Sat by the pool all day enjoying the beautiful views. [...] I thought I was taking my 16 year old son to Riu Palace. It's not the hotels fault regarding my expectations. My travels have always been more sophisticated. How does one convey that with clarity when booking It was the worst trip of my life. Rude guest. Guest were rude to staff and treated the with disrespect.Once again, I will never return to that hotel chain. If I return to Jamaica I will stay at Round Hill.Sincerely,

Will stick to cruising with Royal
Upon arrival, there were multiple stops our bus made therefore a 1-1/2 hour trip turned into a 2-1/4 hour trip. This all happened after 7:30PM so we couldn't eat until 10:00PM after check-in at the hotel. There were no cafe's, restaurants, fast food, etc. on the arrival side of the terminal. The rooms had extensive mold issues. Not uncommon in a tropical area that is primarily open air. BUT the rooms were conditioned and still had mold on the mattresses and in the grout lines of all the tile. The mini-bar in the room is to be stocked every two days. Our was only half stocked when we checked in and there was no restocking after that. The beds were uncomfortable. The televisions were to be flat screens, but were old junk. This is DEFINITELY NOT a $200.00/night hotel! The food in the open air and inside eateries had fruit flies and flies all over it. The food selection was always the same as the menu never changed. There is nothing spectacular about the food. I did have a nice tenderloin fillet, but it took over an hour to get cooked rare.... The service was slow, lazy, and quite uncaring. A lot of the employees were rude (not all), and seemed to have a real morale burden in this place. There were no matches to smoke the Cuban cigars, you have to purchase a lighter at $5.00 from the gift shop that is rarely open. I will from now on stick to cruising with Royal Caribbean for the same price although you pay for your alcohol. The alcohol drinks are by far better and greater selection on beer than the Riu. Don't waste your money, go on a cruise!

Not a good place to stay
Due to the weather there ws not much to be done. I experience poor customer service, housekeeping failed to clean my room, and worst of all there were roaches in my room. Food was cold and inedible. This is putting it lightly.

Poorly kept hotel
Hotel was overbooked, staff overwhelmed, food poor and inadequate oftentimes running out completely. Drinks badly watered down, i.e diluted with lots of water. Food choices were poor and tasteless. I seemed to have contracted a stomach virus which has really spoiled my vacation. People were quite disgruntled. This is my third stay here but I can guarantee you it will be the last.

Not worth the cost!
I had a horrible experience here. The only things included are food and beverage. It is advertized that they have a free shuttle from the airport, this is not true. They state that they have WiFi, which is true but there is a fee attached to it. There also is no calling outside of the hotel, even local numbers, without paying a fee. So in my mind this is less than all-inclusive. Not only that but I came back from a business trip a few hours early so instead of arriving at noon I arrived at 9pm the evening before. I had paid for 2 people for Sat and Sun at the price of $170/night and from Mon-Wed for 1 person at $123. So when I arrived back and checked in at 9pm they didn't state anything and then asked me to either pay $93 or leave. This is at midnight. I stated that I would pay the $47 difference but that I would not pay almost $100 for 12 hours when we were checking out the very next day. The entire time I was trying to find a new reservation an employee was trying to escort me off the premises. I will never go back and will never advise anyone to come here. Would LOVE me money and wasted time back!

very bad beach
The Riu Negril, Jamaica was a bit of a disappointment overall. A long way from the airport in an uncomfortable small bus. Ride back was better in a bigger bus. The room was very musty, mildew smelling and housekeeping was a bit hit or miss. The beach was terrible, the swimming pools were well kept but very small for such a lot of people. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was pretty good. I would not go back to jamaica, had better value for money in Mexico and the beaches were much nicer.

Our stay in Negril Jamaica
When we walked into the hotel I was stunned by how beautiful the lobby was. On Orbitz we had upgraded our room, so we expected to have a Beach view room. The first room they took us to was already occupied. Then they said the Beachview rooms are double beds. We had thought it was a choice between the 2 double beds and a king from how Orbitz described it. Then we found out the beach view is a obstructed partial view from way in the back. Because they originally took us to the occupied room they up-graded us to the beachfront room. The view was exquisite! The staff are all friendly and helpful. The only bad part was the food. It's terrible - watered down. By the end of our trip we dreaded going to any of the restraunts in the hotel. Honestly, other then the horrible food - our stay was great! Orbitz does need to clarify the room situation on their site though.

