Moderno Hotel Venice

We booked the room a month in advance and expected a small but comfortable room. WRONG!!! There is no Hotel signage except a small carboard sign stuck to the wall of a 4 foot wide alleyway. They took us down this narrow alleyway and into a building. We had to drag our luggage up this narrow spiral staircase up to the 3rd floor to our room. It was about 8 feet wide by 8 feet wide. There was a bed and a dresser, but no place to put your luggage. We refused to stay and booked another room nearby.

Please! This should be, at best, a cheap hostel for kids! We paid $160 and it's the worst imaginable! It looks NOTHING like the pictures online! First of all, the ONLY signs for this hotel are an 8.5" x 11" laminated piece of typing paper at the beginning of the alley and on the door. Our room was on the 2nd floor (out of 4). The stairs were very narrow, extremely steep and spiral. Hauling luggage up to the room was a nightmare. Since check-in is at the hotel down the road, there is no lobby at Hotel Moderno and no staff. The only saving grace was that the bed and bathroom were clean (although there was mold in the shower). The wallpaper was peeling off and the curtains were coming down. When showering, the door fell off the hinges and crashed to the floor. The ONLY good thing is the location - near the rail station - lots of restaurants and shops. But, the cost of the room, having to haul luggage up steep, spiral stairs, and the shabby room don't make even the location worthwhile. Quite the worst experience. Fortunately we only had one night there before moving to our hotel on San Marco Square. Since all of our other hotels in Italy have been wonderful, this was even more of a schock.

For its budget price - the hotel is just fine. Very small rooms, but convenient location - just few minutes from the railroad station, in a lively Strada Nouva. Reception is located in a sister hotel, just 2 buildings away from the spot. Would recommend this hotel for a very budget and short stay in Venice.

Pictures do not represent this hotel at all. The pictures are of the main hotel. Moderno is down a dark alley way and room are small dark and pokie. Covered in bites when we got home very mis-leading web site. Not happy not one bit!!!!!!!!!

Pricing seemed typical of Venice at the time we booked. The room was clean, bathroom a good size. Breakfast was good, but we didn't realise you could ask for cooked eggs! It was VERY close to the station but quite far from the heart of the city. Good place to lay your head for the night.

Good economy hotel for Venice as all what you need is a place to sleep because all day you are out. Lack of little bit entertainment at night though. Customer services need to be improved as the staff are busy with own work. Breakfast is vey bad - firstly, timings not good, not a lot choices, it starts 8 am to 9h30 but if you go by 09hoo you might not get nothing. The lady who runs the breakfast was not helpful at all. She don't care at all, take it or leave it. I think you can't afford that if you are paying a fortune, she need to understand that customers satisfaction comes first.

THe hotel room and bathroom were quite big. the bed was comfortable? Everything was clean. THe hotel is very well situated, very near the bus station, train station and the center. All receptionists spoke French and/or English and were friendly. The only problem was the small breakfast room. We had to wait every morning for someone to leave in order to have a table. One morning there were no croissants left.

Noise from the pipes woke us up, breakfast room had 30 min. queue even when you come at the moment of opening. Over prized.

Hotel location is convenient, close to train station thus we didn't need to drag luggage crosing the bridge or taking the water bus that extremely expensive. Brakfast was good the person who took care breakfast was very efficient. Only the final day of my stay that experience a long queue for breakfast seat, because all guests of the chain hotel had to eat here. I guess there're 3 - 4 hotels in the chain.
