Hotel Turner is located in the centre of Rome, at Porta Pia, a site of particular importance in Italy's history. Located 900 meters from Stazione Termini and from the airport shuttle Terminal, the hotel is near the most beautiful urban park in Rome, Villa Borghese, which is a 10-minute walking distance. A 15-minute walk is what it takes to get to Teatro della Dolce Vita on Via Veneto, which dates from the '60s and is still one of the more elegant and exclusive ones. Hotel Turner is housed in a building dating back to the late 19th century which has been carefully restored, and features classic-style, tastefully decorated rooms that recreate the elegant and sophisticated atmosphere of historic Roman houses. The property has just opened its new cocktail bar, operating from 6;00pm to 00;00. In summer the indoor cocktail bar will be operating in 6th floor terrace with the same operating times. Free! One child under 6 years stays free of charge when using existing beds. Antiques, marbles, stuccos and Damask fabrics are enhanced by the most modern comforts, making Hotel Turner one of the best hotels in Rome.

Ok ish

It´s very avarage. Nice from the distance but mediocre once you look closer. Many services they offer simply don´t work (as the jacuzzy and hydromassage cabins in the superior rooms) or the Internet. You will find broken lamps, stains all over the curtains, cracked wooden floors, etc.... It really, and I mean really needs a huge renovation to be a 4 star hotel and shine again. Hope they do because it could be such a lovely place.

The Grandeur of Rome on a Budget

My wife and I spent five nights at The Turner Hotel in balmy November. For the price, we did not expect a five-star hotel in central Rome, but, to our amazement, our experience did not fall far short of that. This large hotel has great character and Roman ambience: a palace of marble spaces in indigenous, classical, rococo style, perfectly in keeping with the theatrical grandeur and homogeneity which makes the city’s architecture unique. (If you are looking for somewhere bland and generic, this is not for you.) Our room, with giant-sized bed under a high, elaborately moulded plaster ceiling, was immaculately furnished in lacquered, ornate style, and overlooked the tree-lined Via Novamentura (opposite a government building and not far from the British Embassy) Flock wallpaper, matching double curtains, and double-glazing muted the welcome, and often entertaining, bustle of Rome below. The fridge, stocked with complimentary bottled water on our arrival, was a great asset. The television connected us with the local news and popular culture. True, the wi-fi could be temperamental and hot water took some time to reach this part of the building, but the en suite bathroom was spacious and we were prepared to wait! The room was cleaned, tidied and re-supplied discreetly in our absence. The central location could not be better: bus stop outside, and all Metre lines within moderate walking distance. The staff were very professional, helpful and polite, and, although fluent in English, did, I think, appreciate the effort of guests to venture a few words of Italian. Provided with a map and advice on getting about we soon found our way to the Vatican, St. Peter's, other basilicas, Coliseum and Forum. (Beware solo pickpockets and gangs of Artful Dodgers on the Metre. Beggars and peddlers can be a nuisance at tourist attractions, too.) The breakfast, as a modestly-priced extra, was well worth it and is to be recommended. Presided over with aplomb by Andrea, who prides himself on personal service and attention to detail, in a marble hall of gilt arches and mirrors, the buffet offered a superb choice of drinks, cereals, croissants, scrambled egg, bacon, sausages and other fare to set us up for the day. (For other meals, the hotel is just round the corner from a number of accessibly-priced ristorantes and trattorias, There is a small bar, lounge and roof-garden on the top floor where a cold beer, or glass of Chianti are served with a flourish.) We were very sad to say goodbye to Andrea, who had made our stay so special, and would like to thank all the other staff who, quietly and behind the scenes, made our stay so pleasant. When we checked out, there were no hidden extras and we departed by taxi, wafted off personally by the duty manager, with the fondest memories of our stay. On balance, this hotel is great value, any small shortcomings being more than compensated for by the ambience, service and location, which is why I give it, overall, five stars.

It is a good idea to book visits to such places as the Coliseum, the Vatican or Forum over the internet in advance. Although you pay a premium, you avoid queues and wasted time if your visit, like ours, was short and sweet.

Not close to anything

The hotel website is VERY misleading. First of all, it is about a 20 minute walk to any "close" Roman monument (Trevi fountain, Termini station, Bernini square). The hotel also promotes that it is about a 40 euro trip to the airport. However, it does not mention that it is about 40 euro to Ciampino airport (only used for travel on flights within Europe) and a trip to Fiumicino airport (for international travel to US) is capped at 48 euro within the city center. However, Hotel Turner is OUTSIDE of the city center, making it a much more expensive cab ride than what they allude to on their site. Another problem is that they are not close to any metro stop (it is at least a 25 minute walk) and the directions to get to Termini station are very confusing and unhelpful. It is a long walk when you are dragging luggage from the station to the hotel. They also promote a full breakfast, but fail to mention that if you want any protein for your morning (such as eggs or cured meats) it will be an extra 2,50 euro for each plate per day. I have stayed in many Italian hotels that boast a full breakfast (including others in Rome), and not once had this ever happened to me before. A full breakfast would include eggs, bacon, and a full selection of Italian cured meats. While the hotel itself was about average, the combined distance from anything you want to see and all of the misleading information on the website is enough to make me say I would never stay at this hotel again and would encourage others to do the same.

Sightseeing tip: Long walk from hotel

Take a double-decker touring bus around the city to make attraction visits much more accessible. The city is huge and exhausting, you'll be thankful for the lift to your next desired stop. You can hop on and off at every major attraction all day, there is an audio guide in most, and a bus hits every stop in 30 minute increments.

DO NOT STAY HERE

Horrible experience with this hotel!! The "8" person apartment we booked was "not available" for our family of 5... so they stuck us in two non-connecting standard rooms where my husband and I had to split the kids up so we could all get some sleep... nice family vacation being separated from each other... also the toilet broke the first night. Long story short... do not stay here... it is NOT good

Golden Hotel, Good spot, good location,

Stayed 4 nights for very competitive rate. Location very good and bus stop just outside the door. Room was a good size with nice if ornate decor. Could do with another one or two English speaking TV channels. Breakfast was vey good with large choice on offer. Some nice restaurants nearby and short hop to towm. Also quite near walk to Borgia palace and park.

VERY ITALIAN GREAT VALUE

We had a ver nice stay at this charming italian hotel it was clean and the staff were friendly. The basthrood was old but well appointed and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful, The local shop had all the guides you need. There was a local supermarket, market stalls and a nice clothes shop nearby, it would have been helpful if the travel agent had tod us when theses shops would not be open. Tube and bus travel was 6 euros for the day which is good and the restaurants were reasonable too. The Metro tube is a five min walk the bus just outside the hotel, perfect. Rome is fab a great short break but loads of walking.
