Secluded Neo-Gothic Venice hotel in Santa Maria Formosa near St. Mark’s
Located on a canal in Venice's Santa Maria Formosa area and less than a block from the neighborhood's stunning Renaissance church, the Casa Santa Maria Formosa Hotel Venice is in a secluded corner of the city but just a short walk from St. Mark's Square, the Rialto Bridge and many of Venice's other popular attractions. This Neo-Gothic gem was built in the early 18th century and was restored to its romantic Venetian style, with modern amenities. - The classic rooms accurately recreate the old sophistication and style of 1700 Venice. - The new rooms, inaugurated recently, March 2009, respecting the Venetian modern style, are bright, lightful, with parquet pavements, Venetian typical marmorino, wooden beam ceilings, and a marvellous view on the canals around the palace. The colours and ambient of these rooms respects the warm fullness and cosiness typical of our hotel. Being situated on the palaces second floor, (unfortunately, we do not have an elevator), these room are offering a breathless amazing view over the canals.All the rooms are fitted and equipped with a minibar, air conditioning, telephone with a direct line and a safety deposit box. - This hotel is located in the heart of Venice, just a stroll from St. Mark's Square and Rialto Bridge, but has a calm, secluded position despite the large number of tourists. With just a few minutes walk you can reach the main landings to avail of frequent public transport which takes you all over the city, as well as the other islands of the lagoon (Torcello, Burano, Murano, Chioggia, Lido, etc.). Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the location of this hotel in Venice, is one of the liveliest and characteristic areas of the city. The Renaissance style Santa Maria Formosa church, with its baroque bell tower, gets its name from the appearance of The Blessed Virgin in the form of a "formosa" or shapely, beautiful woman. The same area hosts the prestigious Querini Stampalia Foundation, with its rich and much-used public library and a considerable gallery of three-hundred paintings by artists from Veneto, including G. Bella, Palma il Giovane, Palma il Vecchio, G. Bellini, P. Longhi.

Good service at Reception and
Good service at Reception and friendly staff. The room was small but clean and quiet. Air conditioning very welcome while the temperature was in the mid 30's each day. The breakfast was basic. It would be good to have the fresh fruit and wholemeal rolls. Otherwise a pleasant stay.

Good central location, newly refurbished
The hotel is perfectly located between Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square. Only 10 minutes to either. Front door is right on a canal. We haven't stayed at other hotels in Venice, so it is hard to compare room size. But we did find our room to be spacious, clean, newly refurbished. We got the only interior room without a view of the canal. The benefit is that it was very quiet. Our room actually had no room number as the others did. It was just marked "privato". So if you want quiet, that is the room to request. Breakfast was standard lunch meat, cheese, pastries, bread yogurt and granola. Staff was helpful and instructive when needed.

Great Value and Location
This is an ideally placed small hotel with an annex about four doors down from main reception. It is located on the edge of the large Santa Maria Formosa square, immediately alongside a canal and 5mins walk from Rialto and st Mark's. Rooms are good sized with excellent bathrooms - everything is kept execptionally clean. Small breakfast room serving good continental type buffet breakfasts. Staff very helpful and friendly. Steep stairs and no views are only slight downpoints. Plenty of nearby bars and restaurants but very quiet location.

Venice Carnevale 2011
Carnevale 2011 was amazing! Casa Santa Maria Formosa was the perfect hotel located between Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square and Ponte di Rialto (Rialto Bridge). Even though we were located around the corner from a very busy Santa Maria Formosa Square it was quiet and relaxing. Location was perfect for shopping with mid to high end shops everywhere

Venice is very expensive! Be prepared to spend 70-80 euro for lunch or dinner. (glass of wine or beer will cost 6-7 euro)

Great Location!
This was a great location for everything you want to do in Venice. The hotel staff was incredible helpful and friendly with all your needs. Rooms are a bit dark and there is no coffee/tea in the room. Would definitely stay again.

Great take-out pizzeria right on the corner over the bridge to the left and a nice trattoria across the bridge to the right from the hotel!

You don`t really need to buy a map as everything is within easy walking distance.My wife and i just walked around and you come across lots of hidden gems.

Great Venice Hotel
We spent three nights at the Santa Maria Formosa and found it to be a great place. Nice location , with views of a canal and easy walks to the San Marco and Rialto bridge . The 13th century building has character but the rooms are fairly modern. A nice breakfast was served every morning . We found the staff very helpful.
