Disappointing

Location was good, and staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was clean, but linens, although clean, smelled musty and bathroom was clean but in some disrepair--leaky toilet, missing shelf above sink. 4 floors, but elevator only went to 3rd floor. Although advertised as a 3-star, we thought it was closer to a 2-star. Breakfast buffet was weak. Not an awful experience, but somewhat disappointing.

not expexted for price paid

Here is my experience with my wife at Zara Hotel in Rome for 10 nights. The overall experience was not pleasant and not as expected. My previous experiences were in general excellent. That was not the case with Zara Hotel. When we arrived the first night, they gave us a room where everything was not working. The fixtures were broken, the hair dryer not working, the shower not working, no hot water, etc. We complained and they told us that they will transfer us the following day. The first night after a long trip from LA was horrible. The following day they transferred us to another room , better in comparaison. The refrigerator and TV were not working. After a couple of days, they fixed the refrigerator but the TV was only working for a couple of channels and the set was a very old model. The hot water was not working daily and the street in front was in reparation and the hotel said that was responsible. There The breakfast was poor. There was no WI FI and when they installed it, it waqs not functional daily I wanted to leave after the first night, but saw in my reservation that it was ot refunded for the 10 nights. Exploring other hotels in the neighbourhood , three star hotels, were by far more better and more luxurious and cheaper than what we paid for. In fact, four star hotels were charging less than 120-130 euros per night around the corner. Overall, we suffered the 10 nights and canceled another reservation in fear with a similar experience. On our own, we moved to a 4 star hotel in a premium location with a suite and luxury services for 130 euros a night. What a difference!!!!!! I wanted to know if I have a reservation for several nights and dont like it on the first night, can I cancel the reservation or call you to work it out? Thanks for your reply Dr Benjamin Bonavida

Check if a/c is actually being used

They had shut the air conditioning off for the season in Sept. (not advertised) and the first 3 nights were unusually warm which means we had to leave the windows open just above Rome traffic. Had to prop the door open to almost no wind so it took until about 2 am to be cool enough to sleep. Got used to the traffic noise. I would not advise using them if you find there is no a/c working (they had removed controls). Excellent breakfasts, but next visit we use someone different

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Check out the statue of the Vestal Virgin in the Veil at the Barberini Palace museum just down the same street. Wonderful!

Rundown Roma

Good location/ price makes it an acceptable option if you plant to be out of the room all day. Shower curtains are moldy and dingy. Very cramped room. AC in and out. Staff seemed aloof and disinterested. And no visitors in my room - felt like a half-way house!

OK but not great

One thing that I specifically wanted was Internet and in the details of the hotel mentions that it had internet. NOPE! Frustrating spending 4 days there with NO internet to check email and connect with people. The room was small but quite. It was fairly clean but the floor was dirty. The hotel staff were helpful to some extent when asked but only offered greetings when specifically talked to. The location isn't bad as it was half way between the train station and some of the major sites.

Pleasant, quiet, Great Staff

Even though it wasn't perfect (one light didn't work, the second night a wake-up call didn't go through), I would definitely stay here again. The staff were helpful but not overly present. The breakfast was decent. The room was clean and the location was great. For the price, I thought it was a good deal.

Vacation

The room was very small. The air conditioner did not work properly and it was very hot. The location was great. The rooms did not seem very clean. If you are looking for a place to stay with a great location this would be it but it needs to imporve in service and amenities.
