unfriendly terrace bar staff

Would recommend Mon, May 18, 2015
Fabulous location and hotel.Reception staff could notbe nicer however the terrace bar staff were rude to us on 2 occasions.Being a resident you would presume you could have a drink up on the famous terrace! The times were very restricted, only between 3-6pm.when we did get up there at 5pm, it had been raining earlier in the day but now was sunny. We were told we couldnt go out there, not even to take photos! I know they have to save the tables for dinerd but even at 10.30pm we were not allowed. I t didnt seem very customer friendly! TeA and coffee facilities would be nice in the rooms too! I know they would prefer you to pay for it downstairs but after paying alot of money for our trip, I think they could facilitate this. Overall lovely hotel but abit more thought into what the customer might like...

Awesome location

Would recommend Mon, Apr 6, 2015
The hotel is beautifully traditional. The staff are friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The location is unrivalled, just on the grand canal and beside St Marks Square, your minutes away from everything. Couple of watch outs - If you are planning on having breakfast book in advance at checking for 30e pp otherwise its a stonking 52e pp on the day - a bit of an old fashioned policy! Also the hotel still charges (a lot for wifi)

Girly Trip

Would not recommend Wed, Feb 5, 2014
Staff at reception bit offputting. Said we needed to pay which wasn't a good start as we already had paid you.It was sorted with no apology. No hairdryer in room fridge not even on had to plug in ourself and wait for hours for it to chill not good when you wanted the champagne on arrival. We have had many trips to Venice in good hotels.Expected this hotel to be one of the best. It is an awesome sight when you walk in and very glad to have stayed there because of your deal at such an amazing price but would have been unhappy to pay full price. Had a great weekend thanks to your excellent service though.

Harrys Bar but has to be downstairs. Ambience great very busy and buzzy but also very expensive . They are a bit snobby if you haven't booked. Fabulous food.

Concierge was excellent - other staff not so friendly

Would recommend Mon, May 6, 2013
kudos to the concierge but other staff was definitely lacking. Great location and the room was extremely nice and clean. Only downside was at check-in when I felt like I was begging to get a room and was asked to wait for 30 min before I can get my room.

Da Fiore was excellent in terms of food / service was to say the least terrible. Al Covo - over-rated.. would definitely not go back.

B+ for the Danieli

Would recommend Sat, Jul 28, 2012
The Danieli is a beautiful place but the lobby - spectacular as it is - is a little tired. Time to redecorate! Our room was in the recently renovated annex which was excellent, but the service was not up to par for a 5 star property. The concierges were a little lazy and more intent on finishing their personal conversations than assisting guests queuing up at their desk. The rooftop restaurant is fantastic with the best view in Venice. Location is convenient but guests walk out of the deluxe calm of the lobby onto a mob of people, water taxis, vaporetto ticket booths and street vendors which isn't my idea of a 5 star experience. Next time I am going to try the Bauer Il Palazzo.

Make sure to go to one of the many small stand up bars after a long hot day of sightseeing to have a Spritz and some pre dinner appetizers. A Spritz is a Campari, soda and white wine with a lemon - very refreshing and a very Venetian thing to do

Not what you expect from a 5 star hotel

Would not recommend Thu, Jul 19, 2012
Location fabulous, hotel lobby out of this world but in terms of positives that’s about it. This was my 5th visit to Venice and my 4th hotel. I and my sister took my mum for her 70th birthday; we booked a room for 3. On arrival we discovered that the 3rd bed was a Zbed placed at the foot of a king sized bed. When I very quietly (not wanting to embarrass my mum) explained that my mum of 70 might have difficulties squeezing round the bed, the desk clerk was uninterested and dismissive. After being sat in the lobby for an hour, for no discernable reason, I was eventually offered an alternative room up a spiral stair case that I can only describe as staff quarters; dirty, mould on shower and smelt of damp. After refusing the room and asking to speak to the manager, I was left waiting again and had to remind the staff that I was waiting. When the manager eventually came to the desk she made it very clear that she was busy and that my complaint was an inconvenience. I asked about the cost of an upgrade and was I believe taken the proverbial out of when I was offered an upgrade at the "special discount rate" of £3000 per night. I therefore opted to stay in the original room. It took three days to get 3 bathrobes, 1 per day. At turndown chocolates left on pillow for only 2 of us. The staff were the most rude and unhelpful I have encountered in any hotel. On leaving the hotel they did not even answer to polite good mornings etc. On booking; and one of my reasons for choosing this hotel, the facilities included use of a partner hotels pool on the Lido, and hotel transport to the Lido. However, when I asked about this I was abruptly informed that they had sold this hotel 5 years ago, but if I wanted I could get a water taxi myself and ask the hotel for a bed at a cost of 120 euro per bed, but it would be up to the hotel when we got there. Overall, the location and lobby in no way compensate for the very poor service, rude staff, and unhelpful and derogatory attitude and conduct of the manager. I really do wonder how it stays in business.

Renovated Rooms

Would recommend Mon, Aug 15, 2011
We enjoyed a lot of things at the Hotel Danielli - the fact that we didn't have to carry luggage through Venice was a big plus - the water taxi dropped us off right at a side waterfront door, the fresh flowers everywhere, air conditioning, very helpful conscierges, free Wifi in the lobby only a very central location, and maid service 3 times a day. We wished there had been a gym and the restaurant was pretty expensive for what you got. Overall, a nice place to stay.

Great, but . . .

Would recommend Mon, Jun 20, 2011
Arrived 11:45AM, told room vacant but needed to be made-up; a process that took +3 hours. Check-in and check-out ridiculously slow and bureaucratic. Wait for a water taxi was 45 minutes. Lobby bar overpriced and service was very slow. Staff, other than front desk and lobby bar, very attentive and most helpful. Room was outstanding in terms of comfort, location, and view.
