Much Needed Getaway at Great Price

It was an all inclusive girls trip (just 2 of us) to relax and regroup. The first night there, we had a room with 1 bed so we asked to be moved to a room with 2 which caused us to lose half a day the next day while we waited for a room. A bit of a pain but after that was resolved, the rest of the visit was great. The staff from the concierge to the bartenders were awesome. The festivities were "cute", food was pretty good and the spa services and beach was very relaxing. The rooms are a little dated but I didn't mind it. I definitely recommend trying one of the on-site restaurants and a day trip to Negril or elsewhere. Our onsite lady with JTL tours was the BEST! The only other thing I was confused about were the supposed included non-motorized sports; snorkeling cost which didn't make sense. And I wish they had free wi-fi. However, for my first visit to Jamaica, it was a pleasant one that has definitely made me want to return...sooner rather than later!

Better the 2nd time!

This was our 2nd time at the resort. This time because of the weather, we were at the resort 90% of our stay. We participated in many resort activities, which were more fun than we expected. We are looking forward to visiting again!

If you want to shop, there are days when the market comes to the resort. Be sure to bargain with them; you can usually get a better price than what they are asking.

Great last minute Ggetaway

The hotel was nice and clean. The staff were GREAT, very pleasant and helpful. There are a few drawbacks, the cats that roam the buffet area at night and Wi-Fi not accessible in the rooms and overpriced. Other from that i would reccomend this hotel.

Girls Trip

A friend and I stayed at this resort for 10 days and we felt right at home! We were there for Hurricane Sandy and the hotel staff and management kept us informed and well taken care of the whole day and a half of the storm. They even moved people from other resorts to stay at Sunset Beach because they would be more safe staying there then where they were! The food and drinks are good, many different choices. Must try the Silk Road Asian A la carte restaurant!! I will stay here again on another trip to Jamaica!!

Shop off of the "Hip Strip" for better bargaining deals. Be prepared to get haggled if you are shopping in the Montego Bay craft markets....

Ok Trip

First let me say that the Sunset Beach resort was very very clean. The rooms were nice and very clean also. Beds were comfortable. Visit May 16-23rd. It is the rainy season so we had some rain with a lot of overcast days. But all in all, the weather wasnt too bad. I would never go to the carribean again in May. The beach was so so. Not very good sand and a lot of seaweed and reef for snorkeling. We did not snorkel. Make sure you either pre-purchase your transportation to and from the airport. The taxi's are ridiculously high. Or you can purchase a round trip shuttle at one of the transportation desks when you land at the airport.. The shuttles are fine and have air conditioning. Otherwise taxi's will cost you a lot more about $60 roundtrip. This resort is in the middle of nowhere. There are no shops or restaurants nearby. there are two small shops in the hotel however. I felt prices for souvenirs and beach wraps were very high everywhere. If you wish to go shopping at the Hip Strip which is about 4 miles away it will cost you about $40. Ridiculous I know. Taxis to anywhere were high high high. We did pay $10 per person roundtrip for a shopping trip but they only took us to two small stores that were theirs and the flea market. The flea market was horrible. I go to Mexico all the time and I have never been grabbed by the vendors. The women actually grabbed your arm to try and get you to come into their little closet of goods. They were just as expensive as some of the shops. Bought a beach wrap and couldnt get out of there fast enough. As far as the resort, there really isnt any good entertainment. Activities started way too late and we were always in our room ready for bed. I will say they did have a jamaican steel drum band that was very good. Also, the BBQ night on Tuesday was pretty good. Also, dont forget to make your dinner reservations at the Asian and Italian restaurants. They had pretty good food. They let you make reservations two days out. Otherwise they fill up early and you will miss out. Forget the carribean restaurant. You can get that food at the buffet. the casino is a joke. There were about 6-8 semi-working quarter machines that never paid out anything. You can purchase a 40 minutes phone card for $5 to call home at the exchange office. The phones are located in back of the resort adjacent to the big pool. So our trip was ok. I would not go back to this particular all-inclusive and montego bay was not impressive. I might try Negril in the future.

Great home base for our mission work.

This resort met 98% of our expectations for a vacation resort for individuals and for families. It also met our needs when we wanted to relax after a day of mission work in the community. The staff was very helpful, friendly, and considerate. The food was great! This year we really enjoyed our special dinner for repeaters.
