Triple room

I stayed here for 3 days, once i got there, i was worried about the graffiti on the walls of almost every building, it scared me. Then i learned that this was a college town. I did not feel threatened, we got used to the graffiti. It is kind of far from the touristic areas, the hotel staff did everything to accommodate us. The hotel is OK, the breakfast is typical, basic, does the job. There are trams and buses, but they are unreliable. Be prepared to pay for taxi. Usually about 13 euros per trip. You get what you pay for. I would stay here again, if i am on the budget, but i would stay near the touristic zone, if i can afford it. There are lots of restaurants within 10 minutes walking distance.

2 NITES IN ROME

The staff were so friendly and helpful and the appearance of the entry, lobby & courtyard was beautiful. However, the floor in our room was dirty, and an odd arrangement. But the rest of it was clean. Was not happy with the location, did not look secure, however, the gates were locked at night. The staff were great and bent over backwards to make our stay comfortable.

Hidden Gem in San Lorenzo

Possibly the best cappuccinos we've had for breakfast while in Rome. The breakfast spread is great and the staff is very knowledgeable about the area. It feels like a lower east manhattan type of area in Rome. The location may not put you at ease but you'll find some amazing value in the hotel and food options in the area.

Excellent value traditional hotel

This is a traditional Italian hotel with spotlessly clean, comfortable en suite rooms which serves a very good breakfast. It does not have all the amenities of some modern hotels but does have a lovely garden terrace and a small bar area. The hotel is a 30 min (approx.) tram or train ride from the centre of Rome but San Lorenzo is an interesting place with lots of good local eating places. The hotel is excellent value for money. We had never expected to get somewhere this good at this price in a capital city.

There are lots of good, local, reasonably priced eating places but for a treat try SAID, the "chocolate" restaurant.

A gem of a hotel!

We walked to this hotel from the railway station and the area isn't that pretty (although seemed perfectly safe) - but then spotted this gem of a building hidden away! It's a lovely old villa - with pretty tubs of flowers etc outside and limited parking at the front. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly - they were really lovely. Breakfast was excellent. Our room looked onto a pretty courtyard and was quirky and original - so much nicer than standard chain hotel rooms. And it was quiet at night. Some nice restaurants within easy walking distance also (esp Pommidoro - amazing pasta with wild boar!) And good tram/bus routes which take you easily to all of the main sites (or you could walk). We would highly recommend this hotel to our friends.

We booked online for the Sistine Chapel - it costs you 4EURO more each to do so but when we saw the 2-3 hour queues to get to the entrance of the Vatican Museum we were sooo glad that we had!

Outstanding staff made our stay a pleasure

This is a small hotel about 1 mile from Termini Station. We stayed one night after a cruise before flying home. It is not convenient to Metro stops, but was a clean comfortable room to spend one night. It has fast WiFi and air conditioning in late October. The desk staff were so thorough in answering our questions inhow to take the bus or Metro and where to buy tickets on a Sunday. They highlighd maps for us and recommended a restaurhant with pizza for lunch and showed us how to get there. Breakfast included hot entrees as well as cereal, fruit, rolls cellent. They arranged for a taxi to the airport, $50 for up to 4 people and took us to

Beware of drivers posing as real cab drivers outside of Termini Station in Rome. They will try to rip you off. Know how far your hotel is and about what you should be charged by checking in tour guides etc.

Good value, friendly hotel

If you are looking for good value then look no further than the San Lorenzo. A quick tram ride from the Colosseum it is small but very well run. Manager Antonio could not have been more helpful as were the Reception staff. Continental breakfast was super and room was just off a courtyard and perfectly fine. We used tram to Colosseum every day then used hop on hop off bus for two days which was well worth it. Great restaurant up a back street opposite Colosseum 'Pizzeria Luzzi' - would recommend hotel and restaurant

Pros and Cons

The hotel -- a former residence-- was nice, but the walls are thin and the location is not for everyone. The benefit of the location is that the hotel is situated right on a tram line and less than mile walk to metro line A (or you can take the tram to the metro). It's also a short tram or cab ride from Termini, which has express train service to the main airport for $14 euro. So transportation wise, it's a decent location, but it is also off the beaten path and therefore some people, particularly non-city dwellers, may not feel comfortable in the neighborhood. It may appear a tad sketchy at night, with all the graffiti (see Google Street View), lower lighting and limited foot traffic (as compared to the city center), BUT I FOUND IT TO BE QUITE SAFE. It's basically situated in a mostly residential neighborhood, and is NOT a tourist-centered neighborhood, but there are some other hotels in the vicinity. Breakfast is complimentary, but there is no room service for lunch or dinner. One more thing... if you reserve a room, I would contact the hotel directly and get assurances that you are not placed in the room that sits OUTSIDE the hotel (I believe it's room 107). It's small, dank and the outside noises are loud. I believe it's the former gardeners shed/quarters or something.... not cool IMO. We were placed in this room our first night and my wife still has not forgiven me. :(
