Excellent location, excellent price

The Hotel was in an excellent location (though a little difficult to find the first time), an easy walk to the Rialto Bridge one way and St. Mark's Square the other way. The area was packed with souvenir shops, inexpensive food shops and restaurants. The staff was very polite and helpful. The room was small, but plenty of room for our needs, i.e. a place to sleep. The hotel was clean. We did have to share a bathroom, but the bathroom was clean and, while we were there, we didn't have to wait.

Quaint and HOT

Overall the hotel was great, however they advertised air conditioning and it did NOT have it! Just a rotating fan that did little to cool off the Venice heat! Had I known, I would have booked a different hotel. However, the service was good, friendly, and the location (about a minute's walk away from San Marco Square) was unbeatable for the price. I'd recommend this hotel to others, warning them to hope for a freak snow storm in August!

Alilaguna is a wonderful trip to the airport, only 13 eruos from San Marco, and a beautiful morning boat ride to get a totally different view of Venice!

Below Standard

We were just visiting Venice for the first time and stayed two days, price and the hotel location was good but the rooms leave a lot to be desired. It feels like entering an Italian Ghetto. There are no screens on the windows, so the Mosquitoes kept disturbing our rest. The radiator heaters, which are centrally controlled, were adjusted way to high and the cranky reception manager could not do anything about it. We asked for Twin set up but they would not provide separate bedding, and the beds are to short. The locks are ancient and the room doors feel like unsafe trailer junk. Your breakfast is disturbed by the laud clanging of the dishes. The shower valves do not meet code ! Never again !

Very good value for money, took

Very good value for money, took their highest class room which was newly renovated and good. But it was on fourth floor and no lift. Some problems to find the hotel since the entrance is from a small lane not easy to locate. And street numbers seems like a happiness. Breakfast is just the small continental, means bread and butter.

Insect bites ruined our stay

Shared bathroom, small room, cheap beds, and modest breakfast as good as expected for price. The sink in the room was nice, and the staff made the beds daily, but the insect bites--whether from bedbugs, fleas, or mosquitos, not sure--were unacceptably miserable. Also, be forewarned that all the churches ring their bells hourly, even past midnight!

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

You WILL get lost in Venice: numbers are useless, and street names change by the block. Internet maps don't help, as this albergo was actually behind Campo San Zulian, past a tunnel and not actually on Calle Larga San Marco. Don't be afraid to ask for directions...again and again. Although everything is really close, take your time, as you will take a lot of time to figure out how to get anywhere! And this city is impossible for wheelchairs, so be warned.

Very nice hotel very near San Marco sq

The staff was very friendly and willing to help us out with maps and directions. The location of the hotel is about 2 min walk from the Rialto bridge stop and a 1 min walk to the san Marco square. We had a room with private bathroom and the facility was awesome. The room was a little small, but on the main Venice island, everything is so crammed, this was nothing to complain about.

Hotel is perfectly located, just

Hotel is perfectly located, just beside San Marco square. Other than that, it is very basic, breakfast is extremely basic, no A/C, no elevator, shared bathroom (although there are rooms with own bathrooms).
