQ sauce and fish soup, Rick's Cafe at sunset with a couple of dirty bananas.... Plus, Norma's at the Sea Splash for eggs benedict or dinner.

Great! Calm and perfectly located!

This hotel is well located on the pristine 7-mile beach of Negril. The Hotel Manager was awesome! She knew all the ins and outs of the city and its attractions. Calm hotel without a super party atmosphere (although you only need to head a few feet down the beach to find a party in progress). Would recommend to anyone headed to Negril for the first time. Rooms are cleaned well. The beds are large, but take up most of the space in the smaller rooms. Get a bigger room if you are at all inclined to want some extra space.

Decent trip

Started off in the wrong room, but did get switched to our appropriate room once we complained in the morning. No one every swept the floor, so we often walked around in sand. Quiet in general which was perfect for us, but also it was the off season. Overall, we enjoyed our trip, but you get what you pay for.

Good Location, Great Value.

Great for our needs. Bang for the buck was incredible. Make sure to get the larger 1BR Suite. They are bigger than our apt in NYC. It's nice to have a fridge in the kitchen area so we could make some of our own meals, especially breakfasts, as the service is abysmally slow island wide. I don't want to wait 40 minutes for eggs and toast. I get that this is Jamaica and understand that not everything is perfect and the locals operate on island time. Next time down I'd have no problem staying here again.

Fantastic, intimate resort...

This small hotel is a real find! Beautiful landscaping with loads of tropical atmosphere. Perfect location in the center of Negril 7-Mile Beach. Small and intimate but with all the pluses - nice pool, great beach side bar, one of the best restaurants in Jamaica - Norma's. We could relax at the pool / beach or walk to other great bars / restaurants along the beach. Even at night felt safe. First time in Jamaica and we will return to the Sea Splash. Great romantic place too! Think the reg rooms may be small - we had a junior suite; perfect size. Fridge in the room a plus. Room not luxurious but clean and housekeeping great. Staff was friendly and helpful especially the bar. The place does need a little paint (in the rooms and outside) and outside sprucing up as well, some minor repairs (i.e ac unit covers, window boxes) and a little garden sprucing up but nothing to take away from this wonderful hotel...a few touches to upgrade and this little find would really be at the level of true luxury.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

There is super music at a hotel two down (toward the big resorts). Believe the name is Sea Wind. So many great bars and restaurants along the beach... many with music and each have some level of security so felt safe walking at night. The restaurant at Sea Splash is one of the best Jamaican restaurants --- go! And Cosmo's - a little walk up the beach right past Sandals - the best seafood! the security at the big resorts will query you... but never an issue. Nice to have them there.
