The refined Hotel Gorizia "A La Valigia" enjoys a privileged location placing it among the best hotels near Piazza San Marco. The only plaza in Venice is a large area paved in stone from Istria, surrounded by the Procuratie, dominated by the height of the bell tower and by the Byzantine splendor of the basilica. two days break in Venice
The hotel is located near st. marcus square which is very convenient, the room was very small, the shower cubicle is too small for an average build person. The small breakfast place could not handle the number of guests.

New year holiday
the worst ever hotel we have ever stayed in our entire lives. Our room key (magnetic) did not work. After a long flight we were tired, but had to deal with this problem with the front desk who did not speak English. After long explanation when they understood the problem, they gave us the master key, which we had to return to the reception every time we went into our room and when we left the room too. It was the 31st Dec night, and we were in a hurry to get ready and go to dinner, and when we were doing just that, suddenly the ceiling just above the master bed started leaking, and splashing water all over the computer which was on the bed directly under the water leak! We again contacted the front desk and lost a lot of time explaining, and finally it stopped leaking. But what they said to us was that it was an ancient building and when guests from above us use the shower it may leak downstairs! What an excuse! We were so inconvenienced and wasted so much precious time. We need to be compensated and want our money back.

Great location
The hotel in general was ok. It's location is great. Finding the hotel at first was difficult, specially walking with all the luggage. The shower is very small (approx: 2' x 2' feet). The rooms are victorian style decorated. There is no variety in the breakfast, mostly bread and coffee. The wireless internet cost 8 euros.

Get exploring all the side streets for the most amazing restaurants with great atmosphere. Venice really does come alive at night. Save money by eating off St. Mark's Square and then later walk down to enjoy the atmosphere there. The restaurants in the side streets is where it's really at :)

Comfortable and Pleasant
We arrived by train at night and the hotel was a bit hard for us to find as there were no water taxis less than 50 Euro and the shops were all closing up making it difficult to find people to ask for directions. (Beware if you ask directions—everyone will say, "Just go straight. Be sure to just keep going straight!"—you will soon find there are very few "straight" passages in Venice!). However, once we finally found our way to the hotel we were warmly greeted and shown to a lovely, nicely appointed, very clean room. Breakfast, included with the price of the room, the next morning was wonderful with many choices both hot and cold. And, again, the staff present was incredibly gracious and fun to visit with. The only thing we noted was an odor in the main staircase hall, both the evening we checked in and in the morning. Otherwise, we found the hotel to be clean and very comfortable.

Beware of "cover charges" at restaurants. We were billed an extra 5 Euro at dinner for a "cover charge" in addition to the service fee for the waiter.

Location the the only plus
Booked this hotel after seeing pictures posted on the web. The rooms and facilities were nowhere near the pictures. The location however was pretty good, very close to San Marco, dining and shopping.

Fantastic place
A year ago,one of our friends, organized the cruise and 18 of us signed up.One was assigned to surf in the internet for hotels, and yours was the cheapest. We were most welcomed by the staff. The front desk Manager,[...] was very helpful.Breakfast was great not to mention the servers who spoke the same language with us.Next to the hotel was a restaurant that we loved so much. Most of the employees were from our country, too. They pampered us with special service.Overall, everything was great.I would definetly recommend to friends.
