Third time Tracy
Third time in MoBay
Third visit to the Island nation as well as to this resort, food and drink were plentiful, the staff is always friendly and accommodating. When we arrived after a long day of travel our room was not ready. We ended up in a room that was a step down from what we paid for, but the next day as promised, we were moved into an ocean-view room that was freshly cleaned and cool from air-conditioning which was needed the entire trip. It was overcast for the first 3 days and the ocean was quite chilly, but on the 4th day of our trip we caught a break, the sun began to shine and the water was much warmer. We snorkeled on site, actually fed the fish, they swam right up to us and nibbled our fingers in search of food. We traveled to Negril for a 10-hour trip which included a stop at 7-Mile beach and Rick's Cafe to watch the cliff divers (great day) and also to Dunn's River waterfall/rock climbing (even better day), I'm actually still a little sore from the climbing. We ate Jamaican meat patties, enough chicken (Jerk and curry) to fill a coop, and countless libations. We shopped across the street at the Straw Market as well as at the outdoor Duty Free Shops in Negril. I can say that the drinks have gone up significantly at Margaritaville (MoBay), I guess they have to make their money somehow. I much prefer Jamaica to the Bahamas; value, variety of things to do, water is much calmer.

Short drive from hotel
Seek out a cab driver, ask him to take you to the parts of the island that aren't typical tourist traps for an authentic experience. Ask him to take you to where he lives, where he shops and hangs out when he's not working. We wanted to immerse ourselves in true Jamaican life, see how the people are living.

Awesome Group Getaway
If you can make it past "Check-in," you will be just fine! I, along with 11 of my friends traveled to Montego Bay from New Jersey, USA to celebrate my one of my friend's 30th birthday. We had an awesome time. Not only were there things to do on the resort all day (trivia, pool games, etc.) & and night (live music, karaoke, etc.), but the hotel also provided a nightly shuttle to the "Hip Strip" where there is a Margaritaville along with some other clubs. The food was also great. If you love Carribean food, the buffet has a wide variety of fresh selections. However, if you want a bit more exclusivity, you can make reservations at the a la carte restaurants. My only caution with these reservations is to: BOOK EARLY & BE ON TIME! This is my 2nd time at the resort. I was so willing to convince such a large group of people to stay here, because for $634 (roundtrip airfaire, hotel stay, travel insurance) you can't beat this resort by far. The best advise I can give is to keep in mind when reading some of the negative reviews, what your actual interests are. My friends and I traveled to Montego Bay and chose Holiday Inn Sunspree solely to eat, drink, party, and be merry. We therefore had no concern for any noise levels (since we were the ones usually making the most noise), how comfortable the beds were (since we had no intentions of being in the room), or how long we had to wait in line to check-in (since the free drinks begin flowing as soon as you step foot on the resort). This resort has something for everyone. I'd stay again if I had to.

Money-saving tip:
Not Applicable
Although tipping is "forbidden" on the resort. If you toss a dollar for good service every once in a while, good service becomes great! Also, Don't accept the first price any local gives, when looking to purchase something or travel somewhere. They're always willing to negotiate!

Not worth it
This is only my second all inclusive hotel we've stayed at, the other was Dreams in Mexico. We saw reviews about the reservations having to be done a day in advance, which we thought would be okay. What we didn't know, was that you could only go to the restaurants once a week each. So basically with a 1 week stay, we ate the buffet every single day for almost all our meals. The buffet didn't change much. Usually rice, potatoes, and chicken, all slight made differently each day. Some days there was hardly any kids, other days there were kids running around like crazy. Few staff members were pleasant, others never returned a smile or a hello. The guy at the water equipment area was rude to me and others. When we got there, we were told that we have a 2 twin bed room when we put in for a king size bed. Told to come back the next day to switch. Verified in the morning that it was still setup for us and come back at 3pm to finalize it. Came back at 3:30pm and was told that there was nothing available for us. We requested the manager, in which we overheard her tell the staff member to give us a room with a king size bed, that was already booked for someone else! So basically, we finally got what we ordered but it meant that someone else was getting screwed as well. Horrible in my opinion. The drinks also, were very cheap and didn't get the job done. We had to go buy beer from the gift shop to get a nice buzz. If we ever go to Jamaica again, it will definitely not be a Holiday Inn that is for certain.

Needs a little help
We were kind of taken back when we showed up at the airport in Jamaica and there wasn't a shuttle to the hotel. We got to the hotel and everything was nice with the check-in until the bellhop took us to our room. Once at our room we discovered that the room was already occupied. We then had to walk back to the front desk where they had to give us another room. When we got to our room the air condition wasn't on and it was hot as blazes in there. In the five days we stayed there we could never get the room cold enough. We called the front desk and they sent a maintenance man up to look at the unit. He said because of the vaulted ceilings and the humidity that it was just working fine. We had the thermostat on 60 the entire time! What we found most troublesome was the food. The food in the main dining hall was not good at all. Every morning you have to get up to make reservations at the hotel restaurants (other than the main dining hall) This was very frustrating. When we got to the restaurants there was empty tables everywhere and people were being turned down contently. We were not happy with the main pool area. Loud music played all day and most of the night. We found a beach about half way down the beach on the resort from the pool and still could hear the music. My wife and I were not impressed at all. We came to the conclusion that "You get what you pay for" and that is exactly it!!!

Second visit to Holiday Inn Sunspree
This was our second visit to this hotel since 2009. I think it has went downhill a little. The room was ok the food ok. The beach area is very nice. The activities and service was much better the first time we visited however. Some suggestions for the hotel... We had two families traveling together so we asked for rooms near each other, we were told they were "very close" ..NOT.. same building two floors away. Not that big a deal. The activities listed are only suggestions for the staff I think.. Rarely did any activity start on time if they did the activity at all. Again not that big a deal. Probably my biggest complaint was the air conditioning only worked fairly and the in-room refrigerator didn't work at all this was more important to us than most because we had an infant with baby bottles. Overall not that bad but will probably look for somewere else next time.
