fantastic family getaway
The Riu montego bay was a really nice resort. The only complaint I would have would be the food. Thankful for french fries, pizza, salad and desserts. Those were very good. Also, if your a beach lover may not be the best for you. The service was great and the resort very clean. Was a good vacation spot....19 and 22 year old boys loved it!

Overall, fun and pleasant. Food was okay. Constant music and activities made it hard to just relax and shut out but that is waht you get at all inclusives. Was clean and close to the airport.

Good for the money
Very close to the airport, if you don't mind a few planes flying over during the day it's a great location and short ride. The beach is a little small but enough space to walk around. The pool area is nice, enough spots for everyone it seemed. The room was well maintained, and staff friendly. Shower was another story, small, hot and cold and very low pressure. Beds were kinda hard and sheets were a little rough but didn't seem to ruin the vacation. Balcony/outside area on each room is nice. The food was great at times but not so great others. This might just be the same everywhere due to a lot of the same selection every day for each meal. If you are going be sure to make reservations for the restaurants first thing. Food there seemed to be better then the general cafeteria style at the main buffet. Grill on the beach for lunch had great chicken. We didn't use the in room bar much since you can get a drink at the bars anytime but was nice when we did. Drinks, if you don't know are small about 8oz with maybe 1 shot in them. You can certainly get as many as you "need" but we generally ordered two per person each time. Staff was not pushy, mostly educating about all options you can experience while there although we personally did nothing but enjoy the sun. I would say for the price this was a nice spot, 3 1/2 to 4 stars.

Be sure you bring a pen to fill out custom/immigration forms on the plane, this will save you a LOT of time if you are first time traveler outside the country.

Good times
I really enjoyed my stay at the riu. The food was average but good enough to eat on a daily basis. Breakfast was the best meal of the day. Making reservations at the restaurants is an annoying system because you had to have everything planned around the reservation time. For example we missed a 7pm reservation by an hour and was not allowed to eat at that restaurant and was directed back to the buffet. The alcohol was not great. Most of the drinks tasted watered down. But we still drank the entire wk. We visited the hot tub 1 day and the chemicals faded the suits. The hotel reimbursed us for the lost which made me very happy. I didn't expect them to care as much as I did but I was pleasantly surprised. Montego bay is about 1 1/2 hours from both negril and ochoa rios. A round trip in an official JUTA taxi is about $40 per person round trip. The beah on the resort is OK the water is good quality but the sand is hard and rocky. The beach in negril was great. That region appeared to be warmer. Snorkling in doctors cove was sub par and over rated. There were only a few fish. Dunns river falls is a must. Sooo pretty! The people on the island are very desperate and always want a tip or a sale. Next time im going to give out $5 or less in tips. I didn't tip any 1 on the actual resort the pressure comes from the airport luggage men and the people trying to sell something. Oh yeah, the airport is close to the resort and every plane in or out flies over the resort

If you know how to haggle. Do it. Don't let them ask you to "try out" anything. They'll do something like ask you your name then carve it in a wooden sculpture then make you buy. The people have become very crafty in forcing you to purchase things you don't want or need.

So-so Riu
We were here for a destination wedding. Beautiful location and the sun shined the whole time. Plenty of shade and sun by the pool. Beds were not too comfortable and food was so so, all buffets even the specialty restaurants were buffet. Tip…Eat well at breakfast and find the shrimp, muscles and curried chicken the rest of the time or the Jerk chicken on the beach was also good. Glad we did not stay a week as the food selection was very much the same each night. The wedding planner should have put all the guests in the same building and there should have been a letter of some sort for all the guests explaining where others were staying, when and where the wedding was, etc. I also think they should have upgraded the room for the bride and groom as they had to move rooms because of bugs and another in our party had to move due to a flood and they were upgraded to a beachfront suite. Bride and grooms should be treated special and the company should have gone out of their way for them but did not and nickel and dimed them to death for little things like extra bottles of champagne. The catamaran sail cruise was fun. Hotel was beautiful as was the pool. Entertainment was less than desirable. Band was good but the shows were lip singing to movies with an awful sound system. Had to walk away. Also would be nice to have coffee maker in the rooms. Don't think I would go back here..

Beautiful place and friendly staff
While this is a large resort it is a well laid out property so getting from one activity to another is not tiring. The staff is always sweeping, picking up, mopping and helpful.
