Hotel great, but very expensive.
Tea,
Hotel great, but very expensive. Tea, coffee in room service 8 Euro, breakfast 32 euro each. With exchange rate at moment this becomes very expensive

The Danieli was a real disappointment.
The Danieli was a real disappointment. The hotel itself is a fascinating building, which is located virtually next door to St Marcs's Sq, so location is great. However.... our room overlooked the lagoon (lovely), but also looked out onto the main thoroughfare. If we shut our window shutters our room was like an oven, if we opened them it was like sleeping in the middle of Piccadilly Circus! We didn't sleep for three nights, and on day three were treated to the sound (at 3am) of scaffolding being constructed outside our window! The Terrace Restaurant was expensive and the food very average. Both our main courses were overcooked and cold. The overall cost was absolutely extortionate for what was a very average stay. Staff were OK but a bit off hand. Our advice - don't bother, there are far better hotels to enjoy.

Great, but . . .
Arrived 11:45AM, told room vacant but needed to be made-up; a process that took +3 hours. Check-in and check-out ridiculously slow and bureaucratic. Wait for a water taxi was 45 minutes. Lobby bar overpriced and service was very slow. Staff, other than front desk and lobby bar, very attentive and most helpful. Room was outstanding in terms of comfort, location, and view.

Renovated Rooms
We enjoyed a lot of things at the Hotel Danielli - the fact that we didn't have to carry luggage through Venice was a big plus - the water taxi dropped us off right at a side waterfront door, the fresh flowers everywhere, air conditioning, very helpful conscierges, free Wifi in the lobby only a very central location, and maid service 3 times a day. We wished there had been a gym and the restaurant was pretty expensive for what you got. Overall, a nice place to stay.

B+ for the Danieli
The Danieli is a beautiful place but the lobby - spectacular as it is - is a little tired. Time to redecorate! Our room was in the recently renovated annex which was excellent, but the service was not up to par for a 5 star property. The concierges were a little lazy and more intent on finishing their personal conversations than assisting guests queuing up at their desk. The rooftop restaurant is fantastic with the best view in Venice. Location is convenient but guests walk out of the deluxe calm of the lobby onto a mob of people, water taxis, vaporetto ticket booths and street vendors which isn't my idea of a 5 star experience. Next time I am going to try the Bauer Il Palazzo.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Make sure to go to one of the many small stand up bars after a long hot day of sightseeing to have a Spritz and some pre dinner appetizers. A Spritz is a Campari, soda and white wine with a lemon - very refreshing and a very Venetian thing to do