Would not stay here again...
Our biggest complaint about this property was that they TURN OFF THE AIR CONDITIONING TO ALL ROOMS DAILY! They hotel claims they turn off the air to 'save their generator' between noon and 6pm, when in all honestly, the rooms are boiling from 6am-6pm. Housekeeping was not to par either. You might get fresh towels if you were lucky and we never got more shampoo/body wash after the first day (we stayed seven nights!) Even leaving a tip everyday didn't do the trick. Frustrating. The food is nothing to write home about and we were served raw food twice. Once at the steakhouse (our shrimp skewers were still grey) and once at the brazillian restaurant (the turkey was still pink!). You also have to stand in line at 8:30am every morning for reservations if you don't want to eat at the buffet. We had no problem with this procedure and hardly had to wait more than 15 mins in line. The restaurants are SMALL! Sir Andrew holds 40 people and the hotel houses over 2000 guests! Some nights a wedding party took up all the seats and no other guests could eat there! So basically all week we lived on cardboard pizza and chips and guacamole. (The jerk chicken hut on the beach was amazing...if you got there in time. He's open from 12-3, but once he 'runs out', that's it. The one day we got there at 1:45 and he was already done.) The beach is ok. Enough chairs, but dangers lurk in the water. Spiked sea urchins are right up within ten feet of the shore. People were limping around left and right. Those are not fun to step on! The walk down the beach is great. You can walk for about thirty minutes and see other resorts and vendors. We did several excursions. Horsebacking riding in the ocean was great. The Black River/YS Falls/Appleton Rum Factory was a good tour, but made for a very long day....the ride back was 2.5 hours. Overall, we did not let the bumps in the road at this hotel ruin our trip. Would we ever stay at this hotel again? Absolutely not.

The Riu Neril is all talk!!!!!
the moment I arrived I was satisfied to see the hotel. Once I was taken to the room I gave the bell man a tip and after he left I realized there were NO FACE towels in the room, so that we could take a shower after the long journey from Montigo Bay airport. I tried to place a call to the front desk and realized my phone was not working. I then took the long walk back to the front desk to let them know about the problem with the phone and towels. Our hand towels NEVER got there and the PHONE WAS NOT FIXED so I could not call back to tell them we had not received anything, we eventually showered with large rough hand towels. On the way to dinner we stopped at the front desk to let them know room 1204 still had no phone or face towels. The next day housekeeping placed the face towels when the cleaned the room but the phone was not FIXED so for the SECOND day I was back at the front desk COMPLAINING about not having a working phone so that we could call about our activities form the room and not have to stand at the front desk to use the phone. It was 2pm and I had to place a phone call about ATV riding, the phone was still not replaced so I had to go to the front desk to place the call when [...] allowed me to use the phone. My worst fear happened and I was placed on hold where I had to stand in the lobby of the hotel for over 45 minutes on hold and sweating instead of in the confine of my room where I should be placing this phone call, but because my phone was still not fixed after three complaints I had to. That night our toilet bowl was diagnosed by housekeeping as broken from faulty instruments from the inside of the bowl, not by any overloading of sorts. but before that it took my girlfriend and I three trips to the front desk over the course of an hour while our room was filling up with toilet water all the way to the balcony. We would have CALLED BUT BY THE END OF THE SECOND DAY OUR PHONE WAS STILL NOT WORKING. We insisted we have a new room after housekeeping diagnosed out toilet as broken and could not be fixed until tomorrow. But for THIRTY minutes front desk urged us to keep the room and to operate the toilet by shutting the water off and on by hand from the back of the bowl until it was fixed the next day. Earlier that day I killed a roach as it came from behind the toilet. After my girlfriend convinced management to switch our rooms they took us from our king sized bedroom with a hillside view to our corner bedroom with a garden view and two single mattress pushed together to represent a king sized bed which my girlfriend and I kept falling through the middle because of the split in the middle of the bed VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. By dinner time I realized the room had no iron. This phone worked so I called the front desk to bring the iron. It took them two hours. I ended up going out wrinkled and the iron was placed in the room by the time we got back from dinner. Throughout this whole stay the staff kept a real nonchalant attitude and really showed no since of urgency AT ALL. That fourth night we went to Ocho Rios just to get away from the hotel. On the 23rd a OFFICIAL COMPLAINT was written by myself on how the things that transpired were unacceptable and how I spent OVER A QUARTER of my vacation complaining and trying to solve problems. None of these things had to happen in the manner which they did, THEY WERE THINGS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN CORRECTED EASILY. There was never a long line I had to wait in to talk to someone at the front desk. They were not busy or swamped in any untypical manner so there should have not been any good reason for the neglect of us that week. I never had a problem talking to the staff its that they just would not act with any sense of urgency because the things we requested were the things we needed to have in order to have a good stay. The towels, room phone, working toilet, iron, real king bed which I paid for not TWO SINGLE BEDS pushed together would be essentia...

Short drive from hotel
A must do is the sweet and spicy restaurant for some real Jamaican food. It was better than the hotel's food and everyone on the island goes there to eat. If that place was in the states I would eat there often. Make sure you get enough Jamaican money when you get off the plane because every place has a different exchange rate and it will confuse you.

RIU Club Negril
The food was terrible, except for the Jerk Hut, but other than that bugs on the food. Plus simple things like hamburgers and hot dogs they couldn't do right. There were roaches in the rooms and the bed was uncomfortable. The drinks were weak unless you tipped but my tip was already included in the package. Plus the resort beach has people harrasing you all day to buy stuff from them. I dont mind someone trying to make money but it is just harrasment. On the upside the people working for the Resort were very nice and the shows at night were very good. Improve the food and make the beach a little more private and then this place would be great.
