Wear a money belt! Carry only the bare essentials in your wallet. I had a money belt but left it with the bulk of my cash and passport in hotel safe. Went on a tour at the Vatican (definitely recommend the tour route; avoid the long lines) and while there pickpocket did his job and I spent most of the afternoon calling credit card companies. Had to get another driver's license. A hassle.

Good Value

This hotel is quite pretty and perfect for a weekend trip to Rome. However, location could be better but if you want to focus on the Vatican it is perfect. The rooms are small but clean and have AC. Compared to other hotels in Rome Hotel Orange is quite loud (depends on where your room is located). Unfortunately we didn't have any shelfs in our room (only hangers) and thus, couldn't unpack properly. Receptionists didn't have a clue about Rome and thus couldn't help us finding good restaurants or anything else. All in all a we had a pleasant stay and we couldn't ask for anything more for the money.

Great location good price

Had a GREAT TIME!!!Kudos to the great patient staff at the Orange Hotel. I am bad with names I am really sorry about that because the receptionist that was there when we arrived was MARVELOUS. Thank you Signorina, Sei stato grande e vorrei poter esprimere il mio ringraziamento nella tua lingua. Ho provato ma penso che avrei incasinato. Il mio partner desidera esprimere la sua gratitudine per la vostra pazienza. I hope I translated that well. We arrived at about noon and check it wasn't until 3pm but she made sure the room was clean and got us in at 1pm. Thank you. The cleaning staff was nice too again I wish I could tell them thanks. And the breakfast was good too. One this I would like to remind travelers is that they don't use air conditioners much so they tended to turn ours off when we were gone. Once we asked them not to they complied. But some friends even commented how good the air conditioner was in our hotel compared to theirs and they stayed at a 5 star hotel. The excursions with this site were great but I think most of them are. They really tend to please the tourist. The Hotel was such a great location. Really the bus line a block away, the metro three blocks away which we tried and wish we had done it since we got there. and a lot of nice mom and pop dining areas just outside the hotel. Really, I mean the cute little restaurants that have the tables outside while you see people pass by. They are all over but such a nice place and many to choice from around the hotel. It was also walking distance to the Vatican so of course it was in the center so be aware of the noise. Wear ear plugs which the hotel provided. So there. Love it [...]

When in Rome...

Fantastic. Highly recommended for travelers seeking a quaint neighborhood removed from tourist traps, a fully renovated hotel featuring trendy/hip design, and a 10 minute walk to ANYWHERE - Pantheon, Piazza Navonna, Spanish Steps, and Piazza del Popolo. Our stay at this hotel was exquisite - the private bathrooms are furnished with modern fittings, and the outdoor roof terrace for breakfast in the mornings hits the spot. Reception speaks perfect English, and called a cab for us when we needed it. Top stay for your $$.

Orange Hotel Rome

We booked Orange Hotel because it was close to The Vatican. We had planned to spend at least 2 days at The Vatican. We found the distance from The Vatican to our hotel excellent. It was about 6 blocks. It was also located close to electric buses, tour buses and day use sightseeing buses. The other areas we had planned to visit were just a short bus ride away. We found Rome to be a very picturesque city. Now for the bad parts. In comparison to the hotels we stayed in in Ireland, Orange Hotel was way overpriced. The Hilton next to the airport in Dublin was 119 Euros and Orange Hotel was 245 Euros. Secondly although we had a well stocked refrigerator in our room the items inside were not cold and we thought that might have been because all the plugs and lights in the room went off when you removed your room card from a plug by the door. For the same reason the air conditioning was off all day and had to really crank to cool off the room when we came back in the afternoons. We didn't have a tub in the room, only a shower and it would have been nice to soak in a tub after all the walking we did in Rome. We were unsuccessful getting tourist info from the desk clerk because other than one clerk none of the clerks spoke much english, they didn't even speak much italian because they were polish. They seemed to be very impatient when you asked questions they just pointed to the pamphlets near the desk. We had no advertizments for restaurants or tours in our room. My husband had an app on his phone for italian but that was of no use. The whole ambiance of the hotel was depressing and "creepy". The rooms were painted gray and the carpet was gray. There were small accents of orange. We had to leave our clothes in the suitcase because the closet only had 4 hangers. We couldn't get any others when we asked. The elevator was only large enough for 2 americans+ social distance. The hallways were poorly lit and the entries to the hotel were accessed by walking down a dark walkway. They did a great job cleaning the room but they left an unscreened window open to a walkway that went between two buildings. We asked that they not do that and they corrected that. Our overall opinion was that it was an unsafe hotel due to the fact that there were homeless people sleeping in nooks and bushes at the base of the hotel. There was a strong smell of urine near one of the entrances. Although we asked about the homeless people there was no effort made to remove them or to clean away the urine smell. For all the reasons mentioned above I would not recommend Orange Hotel. We almost moved to another hotel, The Cicerone, but decided that we would just stick it out since we had already paid 4 months in advance. We looked at The Cicerone and loved it. It was new and only 85 Euros per night. We gave Orange Hotel one star and I think that was generous. I don't have any understanding of how it was rated 4 stars!

When you eat in Rome try to be at the back of an open air cafe or inside off the street because you won't get the debris and noise from the street. You also won't be bombarded by the people selling flowers and umbrellas on the street. Never assume that if you ask for "fredo" or cold coffee or tea that it will have ice in it. You have to ask for ice. If you want to cool off in Rome eat lots of gelato because it is very cold and so delicious! We also recommend eating at a restaurant called Dante - Taberna De Gracchi on Via dei Gracchi not too far from The Vatican. Ask for a waiter named Johnny and drink wine from Calabria. Dante has a very relaxed atmosphere and dining starts after 8 and closing time is whenever you decide to leave or before 2 in the morning.

Very Helpful staff, good value for money

My son and I travelled to Rome to watch Italy V Wales in the Rugby 6 Nations. The hotel was a 2 mile flat walk to the stadium and yet handy to The Vatican and transport links to other historic sites. The worst part of the trip was the link from the airport to the hotel. We followed the tourist advice and took the Leonardo express to Termini Station and then the Metro. The walks from airport to station and station to metro seemed far longer than we had been led to believe they were. The express train was moving slower than the cars on the roads alongside. On arrival at the hotel I asked about an airport taxi or shuttle. They told me a taxi would be upwards of 40 Euros but that there was a Shuttle bus from Piazza Cavour (10 minute walk from the hotel) direct to the airport for 8 Euros.
