Ok place to stay for the money

The Pantheon Inn in Rome was overall an average stay for the money we paid for our room. The good things about the hotel-the staff are friendly and helpful-gave us directions to places, recommended great restaurants and helped arrange our taxi to the airport on departure, our room size was adequate for a family of 4 and was newly renovated so it was nice and kept clean, the bathroom was so spacious, free WIFI which worked well while we were there, free breakfast (see other comment about this below), and the location would be the best thing about this hotel. We pretty much walked to all the major sights we wanted to see which was so convenient and saved us money in transportation. The only place we took public transportation to was The Vatican City. So many great shops and restaurants nearby. The bad things about this hotel-it was very difficult to find this hotel-we circled around and walked by it about 4-5 times before we found it because the outside is unassuming...not your typical hotel entry. It's down an alley which during the day has lots of people walking by, but at night, it's a little quieter and scary. The have a tiny/old elevator so we lugged all of our luggages up long flights of stairs to the 2nd Floor. There is no gym or business office...although you do so much walking/climbing stairs in Rome that you don't really need a gym and my husband and son actually went running out in the city a few times during the week. They had a TV's in each room but everything was in Italian. It was satellite TV-it would have been nice if they at least had the BBC news in English that we could watch in the evenings when we returned to our room. Although the bathroom was spacious and newly renovated, it needed more towel bars, especially near the shower. The hot water comes and goes. We took many showers with ice, cold water. We got free breakfast but it wasn't that great, the best thing about it were the croissants but after the 5th day of eating it, that got old. They had fruit cups but it was basically fruit cocktail from a can, and salami/cheese that was unappetizing, lots of different sweets that were too early to have for breakfast and the coffee was just not good at all. We also travelled to Naples, Paris and London on this trip and compared to all the other hotels we stayed, this was the most expensive with the least impressive amenities provided. If the high price (which we used a "travel site" company to book this hotel so I'm thinking it's probably more expensive than what we paid) is due to it's location in Rome, then I suppose we got what we paid for because it truly was within walking distance to the great sites..the Pantheon, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, The Spanish Steps/Piazza di Spagna, The Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and public bus transportation stops were closely as well.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

If you're ok to drink their tap water, which we are from the US and we did not have any problems drinking their water there, ask for tap water in the restaurants. The first few days we were there, when we would ask for water, they immediately asked us if we wanted still or bubbly bottled water and we would pay 2-3 dollars for bottle...then we realized we have to specifically ask for "tap water" to get free water. And always ask for ice...otherwise, you won't get any.

Nice location but not 4 star

The location of this hotel is good because its situated near the Pantheon and several pleasant shopping and eating squares. However, it is clearly not a 4 star hotel and more likely a 3 star hotel. The rooms are reasonable but fairly basic and there is no lobby or guest services of any sort. We stayed at 4 star hotels at several places throughout Europe and the quality and atmosphere of this hotel was clearly lower than that of the other hotels.
