Sant' Elena

Great place, if only staff/reception could double-check if restaurant was fully booked (when in fact it wasn't)

Great Place to Stay

The rooms were great, clean, well appointed. THe location was away from the noise with a garden to sit and relax in. Most of the staff was very helpful They could use a concierge to provide visiter information and assistance. Breakfast was very nice THe price was very good, Would definitely stay here again.

pretty much an oasis

Being in Venice at the tail end of August is often marked by wading through hordes of tourists. Hotel Sant'Alena, a short vaporetto ride away from the center of Venice, proved a lovely respite from the hustle of San Marco and its environs. Staff were great, providing us with converters, excellent restaurant recommendations, cold beers, and so on at a moment's notice. The main sections of the Biennale and Arsenal were 15 minutes' walk away. Highly recommended!

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Ask at the desk, as we did, for the address of a terrific fish restaurant named 'la franzia'...on the expensive side, but worth it, and really romantic...there's also an amazing, authentic pizza joint just around the corner from this fish place...starts with a 't'...sorry i don't remember the actual name...but truly incredible stuff, and cheap!

Modern hotel in Old world Venice

The hotel rooms were very clean, modern and well appointed. The location was a little far from the tourist attractions in Venice which could be a good thing is you are trying to relax. The location is great for those attending the Venice Biennale but it might be a little far from the action of San Marco. Open restaurants also seem the be scarse around the hotel in the evening.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

Its about a 20 - 30 min walk from the hotel to Piazza de San Marco. About 15 min to restaurant open in the evening.

Very comfortable place in very expensive town

Generally, hotel rooms in Venice are small, expensive, in old buildings and not "good value" by US standards. But the Sant Elena (while still not cheap) is a good value when compared to its local competitors. Fairly recently renovated, the rooms are very comfortable with modern facilities. The staff is friendly and efficient. It's NOT on the Grand Canal or St. Marks square, but it's only a couple of stops away on the vaparetto... a 20-30 minute stroll if you want to hoof it. And room prices are downright "thrifty" compared to all the other 4 star hotels on the island.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Buy the multi-day pass for the vaparetto (water "bus") from Vence-unica if you're in town for 3 or more days (2 or more if you're under 29). It's THE way to get around in Venice.

enjoyable golden wedding annerversary vacation

We enjoyed our stay as this hotel is clean & quiet, located in a predominantly residential area & very close to the St Elena vaporetta stop (No steps!). There is a grass & tree area at the waterside nearby, ideal for shade & relaxing after the crowds of venice. Buy a vaporetta pass which enables you to hop on & off. There are 6 vaporetta lines that stop at St Elena so you don't have to wait long. It takes about 10 mins by vaporetta to the St Marks area. There are 3 cafe's/trattorias nearby but you will need to walk or go by vaporetta to get a larger choice. The buffet style breakfast is well stocked but a message to the catering manager: The 2 slice toasting machine is very slow & causes a hold up or people aborting having toast at breakfast, please buy a new faster & larger capacity machine.
