Not that great
The service was very good. However, the resort is quite small for Riu and the beach was definitely not white sand and not clean as stated on the website. There were very few restaurants to choose from and no 24 hr snack place to eat.

A great get away!!!
This was my first time out of the country and I must say that I loved every minute of it. The resort was very beautiful. The staff were extra friendly. The room was very nice. I enjoyed the free mini bar in the room as well as having my meals and alcohol included in my rate. My room was a whopping 2 minutes from the ocean front. I had an oceanview room which overlooked a beautiful sandy white beach, clear blue water, and of course a bar. The food was exquisite. Even the staff that scheudled our excursions out in the community were very friendly and insightful. I hooked up with the taxi service at the resort. My cab driver was very nice and we used him for the entire trip. The only downside I would have to say is that I saw a total of 3 small roaches in my room. So of course I made sure everything was shaken out before leaving. Also, calling the frontdesk became tiring. I called about my cable that they never fixed and requested for an iron at least four times before they got it to me. Also, late at night they would not answer the phone when I called for wake up service. Other than those small things, my experience was great!!!

Short drive from hotel
The locals swear by Sweet Spice restaurant. I was not impressed. Also, the "World Famous" Ricks Cafe...I surely was not impressed with the food or the service. Also, we used american money, just know how to convert your money because I am sure you do not want a million Jamaican dollars on the way back.

More and less than we expected
It's been 7 months since we stayed here which gives some time to be dispassionate with my review. We arrived on Christmas eve. we asked for top floor and not too close to the road. We were told they were overbooked and could make no changes--- bottom floor and closest to the road as possible was our room. Later our maid confirmed my suspicion, they were not even 3/4 full. Still rooms vacant at our price level. The front desk aside the rest of the staff were very nice and some even genuinely friendly. This was better than I expected from hearing others' experiences with jamaican staff. The food was very nice and they really outdid themselves on New Years eve. Our real complaints with this hotel were two things they can't change. They (along with many hotels in this area) are right on the main road. There is a lot of noise to the rooms that are on the ends of the buildings facing the road. Second , and even more important to us, the beach appears to not be natural. Rather it looks as though a lot of sand was leveled out at water's edge and then planted with trees. There is NO sand North of the hotel property. The sand is firm and as soon as you walk into the water you are in a muddy bottom. We later chose to take a cab down to the REAL beach and spent 2 beautiful days on it. We were disappointed with the beach and the room we were assigned (my wife was not up for a battle to change rooms)it had plenty of road noise but otherwise the hotel and the food were very nice.

Cruisemon
Will stick to cruising with Royal
Upon arrival, there were multiple stops our bus made therefore a 1-1/2 hour trip turned into a 2-1/4 hour trip. This all happened after 7:30PM so we couldn't eat until 10:00PM after check-in at the hotel. There were no cafe's, restaurants, fast food, etc. on the arrival side of the terminal. The rooms had extensive mold issues. Not uncommon in a tropical area that is primarily open air. BUT the rooms were conditioned and still had mold on the mattresses and in the grout lines of all the tile. The mini-bar in the room is to be stocked every two days. Our was only half stocked when we checked in and there was no restocking after that. The beds were uncomfortable. The televisions were to be flat screens, but were old junk. This is DEFINITELY NOT a $200.00/night hotel! The food in the open air and inside eateries had fruit flies and flies all over it. The food selection was always the same as the menu never changed. There is nothing spectacular about the food. I did have a nice tenderloin fillet, but it took over an hour to get cooked rare.... The service was slow, lazy, and quite uncaring. A lot of the employees were rude (not all), and seemed to have a real morale burden in this place. There were no matches to smoke the Cuban cigars, you have to purchase a lighter at $5.00 from the gift shop that is rarely open. I will from now on stick to cruising with Royal Caribbean for the same price although you pay for your alcohol. The alcohol drinks are by far better and greater selection on beer than the Riu. Don't waste your money, go on a cruise!

not worth the price
Hotel was not very clean. the mini bar had no snacks just drinks that were refilled every other day. beach was dirty & so was the beach water. Green Island was the only good place to eat. Lunch at Shadows was horrible & too many flies on food. had to wait forever for beach towels. Wifi only in lobby. Not enough to do during the days. Nothing for kids to do..they didnt even fill the kiddie pool. They would spray bug spray twice a day while wearing gas masks but they didnt care that we were all around. no room service..ugh..dance club was small and boring. i could go on and on. just go to montego bay..this place is too far for what they offer. was really looking forward to this trip and was very disappointed. you had to go at 8am to make dinner reservations..crazy..
