Overall great !

Overall, the experience was great ! Great location and value. The food was not so good as in other RIU Palace that we have experienced like in Plaia del Carmen. The stuff was very good generally speaking, but not all of them. Great place for family.

Enjoyable trip - perfect temps/weather!

Have been to the Aruba, Cabo, and now Jamaica RIU Palace. Of the three, Aruba and Jamaica are literally neck and neck as the best vacation experiences we've enjoyed. Beach in Jamaica is hands down the best. Beach in Cabo the absolute worst. Aruba is right there with Jamaica, but there were never enough lounges are shady areas - if you weren't up early and ran out to "reserve" a spot, you were screwed. *Plenty* of lounges and shady spots in Jamaica. Arbua is in the best location - you can literally walk from the resort into town and back safely and easily. Jamaica is in the best part, Negril, but the location is almost too remote - the cost, time and difficulties in traveling anywhere outside of the resort eats up your vacation time - we wanted to do Dunn's River Falls but it's THREE hours away - one way! We settled for YS Falls, but even that was 1 1/2 hours away as is the airport... Not to mention, they way they drive there is NOT for the faint of heart. Staff and the people of Jamaica are extremely friendly and accommodating. Food was rather disappointing and mediocre - far too "Americanized" - we had hoped to see more local food options. Aruba and even Cabo were much better in this regard. All said and done, Aruba is probably our overall favorite with Jamaica a very close second. We would go again for sure. As for Cabo... bad beach, annoying and overly agressive local beach vendors, and the hotel itself was insect infested and I believe led to both my wife and I becoming extremely ill when we were there.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

Don't buy things out by the pool. You can buy things from the beach shop on the beach or the markets.

Great location - hotel staff left much to be desired

We loved the location of this resort. Bloody Bay was perfect to lay on a floating raft for hours in very calm ocean waters. Hi and Lo tide seemed not to even exist with the water being so nice and consistent. The water was also beautifully clear. The buffet food was good and offered a lot of variety each day/night. We skipped the dinner reservation we made at Krystal due to all of the awful reviews it was getting from others we talked to at the resort. The other restaurants offered got better reviews, but we weren't able to make reservations for these even four days in advance... brutal. Lastly and by far worst was the service. I can count on one hand the number of folks we came in contact with that were genuinely nice people. The entire group at the front desk, most of the waitstaff, bartenders and reservation folks were dreadful. They made us feel as though we were always imposing on them and every encounter put them out. I went to Jamaica expecting easy going and generally happy people, especially those working in the service industry. I could not have been more wrong. I am a very friendly and gracious person and I could not have been more surprised than I was to have that constantly shut down by the off putting and aloof nature of the people here - The front desk workers were by far the worst!! Most of the guys selling things on the beach were also very rude. They would yell at us and tell us we wasted their time and we didn't support Jamaica if we didn't buy what they were selling. I don't know if this was out of frustration or desperation in not selling enough, but it was frequent and made us feel lousy for no reason. We can't and don't want to buy everything we see and I think they don't look at us tourists as people, but as a constant stream of money. So so different than I expected and have encountered in other countries. In summary, the resort location was lovely. The staff here, and also in other places we visited in Negril were not. Sad to say, but I would not go back to Jamaica because of the people.

Entertainment tip: Short drive from hotel

Rick's Cafe is a joke. You will be hounded from the moment you walk in for tips from all of the cliff divers from across the way and they will say horrible things to you and make you feel like they will come after you if you do not throw tip money down to them after a dive. The food was also not good and service was deplorable.

Worth the price

Overall this was a great vacation worth the price, landed in montego bay with zero problems, made it thru customs and before we knew it on the way to the resort. Once arriving at the resort we had a quick and easy check in and went straight to our room. Our ocean front room was on the first floor and we enjoyed the views, The location is pretty good, wonderful location on the beach, beautiful views, everything was wonderful. Only complaint about our room was the musty smell but after a few minutes with the air on and fans going the smell went away. the staff was friendly and warm and receptive for the most part. the entertainment staff tried their best to keep the guest entertained. Only complaint we would have is the constant vendors walking up and down the beach but a simply no thank you was all that was needed, would we go to negril again YES, back to this resort maybe not as we would like to see other resorts and what they have to offer. As far as the food on the resort would go, the buffet was acceptable but we felt this could have been better but it is on par with other resorts we have been to in the past.

wonderful vacation

All in all, everything was very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful; the rooms were comfortable and clean; the beach and pool were very good. As for Food, we had mixed experiences. The buffets were plenitiful and of good quality. Our resturante experiences left room for improvement as to the quality of the food. Some parts were quite good and some were quite bad.

Wonderful relaxing spring break!

The hotel was clean, the food was fine - the cuisine choices one had were outstanding. The staff of the hotel truly tried to make your stay enjoyable! The pools, at times, became a bit crowded, but it was Easter break week, so the number of children and teenagers around was perhaps more than usual.

Immediately upon arrival, should you choose one of the restaurants on the resort, you need to make a reservation! Since our stay was short, the restaurants were entirely booked for the week, before we even had a chance to attempt to book a reservation.
