- Among the 3 star hotels in Venice, Best Western Hotel Olimpia offers a considerable advantage: it is located in Piazzale Roma - the only area in the city accessible by car - just steps from the vaporetto stop which sails the charming Canal Grande to reach San Marco. From the hotel it is easy to reach the cruise ship terminal and Santa Lucia train station; if you travel by plane, our hotel has a convenient landing for water taxis from Venice's Marco Polo airport. In a sheltered area in the Santa Croce neighborhood, in the peace of a silent fondamenta, Hotel Olimpia is a few minutes on foot from Basilica dei Frari - one of Venice's main churches - and Scuola di San Rocco, theater of Tintoretto's extraordinary works.

Cruise stopover
My wife and I stayed at the Olympia for 1 night after our cruise. The location was perfect. We had no problem finding it. We arrived early so our room was not ready. We left our luggage with the staff and they took it to our room while we were out sight seeing. The staff was friendly, helpful and polite and spoke English. Breakfast was very nice and had a good variety of warm and cold choices. Our room was in the annex. The weather was cold with some snow and our room was very warm and comfortable. It was small but updated very nicely even had a towel warmer. The room was very small but cozy. We would stay at Olympia again although probably not in the annex as there were some stairs in kind of a dark hall. All in all we were very happy we chose the Olympia and really enjoyed our stay.

Convenient and pretty
We stayed in the Olimpia after our cruise, and it was really quick and easy to get there. A quick ride on the People Mover (1 Euro) brought us right to the plaza that led to the Olimpia. One short bridge and half a block later, and we were there. The rooms were surprisingly large, very clean and very cute. Crossing a couple more bridges led to another popular dining and shopping area. Even though we were so close to a plaza, the hotel was quiet at night and served a great breakfast. The taxis/buses to the airport were in the same plaza, and so it was easy to depart as well.

Small Rooms, Bad Value
We booked a walk up room, which is situated in the building next door, not in the actual hotel. The hallway leading to the room had a strong fish odor, luckily the smell was not present in the room. The room itself was rather dark, it did not have views of the courtyard displayed in the pictures. The bed was terrible, hard as a rock. There was mold on the ceilings. As a whole the room was in need os heavy renovations and was a terrible value for the money. I would avoid booking the side building at all costs. Its a terrible misportrayl that they try to consider this apart of the hotel proper. The staff was great, very friendly and helpful. They helped us book a taxi to Morano and gave us the lay of the land. The continental breakfast was also solid. The location was close to the train station, perfectly situated for our one night stay and quick departure out. With that said, it was a 45 minute walk to St Marks Square. Worked in our situation, but could be less then ideal for others that want to be close to the main venice sights.

Lovely location, great decor
Located right off Piazale Roma-the transportation hub of the city. No elevator, but the room was beautiful although small. Lovely Venetian glass chandelier, upholstered walls with brocade, padded brocade headboard, lovely drapes hand-painted furniture and even the doors had floral designs. One drawback, the toilet was installed too close to the sink so that part of it was actually under the sink making the toilet very hard to use. Nice breakfast room with an adequate breakfast and a lovely woman attending the guests. No other restaurant on site. Good air conditioning in the rooms. Wi Fi too weak to reach the rooms, but a computer available int he lobby.

Excellent location for cruisers
The hotel is easily visible from Piazzale Roma, so it's easy to find for travelers arriving by train or by bus from the airport. Very warm welcome; every single staff member was pleasant and helpful. We had a standard room which was quite small but very clean; it overlooked the charming garden, and it had a decent-sized bathroom with a real tub. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, served in a charming breakfast room with Murano chandeliers. Next time I'll opt for a superior room.

Location. Location.
Two night stay pre-cruise. High cost for a quite small room was offset by a very friendly and helpful staff, scrumptious continental breakfasts, and location just steps from all modes of transportation. No need to drag luggage all over creation (just one small bridge). Possibly the world's smallest elevator made us smile. (Luggage was brought up stairs by bellman.) Access to the computer and printer in the lobby sitting area was very convenient and helpful. Don't miss the private garden for a few minutes of relaxation.

Great option if you are planing to get in a Cruise
We just spend one night at this hotel and it was perfectly located close to the Cruise station, walking distance. If you are going in a cruise this is a great option, if you want to be in Venice, then it is NOT.
