The RIU

It was a fair stay compared to the price we paid for 1 night. The bellman took for ever bringing our luggage to the room. After 12midnight there wasn't much to do because just about everything shutdown! But I believe after staying at the Grand Palladium for 4 days we were spoiled by their services!

My Wonderful Vacation!

We had a wonderful vacation for my first time in Jamaica! You must try the ATV tour and the Cool Runnings tours. They were both a lot of fun and adventurous! I wish that I would have stayed a few more days. Four days is NOT enough time! The food wasn't that great but overall the resort was nice. The staff were great!

Loved MoBay, not this resort

This my first time in Jamaica and I loved it! Hotel was beautiful and pretty big. Just a few things that were disappointing: 1)Food was sub par. Many people will say this can be expected at an all-inclusive but I've had great food at other AI resorts. Even the pizza was bad. Only redeeming food there was the jerk chicken shack on the beach. Food was delicious. Italian restaurant was alright. We didn't try the Chinese restaurant (because of negative reviews on other sites) and didn't have time to try the steak place. 2. Rooms were nice but the tub is very odd. It's narrow and the sides are very rounded, so slipping is very possible. My roommate slipped at least twice and I saw a lot of people in wheel chairs with wrapped ankles. Don't know if it was from the tub, but wouldn't be surprised. 3. All of the staff are awesome! Very friendly and helpful. They made up for what was lacking in the rooms/food. 4. Entertainment was amazing. There is a cuban band once a week on TropicalLatino night, they sounded really good. There is also a steel band with a bunch of extremely talented dancers. Both worth checking out. The night club was a little blah. There was only one bartender, so service was extremely slow. The club overall was very tiny. All in all, good trip. Mostly because we spent some time at local reggae clubs, instead of the resort. If you like to relax and aren't a food snob, you'd enjoy this place.

Nightlife tip: Short drive from hotel

Check out Blue Beat and Margaritaville. They are a short drive from the hotel, which provides a free shuttle. Blue beat usually gets good around midnight. Margaritaville has a live reggae band on the roof. They were INCREDIBLE. Definitely pre-game before you go. The drinks are expensive, weak and small. There's also a jerk chicken stand by both of these clubs, absolutely delicious. Just what you need at 2 am. :)

Mixed review

We had a large group for a wedding celebration. The front desk staff were not very helpful in organizing large group meals - but the staff at the restaurants went out of their way to be helpful. Food was okay, but you needed to look to find freshly prepared items - mostly standard buffet foods. The staff were not responsive to lost luggage, non-working keys and plugged toilets (which were common complaints). Beach and pool were nice - except for our last day when a loud, obnoxious party arrived. I was glad to be leaving.

Arrive early for the beachfront jerk chicken lunch. They often run out of the side dishes. The chicken is very good.

Just OK

The hotel was about 5 mintues from the airport so quick to get to but you also hear planes flying overhead all day. It was clean, well kept. We were disappointed with the beaches, there wasn't enough sand and the water was protected by a reef so no waves but it was cloudy water and seaweed everywhere. The pool is big enough. The hotel needs more than a little hut to entertain the little ones. Food was not great but what all-inclusive is? The a-la-carte restaurants were only "semi" and you had to make reservations days in advance and they were not as good (may even be the same food from the buffet) as the buffet. Not enough fruits selections or desserts. Overall, we would not go back.

Reserve your a-la-carte reservations as soon as you arrive. Take your luggage with you to your room when you arrive instead of waiting for bell hop.

riu montego bay 2011

The resort itself was very nice. Lots of bars, beautiful beach, lots of food. However, the staff was very uninviting and seemed like they did not want to be there. We didn't see anyone even smile for the first three days. The food was not very good either, very average at best. Be sure to bring your own cups for the hotel bars or else you will be served in dixie cups. The shows at night were quite entertaining. Buy your rum and coffee at the airport duty free, much cheaper and much fresher

Bday party in Jamaica

- We did a lot of sunbathing and drinking! We also went to Dunn's River Falls in Ochos Rios and Negril. - Food is really my only complaint. This was my first at an all inclusive and the food was just blah. Bland and didn't taste good. I was pretty sad about that.

Go to the Pork Pit for some good Jamaican food! It was delicious! Not only will you have some local food, but you'll get a break from the disappointing food at the hotel.

Bday Party in Jamaica

- We mainly sunbathed and enjoyed the free drinks! We also went to the Dunn's River Falls in Ochos Rios and to Negril. - I wish they had had better food. I was disappointed with it. Breakfast was probably the best meal of the day there.

Climb the Dunn's River Falls. It was really nice out there but make time for this trip because it is over an hour and a half away from the hotel. Located in Ochos Rios.

Friends Escape from Reality

I stayed at the RIU Montego bay. I booked an ocean view room and was not satisfied with the first room I was given. The hotel moved me to an incredible room with a great view. The amenities at the RIU are great. The pool, the bars, the disco everything was great. I only have two complaints about the RIU. The first is the food. None of the food is great; not even the three that require you to make a reservation. If you're looking for great food, you won't find it at the RIU. The second complaint is that the staff doesn't make you feel as if you're special. I can't say that they were rude, but they were not overly accommodating. The staff at other resorts in Jamaica have always made me feel like they were there to make sure I had everything I needed. I just didn't feel that at the RIU: and I've been to two so far but I won't be staying at a third. Other than those two complaints, I had a great time. My wife and I were accompanied by 12 of our friends and we had a ball. Jamaica is always a good time and with good friends you can't miss.

Great Faciity, Adequate Beach, Poor Food

Overall the property was on par with other all inclusives. The grounds were well kept and the buildings/ rooms were clean. The beach real estate was lacking. Difficult to find a spot. Amazing Swimming Pool made up for the mediocre beach. Drinks were flowing non-stop. I think they wanted to keep you drunk so you didn't notice how bad the food was. I actually lost weight while on vacation. Housekeeping was slow to respond to needs. I learned to fend for myself or go without. Overall,it was a good experience. If you want a GREAT vacation, bring your own fun.
