I've stayed at 4 hotels in Italy and this was by far my favorite. First, my husband and I adored Sorrento. Standing from our balcony, Mt. Vesuvius was in front of us, the cliffs ocerlooking the ocean to the left, and a volcanic rift on the right
that houses an ancient mill. All around are olive and citrus groves. What a fantastic area. Sorrento is a bustling town with a lot of shops and great restaurants, the people are friendly, and there is plenty to do. It was lovely to eat almost all my meals outdoors. It was a riot to sit in town and watch the activity: buses shuttling singing people, people from all over the world interacting, etc. I will definitely return some day.
Hotel Plaza is in town, a 5 minute walk from the bus stop/Circumvesuviana train line. It is perfectly situated in town so that you can walk everywhere. The staff were attentive and friendly, the hotel itself is beautiful, and the rooms were nicely decorated and an average size (for a European hotel). The soundproofing was exceptional, since it was incredibly loud outside but I heard nothing with the balcony door closed. Bathroom was clean, though I suggest if you are a bigger person you upgrade to a room with a bathtub shower, since the stand-alone shower is quite compact and not made for someone large.
There is a rooftop terrace that's lovely, with seating to enjoy the view, an small infinity pool, and a bar. We also enjoyed the bar downstairs, which had fantastic drinks that were accompanied by local olives (the best I have ever had!) and other snacks. They also have a small menu when you need a quick bite. The restaurant only serves breakfast, included with your stay. The food was great and the cappuccino was outstanding.
If you want to take trips to Pompeii or Naples, they are easily accessible through a cheap train ticket and a few minute walk. There are scooters and cars for rent, and buses that take you down the Amalfi Coast. There are hiking trails for outdoor lovers.
Overall, I'd highly recommend visiting this hotel. My spouse and I visited several areas in Italy and enjoyed this trip the most.

If you are up for a romantic, gourmet meal and you are an adventurous eater, try Il Buca. It's tucked away from the crowds and well worth the search (and the cost). Amazing food!
