Overview

The Riu Palace Tropical Bay hotel is an all inclusive luxury Jamaican resort based in Negril. Designed with colonial-Victorian flourishes, there's an old -fashioned, time-honored charm here, framed by the Caribbean Sea to one side and verdant tropical gardens to the other. Private balconies are the order of the day in every room, while Riu hotels are known for their activity programme, from volleyball on the beach to snorkelling beneath the waves. Little ones can run riot at the beachfront playground and after bedtime, parents can take advantage of the hotel s childcare and check local island grooves at the Pacha nightclub.

Neighborhood

The Riu Tropical Bay is located on Jamaica's west coast, just north of the center of Negril, a popular resort town with a good mix of quiet clifftops and busy seafront atmosphere. Just around the coast from Kool Runnings Waterpark, the hotel nestles in the middle of Bloody Bay Beach and you can try your hand at parasailing here for unrivalled views though its morbid name stems from the old whaling trade, it s disarmingly picturesque.

Great location, food is a bit of a downer

Would recommend Wed, Dec 2, 2015
The beach is awesome! The hotel is pretty standard for a Riu Palace (we've been to 5 others), but the buffet food was a bit lower than usual.

Good hotel. Problem with visa use.

Would recommend Mon, Nov 23, 2015
Stay was good. Clean, good food staff very polite and helpful. Only problem had was went to use my visa and got rejected. I thought it was from my end and when I contacted visa they said they had accepted the transaction and it was rejected from the hotel gift and beach shop. Visa had no idea why it was not accepted at their end so I went to the stores and they couldn't give me any answered and the manager was not there that day. Good thing I had cash on me.

Beautiful resort- Staff was not so great

Would not recommend Mon, Sep 28, 2015
While the grounds, room and food were well worth the money the staff was not very friendly over all. There where a couple that were just down right rude esp. in the bar area. The one gentleman actually refused to serve us an when I told someone about it, a woman there pulled me aside and explained that some native Jamaican's do like Americans. Whatever, if that's how he felt, what do I care, still not expectable but I wont let that ruin my vacation. What really ticked me off was our safe was broken and I always leave behind in the room a (less desired) credit card on vacation incase I lose my wallet, get mugged, whatever while I'm out, I came back to my room on my last day there and noticed my luggage partially un-zipped which I though was odd, since I know I zipped it all the way close, so I checked to make sure everything was there and it was. Not even 48 hours after check out I had fraudulent charges on a credit card that hadn't been used in 8 months from Jamaica. Manager stated No usually activity to my room via card entrance was noticed That was there response

BEST RIU IN JAMAICA! loved it because it had the best food and the best beach overall and the employees went above and beyond! only negative is that there are no elevators, so it was difficult for my mom who walks with a cane.

Lacked daily activities, needs to be more lively with music... When I've stayed at other RUIs I feel they were more interactive and fun. Feel like most staff were kind of rude or not very friendly. But the few that were made up for it. Staff just goes in the room without knocking assuming people aren't in there! Happened like 3 times and we were only there 5 days. The buffet is delicious. Not bad but not great.

Buffett Buffett Buffett.

Would recommend Wed, Jun 24, 2015
The resort was incredibly clean. Staff were very courteous. I did have problems getting drinks during an evening show. The waitress took our order and never came back. I flagged down a manager who came over and sent someone else to get our drinks who came with them about 20 minutes later. This was the only bad experience I had at this resort. The Buffett was well above average and the service there was outstanding. We did the onsite scuba introduction coarse that ended up later in the day being 40 feet down on a reef. Awesome!! I went on the trip with my 18 year old daughter. My daughter especially loved the scuba diving. Now we are working on our deep see PADI certification. We also took the catamaran trip to Ricks Café. This was an awesome trip well worth the money. the sights on the way there were amazing. We stopped and did some snorkeling. Then we went to Rick's and did some cliff jumping. Notice I did not say diving. The cliff jumping was plenty for my daughter an I. The only thing I did not like is that there was no shuttle to the sister resort a mile away. After dark it is not safe to walk the beach back and forth so we paid for a cab. I must have been asked 500 times if I wanted some weed by beach peddlers, cabbies and every local. This did peak my daughters interest so we toured a pot plantation.
