Great Staff

This was a destination party event for a group of about 30. We stayed 4 nights. Overall, the staff and facilities at the Ritz-Carlton provided an exceptionally fine experience. For every problem, there was a relatively painless solution coming from staff who genuinely cared about making your stay as enjoyable as possible. That said, there were some glitches, caused by the fact that the staff was stretched beyond the limits by having taken on an additional 100 guests from another hotel which had "overbooked" (as we were told) by 400. The additional guests caused a short delay in having rooms ready upon arrival and overtaxed some of the facilities, largely because many of the "extra" guests were children out of school on winter break and not in a mood to be compatible with the atmosphere which the Ritz tries to project (fun, but refined). Management sacrificed a good bit of what it would typically sell by way of atmosphere for the additional room rental. Most of the kids were gone by the last day or so, and the Ritz returned to the state of calm that it naturally wants to be, punctuated by attentive staff and surprisingly good food. You probably will not leave the premises except to play golf or to shop down the street at Shoppes at Rose Hall (OK for jewelry shopping and trinkets - nothing else). On premises snorkeling is not very good, and no self-captaining of the Hobie Cats was allowed. There is (only) one large pool, which is susceptible to being overtaken by a swarm of kids. But the staff is wonderful! Prices were - well, what you would expect at the Ritz. So, if you are cost-conscious, this place is not for you. Instead, go to one of the many other, newer resort locations in Jamaica for a better value, but you will likely have to travel a bit to get there. The Ritz is relatively close to the airport at Montego Bay. We had previously stayed at the Grand Bahai when it was still under construction at a great value - better beach, better pool, better snorkeling, better water craft - but in a less luxurious atmosphere and with far less attentive staff. Did I mention that the staff at the Ritz-Carlton was wonderful? The facility is very well maintained but any property near an ocean needs constant fix-up. If you started to look around for electrical fixtures which needed fixing or places to do touch-up painting, you could find it, but nothing that was terribly noticeable, and the friendly, helpful staff more than compensated.

A great trip

We had a wonderful time at the Ritz. My only complaint is that you allow children in the bar area. As late as 11:00 PM. They are running around, they are very loud and ruin the atmospher of a very nice adult lounge

Very nice place to retreat - reflect

This was a time for personal renewal - I spent most of my mornings & afternoons reading by the poolside . . . I went off campus several times for dinner -I do feel the rooms were over priced - I was somewhat dissapointed in the room - I reserved a ocean front and had to look sideway to see - of course, I received a room change . . . and it was still on the end- well the prices are too high not to have first class - the small things such as; ice buckets need to be replaced or include plastic liners - my overall experience was great! - the food was good - the morning buffets need a little more variety -

5 Stars for sure

This place is lovely, and the people who work there are all great-- friendly and helpful. My husband and I had a wonderful time. The property is lovely and can certainly provide entertainment for a week. The food is pricey though, and cabs are too. So, I recommend getting a meal plan. Say "hi" to [...] for us. :)

Great get away in MoBay, Jamaica!

We were greeted professionally, We were genuinely welcomed and wanted as a customer. We went off grounds to visit family and places. We did not get a mint on our pillow each nite but the fact that we were recognized without a little paper bracelet was priceless.

Check in at the hotel at the airport, so that they know your name, and can call you by it. They bounce with the flow but it is soooooo cool.

Jamaican Paradise

Fantastic facility! Looking for R&R and found it. I had heard about the rocky surf, but the beach was sandy and nice. It was rocky 5-10 feet out, but with water shoes, the surf was fine. I would highly recommend the Escape to Luxury Package. We did not get sick of any of the three main restaurants on the property during our 5-day stay. The staff was extremely friendly (beyond my expectation), other than one poolside bartender who copped a major attitude when after waiting patiently for 5 minutes I interrupted her personal conversation with the cook to get service. I can see, however, that some of the rudeness of the other guests may wear on the staff. There was a wedding party at the facility that was not very respectful of the staff or the other guests. The staff had to repeatedly tell many to stop smoking at the pool (one could apparently smoke on the beach) and to turn down their ipod stereos. At times, the conduct of these other guests bordered on what you might find at one of the lesser all-inclusive outfits in the Caribbean and not the Ritz-Carlton. In total, however, the hotel was fantastic, the food and service were great and the night-time entertainment (mostly jazz piano) was spectacular. I would highly recommend.
