Excellent location

The hotel is not beautiful, but for the time we spent in the actual room, it's worth your money. You cannot beat the location, it's directly accross the train station. Right off the station, make a right take the first bridge, and your should be able to see it. Don't pay a taxis, just carry your luggage and walk less than five minutes.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

Buy the City Pass and enjoy the canal. A,so, go to the local major supermarket and buy your prefer beer for 1£ and the water for .50£ or your favorite wine or fruit at very affordable prices. Keep in mind that you have a fridge and can keep your water or fresh fruit in there. If you need to escape the noise of so many tourist, walk directly across the hotel and you will find a beautiful park to relax and or enjoy fresh water, fruit, glass of wine, etc... Get your stuff from the market near the public gondolas ( where you buy the city pass go to station 3 and the market is there ). Enjoy

Excellent location

The location is literally across from the train station, do not take a taxis - just walk less than 5 min. You can see the hotel from the train station. My husband and I came to venice 7/16/2014 and ended up staying three days here at the Gardena Hotel. We decided to stay here because the price was fair for such an expensive city. Although the hotel could use some TLC, for the time we spent in the room, it was the best decision. We decided to use the savings of a fancy hotel discovering Venice. The breakfast is really not the best, but is "free". The room was clean and so was the bathroom. The location is quite and walking distance from just about everything. We were very happy with the location. Also, the air conditioner is in poor working condition. Most of the time you won't even feel is on. You will need to open the window to get some air. As for transposition, just buy the City Pass and take the city Gondolas and enjoy the island at a very affordable price. Also, if you need a break from the hundreds of tourist, stop at the St. Elena island. It's so beautiful and peaceful. Take a towel and sit and enjoy the fresh lawn, park, and enjoy the beautiful views. One more thing, Venice is NOT for families with children who need strollers. You will have such a difficult time maneuvering the strollers. Keep in mind that Venice has hundreds of steps and you go up and down the bridges so often that you will wish you never came. Leave the children at home or bring a nanny to stay at the room with the children.

Bait and Switched!

After choosing the Gardena hotel because of its location, charm, and the reviews I had read, and after walking over 2 bridges carrying suitcases packed for a three-week cruise, we arrived at the hotel only to find they didn't have our room. Even though I had my reservation sheet, they said they didn't have a reservation and sent us to their sister hotel which was 2 more bridges away (one being 100 steps, again with suitcases). They kept saying we were going to a 4-star instead of a 3-star but I had chosen them for specific reasons! The one they sent us to (Principe) was nice, in a good location, great breakfast included, warm room (which was good). But to start the vacation that way, with no help to get us to the other hotel after a night of flying was most difficult and frustrating. The ratings given in this review are for the Principe. I would not book with Gardena again.

Hotel Gardena Venice

We spent a day in Venice waiting to board a cruise ship, the hotel was close to all tourist attractions. What I thought was missing was the hospitality, we were Ignored at the hotel by rude reception staff. Our last trip was in Feb this year to Phuket and stayed at the Millenium hotel Patong, that was a wonderful experience, they pais particular attention to detail. We seem to have had to put up with an array of poor service in hotels.

Perfect location

Within short walking distance of the bus station and situated just off the Grand Canal down a quiet backwater. Lovely reasonably priced restaurants just a few 100 yards away. The hotel reception and lounge was smart and elegant and the reception staff very helpful. Breakfast was a really good continental with a lot of choice and piping hot coffee and the waitress was lovely and friendly. We had a few problems with mosquitos and the hotel even offered us a spray to kill them off.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Although the view of the Grand Canal is nice when you are having a meal, the restaurants are pricey. If you want a reasonably priced meal, walk a couple of hundred yards down the side streets, the restaurants are better value for money.

Decent hotel in a good arrival/departure spot

Very nice hotel entrance, on the canal, close to the entrance to Venice and friendly, helpful staff member on hand straight away. Well decorated as you walk in. We were early for check in and given the option to use the 'garden room', the newest built and quite cosy room on the ground floor. We took as were keen to settle in but hard to tell what it was like in comparison to the other rooms. Room was very clean and modern, however felt more like an English B&B room. Was cosy, with little space to move around the bed/put the luggage down. Location was fine for Feb when no one uses the garden for breakfast yet but can imagine it would be noisy when rest of the hotel do use the garden space. Lacked natural light with a very small window that had privacy windows. But otherwise comfortable. Breakfast was a good spread and service very efficient and helpful. Only thing to be improved was a bit more fresh produce would have been nice.
