Good, but not stellar

The facility is lovely and the rooms clean. There were a few minor nitpicks that kept it from being great: - The hours of various facilities were strange, such as the pools, hot tubs, and some bars closing at five then reopening at eleven? It seemed arbitrary. - Beach towels were scarce and require a card to reserve one. Lose the towel and you're out $20. I've never seen that at an all-inclusive before. We weren't actually able to get one until well into our second day there. But those are pretty minor. The staff was excellent, particularly the entertainment. The beach is gorgeous and the food was varied.

Don't pay full price for anything, negotiation is always built into the sticker price.

Royal Decameron

Nice hotel, right on the beach with plenty to do at and around the resort. We got a garden view room, wasnt the greatest hotel room but we had a decent bed and overall wasnt dirty and bugfree.

Excellent Relaxation

Had an excellent time. Menu could have included more selections for traditional food along with the wonderful Jamaican food but other than that the food was all good. Great scenery, clean rooms and the staff was excellent. Everyone was friendly and wiling to help.

Second guessing coming back....

Food @ buffet wasn't that good. Tried eating @ the a la carte restaraunt which was better. Staff @ front desk was awful & not helpful!!!! Rest of staff was fine. Not too much to do though. Snorkeling was probably the best part of the trip & was cheap. There waS a tad too much garbage floating in the water & the resort isn't right ON a beach. Theres a slight boardwalk which I dont know why its there??? I think I might stick to Aruba, Jamaica was dirty.

Great Value - But Pack Your Patience

First, let me address the positives of this resort: 1. It’s five minutes from the airport. 2. The location is beautiful and it has very nice beaches. May others (Sandals) close-by have no beaches at all. 3. Lots of lounge chairs and places to relax. 4. Strong drinks and good island food. 5. Most (if not all) rooms have a view of the ocean. 6. The price. Now let me point out the negatives: 1. The pool entertainment is LOUD and the “quiet” pool is nearby, so it really isn’t “quiet.” 2. The nightclubs are LOUD – so loud that the windows of our room (107) shook until well after midnight. Bring earplugs. 3. The staff (with the exception of the greeter) are very slow. I understand that the culture is laid back but nothing happens quickly – from getting a drink to getting a room. 4. The staff at the activities desk are just plain rude. One of them even cursed at my husband when he tried to get a life vest (my husband didn’t know that you had to sign it out separately from the snorkeling equipment). All in all, for the price it was a good resort and great for a long weekend retreat.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

The Hip Strip is nearby, but the prices are crazy unless you haggle. $18 for sunscreen, $18 for travel coffee mugs, etc.

Moved to Runaway Bay Decameron

The Montego Bay hotel is a good bargain for the money. But, at midweek we found a flyer under our room door offering a change to the Decameron at Runaway Beach, on the North side of the island, for no additional charge. We accepted and were better pleased with the amenities at Runaway beach. Food in both places was the same, 3 stars level. But ocean, pools, and rooms nicer at Runaway. Our room faced the ocean with the pounding surf. Lovely.

Holiday Getaway

This was an upgrade to a hotel we stayed at in Negril! Hotel lobby and dining room is beautiful with a great view of the water. Room amenities were pretty basic but had a great view of the resort grounds. Entertainment staff was excellent - always encouraging you to participate in afternoon beach activities and dance on stage with them during evening shows.
