Luxury and refined taste, discreet, qualified service distinguish this elegant 3 stars hotel which was recently described by one of the most famous Italian tourism guidebook as 'a real treasure trove of comfort and style'. The car parking in Piazzale Roma and the cruise passengers terminal and in the meantime very closed to the best known sightseeing in Venice, the Hotel 'Antica casa Carettoni' offers its guests all the comforts and service they could desire, in a very charming and relaxing atmosphere. The hotel offers its guests a wide choice of quiet bedrooms, none of which are the same, all furnished in style, with care and endowed with every comfort. Hotel "Antica casa Carettoni" provides the service and luxuries of the large hotel with the advantages of small scale management and the staff gives professional service with a personal touch. Wood pieces and fine mosaics characterize the elegant room where the fortunate guests can enjoy a rich breakfast buffet and the sincere cordiality of the staff every morning.Genuine old-style hospitality combined with modern hotel facilities: the perfect ingredients for a peacefull, relaxed stay in Venice. The hotel offers doctor on call, lobby, non-smoking rooms, reception, safe deposit box, secretarial services, tour desk and drink dispenser self services. Breakfast- included.

Outstanding Value

Excellent location, we didn't have to carry our bags very far from the Piazzale Roma. Only took about 15 minutes to walk to Piazza San Marco. The room was large and very comfortable, bathroom was smallish which is typical of Europe but very clean with all amenities. The staff we met where very helpful and spoke great english and made good suggestions of things to do and places to go. I just couldn't be happier and will stay here when I come back to Venice for a longer stay.

small, simple, clean room

hotel is a few hundred feet from the train station, which made getting there easy. nice walk to just about anywhere you'd want to go - venice is small enough that you can walk anywhere and everywhere. staff was nice, multilingual and welcoming. room was tiny, but functional, and most importantly, clean. windows opened out to the main street, which could get a but noisy, but nothing that you can't sleep through.

disappointed

The pictures of this hotel looked very homely and quaint, so I booked for two nights. I was disappointed from the first few minutes there. I can understand that space is limited in Venice and elevators are a luxury BUT, we were traveling with about 60 - 70 lb. trunks of luggage each and the first thing we see is a flight of stairs. It would have been nice to have a bell hop assist us up those stairs, but there isn't one. There was only one girl at the reception desk. So we had to haul our luggage up not one, but THREE flights of stairs to get to our room, and some people had rooms above us! Oh, and our room! Tiny! We didn't even have room for both of us to open our luggage, we had to take turns. Also, the hotel website says its a short walk to St. Mark's square, but not really. It's a fair walk for a young person, but if you are old, I'd say take the water taxi even though it'll take a while. It was however, very close to the train station as advertised. The biggest kicker though was their breakfast. It's only from 8 to 930, and I got there around 840, and most all the food was gone and there was no attempt to replenish any of it. Empty platters of who knows what was on there were on the bar area. I even had to clear my own table because they were all dirty and no one was cleaning up. Pretty much the only thing left to eat was a couple pastries and corn flakes. Compared to all the other included breakfasts we have had on our trip so far, this was the worst breakfast by far! I didn't even bother to wake up early the next morning for it. The cherry on top was that my husband threw his back out getting the luggage down the stairs and we still had to take trains to our next stop. Wouldn't come back to this hotel if you paid me.

Convenient hq for exploring Venice

The staff at this hotel was extremely friendly and helpful, breakfast was good, hotel was clean. Room was as advertised. Keep in mind that rooms can be noisy due to central location, also smelled of cigarettes. Can't beat location if you are arriving by train.

Anniversary trip

Hotel is in a great location, Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room with the "French Bed" was very small for two people but nice and clean. The stairway is small but our overall experience was great.

Great Staff

This hotel is situated on a very touristy street, near the train station- full of energy, but it's still quiet in your room at night. The building itself is rather charming, with lovely mosaics on the floors, well-placed artwork, and an antique vibe that truly envelops you. The high point though is the great staff, especially the lady who tends to work there morning to evening. She is warm, friendly, excited, and speaks great English. Breakfast is served with a smile, and after traveling nearly 3 weeks in Europe, it was far and away the best breakfast I ever had. A number of sweet confections available, as well as croissants (with a side of nutella!), slices of meat and cheese, hard-boiled egg, and a few other items. And for the price, this place is truly a winner!

Sorry folks, but dining well in Venice isn't likely to happen. Or, it will take you a lot of time to find and then cost an arm and a leg.

NOT a pleasant surprise--bunk bed couch?

The GOOD:The best part of this hotel is its location near the train station. My boyfriend and I arrived on a train at 11:30pm, and it was a relief being able to walk just down the street from the station to our place (especially considering I wayyy overpacked.) If you don't stay as close, you may get stuck taking a water taxi to where you need to get, and I can only imagine how expensive that could be... we were definitely traveling on a budget. The 24 hour and multi-lingual reception was also nice. The BAD:I booked this hotel [...], and like I said, my boyfriend and I were on a budget, so I purchased the cheapest room possible for two. DON'T BE FOOLED by the bedroom picture. AND, make sure to notice if you're booking the "bunk bed room." I thought I purchased a regular room, especially considering this was the most expensive place we were staying on our entire trip. The interior of the hotel was beautiful, but our "bunk-bed" room on the second floor (without an elevator) was DISAPPOINTING to say the least. The room is just a hallway with a bunk-bed couch!!! Bunk-bed couch?! Yeah, that's right. And for $110 US dollars a night?? How that got a 3 star rating really puzzles me... ALSO, the shared bathroom is on the first floor. It was clean, but the shower is tiny. All I can say is, I know that Venice is expensive, and if you know what to expect if/when purchasing the bunk bed room, then you'll be happy staying here considering how close it is to the transportation areas.
